The downside to ShareX is also a positive, which is the number of options available to a user. Generally most of these options will not be used but they clutter the user interface massively, which can also cause confusion.

For example, you may accidentally record a screenshot rather than produce a screen recording.

There is also the occasional bug in the software where the recording button disappears.

ShareX is more than just a screenshot tool, it can record video, annotate, and upload to the cloud. I find myself using the annotation tool a lot. It allows me to draw and write on the image, blur out sensitive information, and even crop. All of that is done before the picture is saved, which saves a lot of time for me. The settings or configuration that I set in my ShareX program keeps resetting itself to factory when I restart my computer. For example, I lose the setting where the images are saved and so are my cloud uploaders. I have asked the developer about this and their only solution was to use a preview version of their software, which didn’t fix the problem. What I like best is ShareX is free and open source. Despite this, it gets regular updates that the developers push out to fix bugs and add new features. ShareX comes with different types of captures such as screen shot, gif capture, and video capture. There also exists a built-in uploading system using which you can upload images, texts, files, url shortener, etc. ShareX allows uploading to stable hosting platforms such as Imgur, Pastebin, Dropbox, GitHub, OneDrive, etc. This ensures that what you upload will always remain accessible through the URL. I love how easy it is to take screenshots and screen captures on my pc. I also love that you can do screen capture directly to gif output! The image editing options built in are also pretty great for our needs for documentation (like blur, and annotation). I dislike that ShareX is only for PC, and not apple. A few of my employees use apple and we have to use a different software which has limited capabilities. The interface is simple and easy to learn, and there are multiple keyboard shortcuts you can use to capture in a convenient manner. With ShareX, you can take screenshots, capture video, create GIFs, etc. Once captured, ShareX will automatically upload it to the cloud server and present you with the URL to share it with anyone. ShareX for me is not just a simple tool for capturing screenshots but a real godsend for those who, like me, are forced by work to perform various screen captures (in the field of computer forensics, for example) or short video clips to create internal tutorials and procedures to share with colleagues or other users. I really appreciate the integrated and free video and screenshot editor that allows you to crop, blur, underline, and add annotations without having to download heavy video editing software or photo editing programs. Some updates are not correctly notified by the automatic update system despite having been given all permissions for automatic execution at startup and the download of new software with subsequent installation by the administrator. This is a problem already reported by many users that I hope will be resolved because often the auto-upload to YouTube stops working, and it becomes necessary to visit the developer's page to understand whether a new version of ShareX has been released or not, and then update it manually, resulting in a loss of valuable work time. Although the recent update changed ShareX's appearance for the better visually, it also introduced bugs that didn't previously exist. Upon restart of the computer, your entire task history would be cleared.
