"Unified IT Workflow and End-to-End Asset Visibility with ServiceNow ITAM"
4/5
What do you like best about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

The standout feature of ServiceNow IT Asset Management is how smoothly it fits into a unified IT workflow. Because it integrates directly with Incident, Change, and Problem Management, it gives end-to-end visibility into assets from procurement through disposal. That visibility helps replace scattered spreadsheets and cuts down on manual tracking, making it much easier to keep asset information accurate and manageable in one central place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

ServiceNow ITAM has some major drawbacks, including a high total cost of ownership, a steep learning curve, and a complex initial setup. The platform also relies heavily on the broader ServiceNow ecosystem, which often means you need significant consulting support or ongoing administrative effort to implement it effectively. "Centralized Asset Management with a Steep Learning Curve"
5/5
What do you like best about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

I use ServiceNow IT Asset Management to track and manage IT assets throughout their lifecycle. I like the centralized asset management dashboard, which provides clear visibility into hardware and software assets. The automation, reporting, and lifecycle tracking capabilities save me time, improve accuracy and make asset management more efficient. What do you dislike about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

While this is a powerful platform, the areas I have a little difficulty dealing with are the learning curve, complexity of setup, and ease of customization. As a new user, I was a little overwhelmed at first in creating custom reports or workflows, but with experience it gets easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Single-Platform IT Asset Lifecycle Management with Strong Visibility and Compliance"
5/5
What do you like best about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

What I like most about ServiceNow IT Asset Management is that it provides a single platform to manage the entire lifecycle of IT assets—from procurement and deployment to maintenance and retirement. It helps organizations maintain accurate asset visibility, optimize software and hardware usage, improve compliance, and reduce unnecessary costs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

I wouldn’t say I dislike IT Asset Management, but one challenge is that maintaining accurate asset data requires disciplined processes. If Discovery, procurement, and manual updates aren’t properly managed, the asset inventory can quickly become outdated. However, with the right integrations and governance, this can be effectively addressed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Seamless CMDB-ITAM Integration with Powerful Asset Visibility"
4.5/5
What do you like best about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

The most impressive technical aspect of ServiceNow ITAM is the seamless integration between the CMDB and the Hardware/Software Asset Management modules. The "single pane of glass" isn't just marketing—having a shared data schema across ITSM and ITAM means that when an incident is logged against a CI, we have immediate visibility into its warranty status, depreciation, and contractual entitlements. The Content Library is also a massive time-saver; it automatically normalizes discovered software data, which significantly reduces the manual effort required for license reconciliation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

The platform's power comes with a high degree of complexity. The implementation phase requires a very mature understanding of your own internal processes; if your data is "garbage" going in, the automation will only speed up the mess. Additionally, the User Interface (UI) for advanced configuration can feel dated compared to the newer "Next Experience" workspaces, and the cost of the Pro/Enterprise tiers can be a barrier for mid-sized operations. What do you dislike about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

One thing I was concerned initially and disliked is ITAM can feel but complex for new users. It takes some basic understanding for customising and setting up process. Also some process feel bit slow or requires multiple steps, which can be improved. Licensing cost is high which concerns smaller teams. Overall it's excellent. "Powerful Integrations, Needs UI Refinement"
5/5
What do you like best about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

I really like ServiceNow IT Asset Management for its UI and the ease of integration with many downstream applications. We use many integrations that carry critical financial data, and when an error occurs, it triggers a notification in ServiceNow and assigns it to a particular group, which helps us resolve issues timely. The initial setup was good too, as it allows us to track who is assigned with assets, along with the license end date. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

The recent UI change is very hard for us to read, and a few sections within the ticket are not user-friendly for a common person. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Eliminating Procurement Guesswork: Achieving Complete Visibility and Audit Readiness"
5/5
What do you like best about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

ServiceNow ITAM is the premier enterprise solution for transforming fragmented asset data into a unified, strategic engine. It effectively bridges the gap between raw inventory and business intelligence, allowing organizations to move from reactive firefighting to a proactive, governed operating model. This is not just a tool; it is a strategic journey toward organizational maturity. Many of my clients lack an established governance structure or a formal operating model to oversee their assets, and ServiceNow provides the necessary framework to transition from a manual state to a governed, proactive environment.

Building the Foundation: SAM and HAM Milestones For clients who have already invested in ITSM and ITOM, the move to ITAM offers a massive tactical advantage. Because the CMDB is already in place as a single source of truth, they have the inventory foundation required for an immediate 360 degree view of their environment. This allows for precise mapping of complex licensing, specifically for heavyweights like SAP, Microsoft, and Oracle, against what is actually installed. During the First Days, the focus is on reducing known SaaS spend by utilizing accurate asset data to manage renewals and remove unused subscriptions.

