Mostly everything can be configured via the semaphore.yml config file or the dashboard, however there are some settings which can only be configured by using the sem command line tool. I found Semaphore through on their deployment tutorials. After having spent hours fighting with a competitor's CI/CD feature, using Semphore to deploy a docker image to Kubernetes was a breeze. Semaphore builds Docker images much faster than any of the tools I tried and their UI is easy to navigate. I ran into a technical issue with deployment and reached out to support. I'm been using several different CI/CD in my career and got to admin I like SemaphoreCI best. The user interface is just pleasant to look at and I get around. I love how SemaphoreCI suggests things you can do to improve your CI/CD workflow - setting up concurrent test runners, tasks that run after jobs are executed etc. The free tier is enough to support a couple of my personal projects but I'll happily switch to a paid plan once I get over the limit of 100 free builds/month. Having a CI/CD sit in between my development machine and staging/production servers allows me to go to sleep after I release my code. I've set up webhooks that trigger a deploy if the suite passes. I love the speed with which it deploys, I have used multiple CI/CD in my short career but never found such great interface and services which are provided with SemaphoreCI. It helps in improvising the CI/CD workflow by adding concurrency and easy to use UI. RSpec boosters is definitely a must mention as it adds the required automation. For a newbie like me, it had been a great experience with the semaphore CI/CD workflow. But I feel there is a little lack of the required documentation needed for a non-developer to come on board. Overall Their core team is constantly updating the features and it feels that you no user will feel like lacking some as it would be added soon. I believe that such a potential product needs some more marketing not because it is not good enough to acquire the market but due to the competition, it is facing from other fellow organizations. It's not only faster than our previous builds at Travis, we also pay a fraction of the costs. Because Semaphore is constantly getting new features, it's hard to dislike anything. It feels like if a feature is important, it will come sooner than you think. What we miss the most: Currently it's not possible to have any sort of access control for secrets. Secrets are visible to everyone in the organization. Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery is a requirement for all of our projects. No developer has to deploy something from his own machine, and all our Pull Requests are checked by Semaphore to ensure the app still works. Writing Semaphore pipeline definitions is much simpler than configurations from competitors, which removes any barriers to add CI to a new project – and the new Workflow Editor UI is the cherry on top. Have worked with many CI systems over the years and keep coming back to Semaphore -- for simple Ruby deployments into Heroku all the way through to custom workflows involving coordination between AWS resources, S3 and various third parties if it can be scripted on a computer terminal you can trust it to run fast and consistent on Semaphore. What do you dislike about Semaphore? When the specific package you're using is not installed or not the default version in semaphore you end of running a series of commands (like to install a DB version etc.) that are "not as cacheable" which leads to more time to run each build. Environment variables and encrypted files are "global" in that each branch uses the same set, when it comes time to sunset/rotate/upgrade a particular value you have to "version" your environment variable to have them running side by side until you have completed the upgrade (i.e. REDIS\_URL\_1 and REDIS\_URL\_2).
