## Sequel Pro Reviews
  ### 1. Straightforward, solid database software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

It is cleanly organized and straightforward to use. Doesn't feel cluttered compared to some other database viewers/editors. Been using this for many years, and the core functionalities are solid. Overall, it performs the main database tasks correctly and reliably, and the everything is sized just right to view all the data easily.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

It is no longer maintained, so it has some bugs, such as a crash after closing, not supporting the latest mySQL, a few glitches in MariaDB, etc. However, compared to its sequel (Sequel Ace), some of the core functionalities are still more reliable - for example, no internal mistakes in selecting the wrong database, no random freezes when trying to load a database, etc.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use this to view, edit, and manage the data in our dev and production databases. It feels very hassle-free.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Priti Shree N. | Software Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2021

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

Sequel Pro is a very simple application with a clean interface. Sequel Pro is also very easy to use, as it lets you modify all the fields in a database. Its built-in tools make it very easy to import and manage databases. It has the easy feature of managing multiple databases. Beyond all of these features, Sequel Pro is an open-source and free application.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

The only dislike that I would like to mention here is Crashing of the application seems to be frequent while doing heavy operations. Apart from it, Sequel Pro is a good application, and all of its features are very userfriendly

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

Suppose you are stuck managing multiple databases. You can have a perfect solution with Sequel Pro. This application won’t let you regret it except its frequent crashing flaws.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing the multiple databases daily for my company is now easy with the help of Sequel Pro. You can separate databases and keep your work clean using the software.

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

The best UI you can get for the SQL tables with the list of features that lets you do any sort of SQL operations with the proper analysis on the structure, indexes, and everything.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

The main issue I have faced is it crashes when you even close the tab and asks for sending a crash report to the makers, which is annoying in every sense for me as it keeps on happening again and again.

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

Use Sequel Pro for all SQL operations.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Sequel Pro for visualizing, editing SQL Data. The benefit is the best UI you can get for the SQL tables with the list of features that lets you do any SQL operations with the proper analysis on the structure, indexes, and everything.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian John S. | Clarity Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2021

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

Very easy to use standard SQL commands to create a versatile database.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

Having more visual representations of the databases would be a good feature.

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

As a full-stack developer for many years, I have extensively used Sequel Pro for my database needs. It's a great tool to create and manage versatile databases. I recommend all developers try out Sequel Pro to build relational-based databases.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a full-stack developer for many years, I have extensively used Sequel Pro for my database needs. It's a great tool to create and manage versatile databases.

  ### 6. Perform simple assignments with Sequel Pro

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mehak W. | Information Technology Specialist, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 06, 2019

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

Sequel Pro is great as it allows us to create and manage new databases, as well as edit certain areas and options. We are also able to work with raw SQL when server and database management is required. With the particular queries processed and prepared to use, Sequel Pro lets you have many databases open. It has an impressive interface where you can see tables and columns for relationships in tables rapidly.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

Sequel Pro often crashes, especially when you're opening and closing more than one link tab and when it is just opened in the background randomly. Also, sometimes it's hard to set up MySQL with Sequel Pro, so I have to make some manual changes to the database.

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

Sequel Pro is a great SQL client app. It is suitable for companies that need assessment on the administration of incoming and outgoing databases. Perhaps it is not suitable for broad implementations, because it can fail from the quality point of view.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We operate with several customers and sites, so we needed a GUI implementation that could be more effective than using terminals or cloud-based applications to holds credentials on the database, and that's why we decided to set up Sequel Pro. It offered us the possibility to perform simple assignments and requests in a GUI framework, which saves some valuable time in written queries. Honestly, it is the best tool I have ever used to manage MySQL.

  ### 7. Great Remote MySQL Software with One Reservation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

Easy to setup & use for Remote MYSQL Access. Very clean interface, intuitive design, quick loading, and free.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

Hasn't been updated in a long while so bugs are present. Specifically when I try to manage Users with the latest MySQL version, I get endless popups stating "user is too long" and I have to force quit out of the program to make it work.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Sequel Pro I am able to manage my Databases remotely using a native MacOS app

  ### 8. excellent tool to query dbms

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

It's support for multiple rdbms, easy to use and clean interface

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

Uses much cpu, hangs sometimes while querying a big table, not able to abort a query

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

Easy to setup. Handy tool while developing web apps

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

i use it for software development purpose. It saves lot of time to check db entries while development also while debugging.

  ### 9. Easy of use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ravi A. | Senior Member Of Technical Staff, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

Smooth UI and good speed. You can search for multiple tables using the pipe filter. You can directly update the data in the table without writing the query. You can search for the data, again without writing the query. This can be done using the search tool given in the header.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

Comparing it with other query tools, it does not save the query automatically for you. You have to save your queries manually and then you can open them again when you use it the next time. It is because of this reason that people tend to use MySQL workbench after using sequel pro.

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

If your job requires searching through the database, go for it. If you need to write queries a lot, then you need to save them before quitting this tool as they won't be saved.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We access our database using this tool. We access local, dev, production database. Production and Test database are accessed using SSH. We connect to bastion servers using our ssh keys directly through this tool. Hence, we do not have to create a tunnel to connect to bastion servers for this.

  ### 10. MySQL from your desktop

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rafael L. | Director de Marketing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

I like it because allows me to have all the MySQL connections on my computer. I can view tables structure, do queries, check content, export data, etc... Gives me a lot of connection possibilities and it is a multitab application.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

I don't like that while I'm trying to export I cannot change the path with my keyboard. I only can do it with a modal view.

