## About Site Audit

Semrush Site Audit is a comprehensive technical SEO crawling and analysis tool designed to help website owners, SEO professionals, and digital marketing teams identify, prioritize, and fix issues that negatively impact a site's search engine and AI search visibility. It is available as part of the Semrush SEO Toolkit or Semrush One subscription plans. At its core, Site Audit functions as a powerful website crawler that systematically scans an entire domain—or a specific subdomain or subfolder—and produces a detailed health report. The tool performs over 140 on-page and technical SEO checks, covering everything from surface-level issues like duplicate content, broken links, and missing meta tags, to in-depth analysis of HTTPS implementation, hreflang attribute usage, AMP pages, crawlability, and indexability. It also includes a dedicated AI Search category focused on Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), helping sites perform better in AI-driven search tools such as ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, and Claude. Upon completing a crawl, Site Audit generates an overall Site Health score—a single metric that reflects the website's technical condition and can be tracked over time to measure improvement. Issues are organized into three severity tiers (errors, warnings, and notices) and grouped into thematic reports covering areas such as Crawlability, HTTPS Implementation, International SEO, Site Performance, Internal Linking, Markups (structured data), and Core Web Vitals. Each issue comes with a "How to fix" tooltip, making the tool accessible to beginners and experienced SEO teams alike. The AI Search health features are particularly notable: Site Audit checks whether AI crawlers—including ChatGPT-User, OAI-SearchBot, Googlebot, Google-Extended, Perplexity-User, PerplexityBot, Claude-User, and Claude-SearchBot—are being blocked by a site's robots.txt, and surfaces pages that need content optimization to be referenced in AI-generated answers. Site Audit supports flexible crawl configurations, including the ability to crawl desktop or mobile versions of a site, render JavaScript, include or exclude specific pages, and set crawl scope to domain, subdomain, or subfolder. Crawls can be run on-demand or scheduled for automatic daily or weekly re-crawls. The tool can handle up to 20,000 pages per audit on standard plans and up to 100,000 pages on Business-tier plans, with enterprise-level crawling reaching up to 1,000,000 pages per month. Reporting capabilities include shareable exports in CSV, Excel, and PDF formats, white-label reporting, automated email reports, and real-time alerts and notifications. The Progress tab features an interactive line graph to visualize how issue counts and health metrics change over time across multiple crawls. The Crawled Pages report provides granular page-level data including Internal Link Rank (ILR), crawl depth, HTTP status codes, load time, structured data, canonicalization, hreflang, and blocked AI search bots. Site Audit integrates with Google Analytics to add pageview data to audit results and surface orphaned pages, with Google Search Console for crawl validation, with Trello for direct issue assignment to development teams, with Zapier for workflow automation with tools like Asana, Monday, Jira, Salesforce, and HubSpot, and with Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio) for custom dashboard reporting. It also feeds into Semrush's My Reports suite for consolidated, branded PDF reporting.

"A powerful SEO tool for keyword research and competitor analysis, but a bit expensive"

5/5

What do you like best about Semrush?

What I like most about Semrush is how it brings so many useful SEO tools together in one place. I've mainly used it for keyword research, competitor analysis, and identifying opportunities to improve website rankings. The Keyword Magic Tool is particularly helpful for discovering relevant keywords and understanding their search volume and competition. I also find the competitor analysis features really useful because they give me a clearer picture of what's working for other websites. The interface is fairly easy to navigate once you get familiar with it, and the data helps me make better SEO decisions instead of relying on guesswork. Overall, it's a very practical tool for anyone working in SEO or digital marketing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

One thing I don't particularly like about Semrush is its pricing. While it offers a lot of useful features, the subscription can be quite expensive, especially for freelancers, students, or small businesses with limited budgets. Another issue I've noticed is that some of the keyword data and traffic estimates don't always match the actual results, so I sometimes need to cross-check them with other tools like Google Search Console. Also, although the platform is packed with features, it can feel a bit overwhelming at first, particularly when you're still learning SEO. Some of the advanced tools take time to understand properly. I think Semrush is a great platform overall, but more affordable plans and a simpler experience for beginners would make it even better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Semrush solving and how is that benefiting you?

