Overpaying for Unnecessary Features and Poor Partner Experience **Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Joel A. **Reviewed Date:** December 17, 2025 **What do you like best about Shopify Plus?** I use Shopify Plus for my ecommerce website. The initial setup when we upgraded to Shopify Plus was relatively easy. **What do you dislike about Shopify Plus?** I feel like I pay a ton of money for something that I'm not really sure I get the most out of. I kinda think that I am locked into a service that I don't really need for my website. I think it's overkill for what I'm doing. I haven't noticed a significant difference between Shopify Plus and the other Shopify subscription model. What I really don't like is Shopify partners. It's the worst program, and I would never recommend it to anybody. Shopify partners is very deceiving. You can leave a positive review for a discount, but then they do crappy service. Shopify partners won't let you change the review, and Shopify didn't take any action when I reported a bad partner experience. It was terrible, and there's a good chance I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. **What problems is Shopify Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** I'm unsure about the benefits of Shopify Plus; it feels like I'm locked into a service I don't really need. ### 2. The website backend is easy to use overall. Implementing and integrating apps and other features was a breeze. Customer support is readily available. We were able to create an additional webpage to sell our product to distributors instead of consumers. **What do you dislike about Shopify Plus?** For us, it is a waste of money. Even with our revenue being above the suggested amount for Shopify plus, we spent more money in subscription costs than we would have if we just paid the full fee cost. We also didn't feel like the additional features quite made up for the cost. With Shopify making changes and getting rid of or changing integrated solutions like Shopify Payments and Reviews we are having to look into other services for these things, which is costing us even more money. It's just not worth it to us for what you get if you're a relatively small business (even if you're generating over 2mil in revenue.) **What problems is Shopify Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** Shopify Plus has helped us automate workflows (like cancelling fraudulent orders or tagging apparel orders.) It has also allowed us a second e-commerce page for our distributors, which has been helpful. ### 3. Fairly easy to use. **What do you dislike about Shopify Plus?** Missing basic features and over priced for what it does. **What problems is Shopify Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** It does give easier onboarding for employees, does allow invoicing. Does not allow basic functions like sorting by price on products etc. But for what it is it is not too bad and I am going to continue to use it. ### 5. Shopify plus+ is not for everyone ! Tiered Discounts 2. BOGO 3. Free Gifts / Shipping 4. Buddle discounts ...more earlier you needed to either write very complex code for it or use apps that were not reliable 100% of the time You could use Shopify Plus Enterprise Apps for free and unlimited staff accounts if you have outgrown your staff number. Other than there is a concession in credit card rates which could help you to reduce per sale cost. Also, you can create flash sales and new product launches and also get unified reporting if you have multiple stores. **What do you dislike about Shopify Plus?** For cons, you need to compare Shopify plus with custom developed website where you complete control over all the aspects. - Even after buying Shopify plus you don't have complete access to the backend as you would have in custom-developed sites. - If you heavily rely on content marketing, Shopify plus does not provide a sound content management system. - Even after Shopify Plus, you have SFTP or FTP for generating scheduled reports for analytics or switching point of you. - Also there is a learning curve for Shopify Plus and a certain level of expertise is required to make the most out of it or rely on experts. **What problems is Shopify Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** 1. Scripts allow store users to create complex logic as well as an app developer to provide more services as it increases control over the store. 2. Dedicate store manger 3. Create and manage store events and create hype around them. 4. Smooth payments which increase conversions. 5. B2B sales channel ### 6. If you're content with a given template with few customizations, it may be good for you. **What do you dislike about Shopify Plus?** For the $2k/month price, key eCommerce features are missing, requiring an endless array of third-party apps... - Anything beyond a very basic menu requires an extra app/charge - Any catalog sorting/filtering requires an extra app/charge - Any sort of wishlist requires an extra app/charge - Redirecting search terms requires an extra app/charge - Pricing changes are unnecessarily cumbersome. - The drag & drop design interface only applies to the home page, other pages only give you a basic text editor to build the page. - Blogs also give you a basic text editor to build the page. - You cannot exclude products from discounts on criteria, only include on criteria. - You cannot exclude products from categories on criteria, only include on criteria. - You couldn't create a return label until very recently. **Recommendations to others considering Shopify Plus:** Consider every tiny functionality you want on your website (Forms, Menus, Sorting, Wishlists, Reviews, Category Structures, Media-Heavy Blogs or Pages) and see what Shopify offers for those things natively (very little) and consider the app subscriptions you'll require to truly run your website. Shopify is in no way an all-inclusive cost or solution. **What problems is Shopify Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** The business problem we solved was Magento, a cumbersome CMS, and site downtime. Additionally, Shopify offers great payment options for customers, easy to set up Apple, Google, and Amazon Pay and PayPal. ### 7. These include things like: security and speed in the web-hosting arena, good customer support, and a variety of useful features. Shopify also offers some marketing tools but they're not whiz-bang. **What do you dislike about Shopify Plus?** The biggest problem for me, as a small business owner, is the pricing. At nearly $30 a month for the most basic package, I didn't find it a fiscally responsible move. And, if that isn't enough, there are additional fees for : platform, credit cards, and add-ons. Customization is challenging and the blogging/content marketing side leaves a lot to be desired. Plus you have to learn the Shopify lingo and set-up is considerably longer than one would expect. **Recommendations to others considering Shopify Plus:** Do your research. If it is something that will contribute to the overall financial well-being of your company then go for it! **What problems is Shopify Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest problem for any small business is how to make money. When it comes to ecommerce it is important that the program or app one uses is fiscally responsible.