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

I think you must give a chance to SequelPro because it's free and have a lot of functionalities. It is a MySQL manager made for professionals.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SequelPro gives me the possibility of admin my MySQL databases in one place. I don't need to look for the web manager URL or the console access anymore.

  ### 11. Seems like the best database management application

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Logan B. | Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

I like how the user interface is pretty simple. I can easily view my connections, tables, and any other additional information fairly easy. I've also enjoyed how it lets you save queries and how it has a history of queries that have been run.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

The application crashes very frequently. This gets annoying.

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

It seems like the best choice for Mac osx users but be careful because it crashes frequently.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to easily view our data and run queries against it.

  ### 12. Generally great experience, except for unexpected crashes

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Semiconductors | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2016

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

It's the best free database access software out there. Keyboard shortcuts are generally intuitive and easy to get used to, which makes working on it a lot faster. UI is simple and functional.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

It sporadically crashes--not frequently, but often enough to be very annoying. Additionally when you close tabs/close the whole program there is no warning that your code will be lost, and it does not prompt you to save. If you accidentally close a tab you were working on you're out of luck.

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

There is better software available IF you're willing to pay. Sequel Pro is the best for free.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My entire job relies on having fast, reliable database access. I would say Sequel Pro accomplishes that--I just wish it would auto-save my work periodically, OR warn me before I accidentally close working tabs.

  ### 13. Best MySQL editor on Mac

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2016

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

Easy to edit fields on the fly. The interface is excellent and works well for quick edits. It also has a pretty good SQL editor.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

The exporting is finicky when it comes to double quotes. Exporting to CSV sometimes fails and works fine in PHPmyAdmin.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Since we are a Mac only house, our choices from a free software standpoint are very limited. We use this company-wide for quick edits. It just works.

  ### 14. A fully feature git client, that's easy to use

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

It covers most git features in an easy to use manner.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

It can be slow at times, and sometimes freezes if it has to do large tasks.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was using this as a user interface for interacting with my git source code source code repositories, as it made the task easier than using the git CLI.

  ### 15. Good as it's free but still a step away from being perfect

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jerry (Jie) J. | Business Analytics Manager, Financial Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2016

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

I have been using SQL for more than 10 years, including SQL Server, DB2, Teradata and MySQL. And my experience with MySQL in general are just good enough to handle basic. I started using Sequel Pro few weeks back when I joined a new company where MySQL is the main database, and SSL is required. There are not many free options as for SSL-support under Mac, and fortunately I found Sequel Pro.

I like how Sequel Pro is powerful comparing with the many other free tools, and here are what I like most:
1. Very straightforward interface, way better than many other tools. So you are even required to read the tutorial to get most functions you need.
2. Functionalities are very much enough, you can browser tables, check sample data, schema, and relations, all in one click.
3. Most of the time works perfect, and it seems to have cache ability that when you run a code again you will retrieve cache, but I have not yet confirmed.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

There are still some areas that requires improvement.
1. It's not quite stable, and often you will see the app crashes. If you cancel a running query, sometimes, it takes minutes or even much longer.
2. The interface is being too simple that not everything can be found easily, i.e. run the current code (where the cursor is) vs. run the whole code in the editor. Or how to download the result (I actually didn't find how to copy the result, but have to use export to a CSV file).
3. There is query history, but seems not result history, or maybe I didn't find it.

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

Make more development and focus on details

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using Sequel Pro daily to work on all business data, and that is the no.1 tool we use everyday. All business decisions came from the result that we run on Sequel Pro

  ### 16. Native UI for MySQL dbs more convenient than PHPMyAdmin

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** TJ N. | Senior UI Developer, Design, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 09, 2016

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

The bookmarks feature makes it easy to save connections to a variety of different database servers.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

I frequently repeat the same tasks, including dumping an export from one database and importing it to another on a different machine. This is still a very manual process in Sequel Pro, and it would be nice to have a sync feature.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Easy access to many different database servers in one place makes devops tasks more fluid.

  ### 17. Best SQL Viewer

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Yu Chen H. | Co-Founder, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 28, 2016

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

Looks great on Mac (looks better than PhpMyAdmin), very usable

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

So far so good, I wish it supported other databases though.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Database management and debugging webapps

  ### 18. Still the most reliable SQL GUI out there

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Seth B. | Software Engineer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 08, 2015

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

Established, stable GUI for interacting/analyzing a MySQL database. Very handy for quick, simple queries, but has some advanced capabilities when you need them as well. Its EXPLAIN tools are particularly helpful.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

I have long wished they would support PostgreSQL.

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sequel Pro makes it easy for business users to get at basic data and interact with it in a familiar fashion. It's also a useful tool in the software developer's toolkit, though at a certain point, database GUIs become more trouble than they're worth.

  ### 19. Simpliest!

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2015

**What do you like best about Sequel Pro?**

I was looking for some free SQL client for mac and then found Sequel Pro! I am very happy with my decision. It is may not be the best client for databases but it is very simple, fast, easy to use and with all minimum features required. And best MySQL client for mac. It also has new features like SSH tunneling to connect to secure databases.

**What do you dislike about Sequel Pro?**

UI is little difficult to use than other tools I used so far. Other than that it has almost all the features needed.

**Recommendations to others considering Sequel Pro:**

--

**What problems is Sequel Pro solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for queries, database modules development for data analytics, BI purposes.