Having the CMDB details in place like the exact quantity of hardware and the software installed inside a server, as well as the number of endpoints and the installed software inside them, is the critical first milestone. As you establish this single source of truth, you gain complete visibility of the IT environment. In the First Weeks, the journey progresses to detecting unknown software spend and optimizing cloud resources. This involves uncovering costs, auto-categorizing redundant software, and consolidating apps to sunset what is unnecessary.

Software Asset Management (SAM) Specifics The platform delivers excellence through the SAM Professional suite. By using the Content Library for automated normalization and the License Workbench, the system provides clear direction that helps you make actionable decisions to either procure, dispose, or reuse licenses. Through the Now Assist chatbot, the system provides out of the box AI driven agents that automate software requests, reclamation rules, and compliance summarization, removing the manual busy work from asset managers. This is supported by the high speed RaptorDB architecture which ensures that even massive global estates are processed with high performance, while native APIs seamlessly bridge the gap between procurement and discovery.

Hardware Asset Management (HAM) Specifics On the hardware side, the dedicated Asset Workspaces provide a centralized, intuitive UI/UX that makes managing the entire lifecycle far more accessible. A major advantage is the seamless integration with procurement tools like Oracle, ensuring a fluid end to end process. ServiceNow provides out of the box integration with license providers and your local environment, creating full visibility and unifying what you have and what you have purchased in the shortest period of time. This extends to procurement requests originating from project teams through Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM), allowing a unified view of what is available in stock versus what needs to be purchased.

This visibility is critical for managing IT onboarding, IT offboarding, and asset ownership. Having real time data on End of Life (EOL) and End of Support (EOS) allows leadership to plan hardware refreshes and software migrations before they become security risks. Furthermore, by enabling auditability, compliance, and reusability, the platform drives significant ROI and provides a clear path for onboarding assets into a sustainable lifecycle. For highly regulated industries, the integration with Integrated Risk Management (IRM) is a massive advantage, linking asset compliance directly to the organization's risk posture.

In Summary ServiceNow ITAM provides a comprehensive ecosystem that turns technical data into a strategic asset. By leveraging the existing CMDB, it empowers organizations to achieve full transparency and fiscal control over their digital estate, regardless of their initial maturity level. It is an Ongoing journey of ensuring the estate is kept complete, compliant, and correct. ServiceNow best practices provide a detailed approach on how to get the quickest time to value, which can be found via Now Create. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ServiceNow IT Asset Management?

While the platform is incredibly powerful, the initial setup and configuration can be complex, particularly for organizations with low data maturity. Achieving a clean, high fidelity CMDB, which is the prerequisite for ITAM success, requires a significant investment in time and data cleansing. One of the biggest hurdles is the "guesswork" often faced by both implementers and end users when navigating the vast capabilities of the tool. To truly address this gap, there is a clear need for experienced ITAM experts to fully guide the journey. Without high level architectural guidance to define what should come first, organizations can struggle to prioritize the right modules to achieve the quickest time to value.

Maintaining the CMDB is highly challenging in ensuring completeness, compliance, and correctness.

Hardware and Software Asset Management (HAM and SAM) Challenges

HAM and SAM are a great "coat" to ensure the check and balance regularly, but they require a team of skilled professionals to fully maintain data coming from diverse technologies.

On the HAM side, managing the physical lifecycle across Virtual Machines (VMs), on premise hardware, and mobile devices requires constant vigilance to ensure the discovery data matches the financial record. On the SAM side, the complexity increases significantly. Since ITAM manages multiple integrations with diverse software providers, it requires a significant team based effort to verify the correctness of how licenses are read. Navigating various complex license models from Microsoft enterprise agreements to Open Source and specialized SAP or Oracle metrics is not a "set and forget" task. It requires constant collaboration between technical teams and asset managers to ensure the system is interpreting entitlement data accurately against the actual consumed licenses.

Barriers to Entry and UX

The licensing model of the platform itself can also be a barrier for smaller organizations, as the cost of advanced modules can add up quickly. From a UI/UX perspective, while the modern workspaces are a huge improvement, some legacy administrative views still feel disconnected, leading to a steeper learning curve for those who need to go "under the hood" of the configuration.

In Summary

The platform's greatest strength, its depth and customizability, is also its greatest challenge. It requires a clear operating model, a collaborative team effort, and dedicated expertise to remove the ambiguity of the implementation roadmap. It is not just a "plug and play" solution; it is a long term strategic commitment that necessitates expert led guidance to ensure the system is built correctly from day one. It is a good solution, but it requires thorough planning. While it is a journey, the significant returns on investment are absolutely realized if the foundation is laid correctly.
