Amazon makes accessing a DB really just as its name states, Simple. I have been able to build out Databases in minutes and get them working in the cloud very quickly. There is a little bit of a learning curve with all of Amazon's products and it seems like their navigation changes quite frequently. Once you get comfortable enough with the product, SimpleDB gets better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering SimpleDB: SimpleDB is a great tool, but it does have some limitations once you get into more complex database designs. We were often hosting local servers with databases and having issues when it came time for backups and restoring things. I'm a project manager and my team ha used this for the last application we stood up. We already were utilizing AWS, so the choice to utilize Simple DB went through our ARB quickly as the recommended solution. What I've found most appealing from my standpoint is the reduced risk and maintenance for the solution. Without worrying about complex maintenanace, and simplified querying of the DB, the team is able to focus on more pertinent and demanding tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about SimpleDB? Based off of the feedback from the team, i've had no issues with Simple DB. It works as expected and the Database admins were able to get up to speed during the design phase of the project to be able to set up and maintain as needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. With AWS you can skip a lot of the configuration steps that you would have to do otherwise you would have to spend a lot more time getting everything together. It was beneficial to use because there is a good amount of documentation for aws although it is difficult to understand. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about SimpleDB? Its alot harder to use and setup than say Google's firebase. Also its kind of difficult to really get a good idea of estimated cost that you will be charged per month of use unless you really know certain things. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is SimpleDB solving and how is that benefiting you? we used aws simple db to be our backend database for a sql server that connected to our react application. was used to store information for a scheduling framework application. It worked great except for not including authentication for users. we had to kinda mesh together both cognito and aws's simple db for it to work in that regard.
