What do you like best about Simcenter Amesim?

A lot of components and libraries to address various physics and business.

A performant and adaptative solver which doesn't need user to understand solvers numerics to get results.

A powerfull and easy to use graph and plots feature to post process simulation results.

A team of experts developping and improving the tool regularly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simcenter Amesim?

Would love to have it cloud based with better collaboration features

Would love a better integration with requirement management tools (use Amesim to verify and validate requirements from Flow Engineering or Polarion for example)

Its time to improve the overall user interface and simplify workflows (4 modes to be merged / reimagined, dev of user components to be improved (see Modelon), libraries and components management to be reimagined, etc) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Chiel Verhoeven of Simcenter Amesim

What do you like best about Simcenter Amesim?

It is software that allows the development and integration and validates complex systems quickly and with a reasonable effort. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simcenter Amesim?

Some tool windows do not have basic functions such as: select all, rename, sort, delete all (example Study Manager window).

It should be possible to disable component groups in the sketch window in order to test variants. Right now the solution is to either delete or connect the ports of the components or component groups in order to be able to advance to simulation.

There is no block that in a simple way you implement functionality using C, C++, python code

In some cases, the help is poor (exampleESCSDCDCU13, section Command signal saturation). In this section, I expect to see at least the parameter you have in the component (parameter view). Missed 90% related to saturation Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Chiel Verhoeven of Simcenter Amesim

Hi Juan, thank you for leaving this review and that you appreciate the efficiency of the software when building complex systems and understanding their dynamics. The feedback you give sounds very useful, have you been in contact with our support engineers already? I saw in the documentation there is a default value described for the component you mention, but if more clarification is needed it's best to directly contact our support engineers. Also for the python integration we have some options like the python editor app or the component SCRCALL01, but I'm not sure if you already have experience with that. I can also recommend our community website, our product managers are active there as well and it offers many knowledge-base articles like the one attached on integrating Python scripts in the sketch :)

"The versatility of its use for the simulation of various systems."
3.5/5
What do you like best about Simcenter Amesim?

I use Amesim regularly, about twice a week. I mainly use it to carry out 1D physical models of engines and other naval systems. Generally speaking, it is easy to use thanks to the help and example models that are super useful. Additionally, the control library streamlines and facilitates integration.

On the other hand, whenever I've had any issues, user support has been great, fast, and correct.

Moreover, being able to export physical models in .fmu format greatly facilitates implementation in other software tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simcenter Amesim?

The only problem I have observed is the number of errors in the hydraulic library. The main ones are: The inability to correctly simulate zero flow sections. The lack of robustness in thermohydraulic models. The mass balance is also problematic in the T. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Chiel Verhoeven of Simcenter Amesim

Hi Manuel, thanks a lot for your review and good to read you like the ease of use and the included libraries! As you experienced our support engineers are happy to help if needed, and if you would like to learn more about the thermohydraulic capabilities in Simcenter Flomaster and the connection with Simcenter Amesim don't hesitate to reach out to your local Siemens contactperson :)

"A very powerful user-friendly software"
4/5
What do you like best about Simcenter Amesim?

I have been using Amesim for four years now and I use it practically every day. What I really like about Amesim is the possibility of modelling different types of systems with great physical details. In terms of complexity, it is obvious that it requires time to get used to it, but when you learn the basics you realise it is quite user-friendly and the implementation of different real use cases is not that complex. It has a wide variety of libraries where you surely can find the component that you are looking for. On top of that, in case of any doubts, you can access the component help in order to look at the specific formulae it is using. If there are no components that represent the behaviour you are looking for, you may program it by yourself using C language.

In terms of automation, it is really simple to extract different variables from a simulation using python, making it way easier than other softwares.

In case you want to connect Amesim with other third-party software, the integration is quite easy.

Finally, the customer support is fantastic and I really do not have anything negative to say about it. They are always quick giving support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simcenter Amesim?

I would suggest to improve certain libraries that perhaps could have additional components or additional solving methods for the equations. But in general, it is not a great problem. These problems appear when you have a great amount of experience and you want to take the models to another level. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Chiel Verhoeven of Simcenter Amesim

Hey Javier, I'm delighted to hear that you've been using Simcenter Amesim for several years now and that it has been such a valuable tool for your daily work. It's great to know that you find the software user-friendly and that the wide variety of libraries is supporting your modeling needs. I'm also pleased to hear that you've had a positive experience with our customer support team. We appreciate your feedback about the libraries and solving methods, new features and components are added to every new release so I hope the next release in spring this year will make Simcenter Amesim even better for you :)

"one of the best 1D programs, but with its shortcomings"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Simcenter Amesim?

1. A clear and logical interface, it gets better with each version; other 1D programs do not have this.

2. Extensive help

3.The ability to integrate with other programs helps, which also helps a lot, or closes the shortcomings of Amesim

4. Extensive number of libraries

5. An extensive number of libraries that made the work easier. The main designation of components is standardized, and people who did not know amesim could quickly figure it out

Amesim is a product with which my daily work is connected. Glad to see new updates and development of components. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simcenter Amesim?

