It’s easy to use, even for colleagues without much development experience. For product owners, it’s a good option to try out as a POC or for an internal project. What I like best about ServiceNow App Engine is the combination of App Engine Studio and Flow Designer. The drag-and-drop workflow builder makes it much faster to automate approval processes and operational tasks without writing a lot of custom code. From a DevOps perspective, I also like how easily it integrates with REST APIs, which helps connect deployment pipelines, monitoring tools, and cloud platforms. Instead of handling repetitive requests manually, we can automate them, saving time and reducing human error. An unexpected benefit is how quickly non-developers can build or modify internal applications, which speeds up collaboration between development, operations, and business teams without always depending on engineering resources. One area that could be improved is the performance of App Engine Studio when working on larger applications with multiple tables, flows, and integrations it can sometimes feel slow and make development less efficient. From a DevOps perspective, troubleshooting complex workflows is also challenging because debugging and logging capabilities could be more detailed. I would also like to see deeper native integration with modern DevOps tools and better version control and CI/CD support to simplify application deployment and change management. Before using ServiceNow App Engine, many internal operational requests and approval workflows relied on manual emails and spreadsheets, which slowed down delivery and increased the risk of errors. With App Engine, we can build automated workflows, centralized request forms, and approval processes much faster. This has reduced manual effort, improved visibility into request status, and standardized operations across teams. In the traditional approach, creating internal business apps often required experienced developers, lengthy development cycles, and coordination across multiple tools. AES improves this by offering a low-code environment where I can build applications faster using prebuilt components, templates, and guided configurations. As a result, development time is reduced and the need for deep coding expertise is lower. AES also helps close the gap between business users and IT teams. In many organizations, business requirements can stall because of communication issues or IT backlogs. By enabling “citizen developers” and process owners to take part directly in building apps, AES helps ensure the final solutions are closer to real business needs and can be delivered with less delay. From my perspective, the biggest advantage is productivity and speed. I can quickly prototype and deliver applications in my ServiceNow PDI without having to start from scratch each time. It also supports more consistent development through built-in best practices, which helps reduce errors and avoid rework. On top of that, AES integrates smoothly with Flow Designer and other ServiceNow modules, allowing me to automate workflows more efficiently. Overall, AES lets me spend more time solving business problems and less time on coding and setup, making my development process more efficient, structured, and repeatable.