Semrush helps me solve one of the biggest challenges in SEO, which is figuring out why a website isn't performing well in search results and what can be done to improve it. I've mainly used it for keyword research, competitor analysis, and identifying gaps in website content and SEO strategies. Instead of spending hours manually researching keywords or checking competitors, I can get most of the information from one platform. It also helps me discover keywords that have decent search volume but relatively low competition, which is particularly useful when working with smaller businesses. Another benefit is being able to identify technical SEO issues and areas where a website could improve. Overall, Semrush saves me a considerable amount of research time and helps me make more informed decisions when developing SEO strategies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Replaced 3 different tools and improved reporting time by 80%"

4/5

What do you like best about Semrush?

What stands out most about Semrush is how effectively it centralizes competitive intelligence, technical health, and client reporting into a single workflow, replacing three or four disparate tool subscriptions. The Keyword Gap tool is indispensable for quarterly planning. Filtering for competitor keywords ranking in positions 4–15 where our domain lacks presence builds weeks of high-intent content briefs in minutes, eliminating hours of manual CSV cross-referencing. The Site Audit engine handles large crawls smoothly, cleanly prioritizing actionable issues (redirect loops, canonical errors) over vanity warnings. Native syncing with Google Search Console and Looker Studio automates executive-ready visibility dashboards without third-party connector fees. Daily position updates accurately track Share of Voice across SERP features (Featured Snippets, PAA boxes). The dashboard’s AI Copilot actively surfaces traffic anomalies and ranking decay before they become major problems. While seat licenses add up quickly, Semrush easily justifies its cost by consolidating dedicated rank trackers, backlink databases, and technical crawlers. An unexpected operational win has been the Brand Monitoring tool, which allows us to quickly identify and convert unlinked brand mentions into high-authority backlinks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

Extra user seats are disproportionately costly ($45–$100+/mo), and vital market intelligence tools (like Semrush .Trends) are paywalled behind pricey separate subscriptions. Link freshness and discovery still trail behind Ahrefs. It frequently reports active links as lost and lags when detecting newly earned digital PR placements. The dashboard is cluttered with PPC, social, and agency tools pure SEOs rarely touch, making the interface feel heavy and riddled with upsell banners. Keyword volume estimates struggle with low-volume, high-intent enterprise terms, routinely showing "0 volume" for queries that actively drive conversions in Google Search Console. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Semrush solving and how is that benefiting you?

We struggled with juggling multiple point solutions and spending 15 hours every month manually assembling reports. Now, we centralize all tracking in Semrush and automate client dashboards via Looker Studio, saving over $3,600/year in software subscriptions and cutting monthly reporting time by 80%. Its difficult to identify high-value competitor keyword gaps, taking two full weeks to map quarterly content. Now, the Keyword Gap tool isolates high-intent targets in minutes, reducing planning time to two days and driving a 34% lift in organic non-brand traffic. It's hard with site deployments silently introducing broken canonicals and noindex tags that went unnoticed for weeks. Now, automated weekly Site Audits instantly alert us to critical errors, cutting issue detection and fix times from three weeks to under 24 hours. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Accessible SEO Tool with Helpful Training and Consistent Performance"

4/5

What do you like best about Semrush?

The thing I like best about Semrush is just how accessible it is to people at all levels of SEO. That is not easily achieved in a complex subject. I found the training and support from the online courses really helpful in understanding the platform more and what I could achieve from it. I was encouraged by the fact they went back into those courses and added in details of AI's impact on search and how appearing in LLMs is more important than ever for your brand. The tool is immersive and performs consistently and the ability to integrate the data into LLMs such as Claude is integral for my ability to use data to analyse websites. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

I do wonder if there could be prompts or more visual aids within the platform to help assist users while they're using it. Some of the training is easily remembered, especially when using the product alongside it. But some of it is not remembered in the moment and I wonder if there is a tool that could somehow be integrated to assist with users' individual needs when using the platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Semrush solving and how is that benefiting you?