1. ! There is little information in the help specifying how and where this or that parameter comes from

2. ! Not an accurate description of how to set up communication with other software. As it turned out later, only the company’s support can tell you this. But after a month of trial and error I was able to set it up myself

3. ! There is a shortage of components that have to be described using other products Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Chiel Verhoeven of Simcenter Amesim

Hi Kristina, thanks a lot for your review! It's great to see you like the ease of use of Simcenter Amesim. I understand the points of improvement you suggest and I can strongly recommend you to contact our support engineers if needed, if only to save you a lot of time searching for the solution. "Multi physics system simulation with Amesim"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Simcenter Amesim?

Our experience with Amesim is very positiv and we use it in a wide range of domains.

In Model-based development Amesim helps a lot to get a better and deeper understanding of functions and effects. Sometimes you gain some knowledge, from which you did not know yet, just by simply putting several physical effects together.

Multi-domain simulation is one of the biggest benefits we see in Amesim. Because of the big field of submodels in the standard libraries and the well evolved interfaces between them, it's quite easy to model across domain borders. You could say it's like playing with Lego technics.

From the very beginning (around 2004), Amesim offered the capability to create custom submodels and libraries. This was / is one key feature, which is kind of unique compared to other tools. And the feature was very important right from the start. Today there are plenty of submodels, written in old template code structure (C) and still run properly.

Without needing to underline this, the models in Amesim help in many areas today. We also use them for virtual testing and validation, system optimization, model-based calibration and so on. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simcenter Amesim?

There are some areas where improvements could be made:

License-free FMU (co-simulation): It would be of great benefit to be able to provide Functional Mock-up Units (FMUs) license-free.

Plot functions: The plot functions in Amesim seem to be a bit outdated. As workarounds, we use Python to create user-defined plots. However, this is not the preferred way for all users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Chiel Verhoeven of Simcenter Amesim

Hi, many thanks for your well-explained review and I understand from your text that you've been happily using Simcenter Amesim for quite some time already. Great! Any suggestions about the plotting functions and the FMU functionalities are always welcomed by our support engineers, so they can be considered by our product managers for new developments in future releases. Good to know: there is already an optional license available that allows you to export license-free FMU's, for more information I recommend you to contact your local sales representative.

"Best System Simulation Solution for Engineering"
5/5
What do you like best about Simcenter Amesim?

Simcenter Amesim allows me to easily connect various physical domains such as electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic seamlessly, thanks to the bond graph theory. The causality provided by the bond graph theory in the background prevents modeling incorrectly. Also you can connect to your other systems with FMU interface. And Siemens Support and community and also the Help section is very helpful when you encounter a problem. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simcenter Amesim?

There is nothing I don't like about Amesim. But maybe adding tutorials for demos with complex models would be a helpful feature for users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Chiel Verhoeven of Simcenter Amesim

Hi Kerem, thanks a lot for your 5* review! It's great that you mention the causality as positive point because it's indeed a great check to avoid making models that are physically impossible.

"Powerful Simulation Tool"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Simcenter Amesim?

- Large number of built-in libraries (standard signal components and multiphysics-libraries).

- Handy analysis facilities (very good plotting facility incl. time and frequency domain analysis).

- Various included additional tools ("Performance Analyzer" for model optimization, Python API for automation and user apps, FMU Import/Export, "Comparing Systems" tool for simple version control, etc.).

- Good trade-off between user-friendliness and flexibility by adjusting numerical simulation settings.

- Extensive documentation and set of demo models. At start, documentation may seem to be even too extensive.

- Great support team with very quick response time.

- Extra-tools are available: ROM Builder, GIT Client, Automation Connect (eg. for co-simulation with PLCSim Advanced).

In overall, it is a powerful simulation tool for dynamical simulation in different domains of physics, which is handy to use when you get used to it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simcenter Amesim?

- Takes some time and effort getting used to, for example by switching from other simulation tools. Here, the getting started documentation has an improvement potential.

- "Submodel Editor"-tool is necessary to implement an algorithm which has more than couple of code lines. It is ok, if you get used to it, but may be uncomfortable at start.

- Functionality of "Statechart"-tool is a bit too basic.

- Licensing costs and licensing model (some simulation libraries and extra-tools require additional license). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Chiel Verhoeven of Simcenter Amesim

Hi, thanks a lot for your review! It looks like you have used Simcenter Amesim quite extensively, great! Any feedback or feature requests are always welcome, feel free to let our support engineers know so they can provide them to our product managers :-)

"Long time user"
5/5
What do you like best about Simcenter Amesim?

Amesim offers extensive libraries for hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, electrical, and mechanical systems, enabling detailed modeling of complex mechatronic systems. It supports co-simulation with 3D CAE software, CAD import, and various real-time targets (MIL/SIL/HIL) and is also very intuitive with interactive help, scripting capabilities for MATLAB, Python, and Excel, and the ability to develop custom models.

It can also be used in co-simulation with many 3rd-party tools for cross-platform integration.

It is the go-to tool for every simulation in our company. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Simcenter Amesim?

Amesim is a perfect tool for multiphysic simulations. But should you need help with a feature it is always better to collaborate with a long-term user and Siemens Partner like BSIM in Italy instead of asking Siemens support directly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Chiel Verhoeven of Simcenter Amesim

Hi! Many thanks for your 5* review, and cutting development time by 30% is a great achievement to be proud of!
