I implemented ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management to improve efficiency in project planning, optimize resources, and increase agility for stronger overall project performance. In my experience, it works very well for both roadmap planning and resource planning, and it also supports faster product releases. Features such as portfolio planning, which help align work across the company, are especially valuable for large organizations with multi-department hierarchies. These capabilities are key for setting goals, building roadmaps, and evaluating portfolio progress over time. I also found the initial setup straightforward, thanks to the out-of-the-box ServiceNow plugins. The user interface is easy to access through the strategic planning workspace, which is very helpful for platform owners and other functional leads. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The Now Assist for SPM still feels very basic from a generative standpoint, mainly summarizing projects and automatically creating demands. I think it could be embedded into other key SPM areas to further reduce manual work and make the overall experience more efficient. ServiceNow should bring more agentic AI capabilities to strengthen and improve SPM features. There also seem to be limited OOB integration opportunities since SPM is fairly unique, but it would still be helpful if it could integrate better with ServiceNow spokes.