The primary problem it helps me solve is to crunch keyword data quickly through Claude to assess competitor performance and earmark areas of opportunity in terms of search volume for key terms relating to my ecommerce product. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Competitor Research That Makes SEO Investment Decisions Easy"

5/5

What do you like best about Semrush?

The competitor research is the most helpful part for me. In a crowded healthcare market, it lets me quickly see which keywords competing providers rank for that we don’t, and how their visibility shifts over time. When I combine it with Site Audit and Position Tracking, I get clear, concrete evidence to support a business case for website or content investment, rather than relying on a gut feel. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

It’s pretty pricey, especially once you start adding extra users or bumping up against project and keyword tracking limits. A lot of the handy stuff ends up being a paid add-on, which makes it a hard sell internally when you’re working with a smaller marketing budget. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Semrush solving and how is that benefiting you?

Before Semrush, it was hard to get a clear picture of how our three sites were actually performing in search compared to competitors. Now I can see where we’re losing visibility, which pages have technical issues, and which keywords we’re missing out on. It means I can prioritise fixes and content based on real data instead of guessing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"SEMrush Review – SEO Performance and Website Optimisation Insights for Smarter, Data-Driven Decisions"

5/5

What do you like best about Semrush?

I like SEMrush because it provides valuable insights into website performance, keyword rankings, technical SEO issues, and competitor strategies. The Site Audit and Position Tracking features help me identify opportunities for improvement, monitor progress, and make data-driven decisions to improve organic search visibility for the AU and NZ websites. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

Some features can take time to understand, especially when working with large amounts of SEO data. The keyword and crawl limits can also be restrictive when analysing multiple websites and tracking a large number of keywords. However, with more experience, I’m becoming more comfortable using the platform and making the most of its features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Semrush solving and how is that benefiting you?

SEMrush helps me identify technical SEO issues, track keyword rankings, analyse organic traffic, and discover opportunities to improve website performance. It allows me to monitor SEO health across the AU and NZ websites, prioritise issues, and make data-driven recommendations. This helps me work more efficiently, improve search visibility, and support the overall organic growth of the websites. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful AI Visibility Insights with Actionable Dashboards and Seamless Integration"

4/5

What do you like best about Semrush?

The integration is the real win. Prompt Research works like Keyword Magic for AI questions—great volume/intent data from a massive prompt database. Brand Performance gives clear share-of-voice, sentiment, and citation tracking across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews/AI Mode, Gemini, and Perplexity. The AI Visibility Score and Site Audit for AI-readiness make the data actually actionable next to your regular SEO reports. Clean interface and stakeholder-friendly dashboards. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

Base plan caps you at 25 tracked prompts and is priced per domain ($99/mo), which adds up fast for agencies or multi-site brands. Updates are mostly weekly, and coverage for Claude, Copilot, Grok, etc. is limited or Enterprise-only. Recommendations are useful but sometimes too high-level—more specific, executable next steps and higher prompt limits at the entry tier would make it stronger. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Semrush solving and how is that benefiting you?

Semrush helps me stay visible and competitive as search evolves beyond traditional Google results. For teams already using Semrush for SEO, the AEO features turn an existing investment into coverage for the new reality of how people find and evaluate brands. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Simple UI/UX with Powerful SEO Audits and Keyword Tools"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Semrush?

ui/ux is simple to use, the audit is especially helpful for ensuring our technical SEO is squared away, and the keyword overview and keyword magic tools are very helpful for PPC and organic strategies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

sometimes our products or search terms are too niche so SEMRush will return "no data" but we know from experience there is some level of search activity each month for those terms and that our competitors are bidding on them. I'm not a huge fan of the AI content creation tools as they don't seem to provide any value that I can't get from my LLM at a much cheaper price point. The AI writer seems to be a bit less advanced than others. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Semrush solving and how is that benefiting you?

It’s helping us identify the right keywords to build a strategy for our website. That, in turn, helps us target relevant searches we might not have considered otherwise. It also makes it easier to keep track of how we’re performing relative to competitors, and as our industry becomes more competitive, it helps us see when we need to focus on certain areas. "SEMrush Makes Keyword Research and Competitor Insights Easy"

5/5

What do you like best about Semrush?

Keyword research is the best tool for me, since I use Google Ads for keywords. The SEMrush tool helps me find search volume and check the relevance of each keyword, especially when Google’s Keyword Planner is missing details for certain keywords that are still relevant to our business.

Another feature I rely on is Domain Overview. It helps me gauge what competitors’ sites are doing and how they’re performing compared to us.

The AI overview feature also helps me check the keywords and questions people ask.

I also use the google analytics integration to keep an eye on our account. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

It’s quite expensive, and the AI data is behind a paywall. I’d really like to have at least some access to the AI data included in the existing plan.

It would also be ideal to have more data on our competitors, so we can go beyond what we currently track and better understand the UI/UX changes they make on their websites and how those changes impact their performance compared to ours. That way, we can make similar content or layout adjustments on our site and benefit from those changes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Semrush solving and how is that benefiting you?

Keywords volume and competitor ads are the biggest value for me, along with the data behind them.

I also appreciate the extra information I get for GA4 through the integration.

On top of that, the keyword tracking tool is very strong for monitoring relevant keywords and keeping an eye on our rankings for related SEO articles. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"All-in-One SEO Powerhouse for Enterprise Strategy and Competitive Insights"

5/5

What do you like best about Semrush?

I've used Semrush extensively for enterprise SEO strategy, keyword research, competitive analysis, and performance tracking. What I appreciate most is having so much information available in one place. The Keyword Magic Tool, Organic Research, Position Tracking, and Keyword Gap features are especially helpful for identifying content opportunities, monitoring competitors, and making data-driven recommendations.

As SEO evolves into AI search and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), I also appreciate Semrush's efforts to expand beyond traditional rankings. Understanding where a brand appears in AI-generated answers, how competitors are represented, and which topics offer visibility opportunities is becoming as important as tracking traditional search performance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

My biggest area for improvement is reporting flexibility and the ability to connect insights across toolkits. While Semrush provides a tremendous amount of data, translating that information into a clear, executive-level story can require additional manual analysis.

I'd also like more transparency around AI visibility metrics, including how prompts are selected, how often they're tested, and how visibility scores are calculated.

For larger enterprise websites, more flexibility in organizing keywords, URLs, product categories, and reporting groups would also make managing multiple SEO and AEO initiatives easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Semrush solving and how is that benefiting you?

Semrush helps me solve several challenges in managing enterprise SEO, competitive visibility, and growth opportunities. With multiple product lines and hundreds of pages to optimize, having keyword research, competitor analysis, ranking data, and content gap insights in one platform makes it easier to prioritize efforts and make informed decisions.

One of the biggest benefits is identifying where competitors are outperforming us, uncovering keyword opportunities, and measuring whether our optimization efforts are actually improving visibility. This helps me move beyond simply reporting rankings to developing strategies that support broader business goals.

As AI search continues to change how people discover information, Semrush is also helping bridge the gap between traditional SEO and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO). Understanding how search visibility is evolving is increasingly important, especially when demonstrating SEO's value to leadership.

Overall, Semrush saves me time on research and analysis, helps me make more strategic recommendations, and provides data to support SEO and AEO initiatives across the organization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Effortless Keyword Research with Actionable SEO Insights"

4/5

What do you like best about Semrush?

I like the ease of doing keyword research. It's easy to just jump in when we are planning content or SEO plays and understand search volume, rankings, difficulty, and get recommendations on how to pivot to get the best results. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Semrush?

Some features are challenging to understand and figure out how to use. I also feel like there are still a lot of nooks and crannies in the tool that I haven’t explored yet, or that I’m not fully utilizing. It’s also sometimes hard to tell which features are included in my subscription versus which ones are upgrades until I actually try to use them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Semrush solving and how is that benefiting you?

We run a lot of niche campaigns so doing keyword research and getting recommendations on how we can expand the reach of content has been really helpful. We recently launched a new website as well so it's coming time to optimize some pages and their content to make sure it aligns with search intent. Semrush has been helpful to point out which areas need more immediate attention and provide recommendations on how we can improve website traffic and retention.
