There are several things I like most about Semaphore. First, the UI is fantastic. I find it really easy to navigate and use. Integrating Semaphore with our GitHub account was super easy, and we’ve seen very few performance issues. When it comes to pricing, I think it’s excellent for what you get out of the platform. Semaphore also makes it easy to see which projects have the biggest spend, so you can adjust if needed and try to reduce costs. I recently opened a support ticket for an issue that turned out to be on GitHub’s side, but throughout the process the support agent kept me up to date at every step, which I really appreciated as a customer. Admittedly, I haven’t explored Semaphore’s AI offerings much yet, but I’m keen to see how AI can help us use Semaphore even more efficiently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Semaphore? Nothing major springs to mind. I have noticed that some jobs can sit in the queue for a while, which I think is down to worker availability. You push code and get results quickly, which is what you want from CI. The config is clean, jobs run in parallel out of the box, and the UI is straightforward. What do you dislike about Semaphore? It gets in the way when you try to do anything non-trivial. Secrets handling is too basic, and dealing with multi-account AWS workflows is painful. You can’t really customize the environment the way you’d want, and debugging pipeline issues feels clunky - especially when you hit some edge cases with caching or parallel steps. It handles the basic CI needs well- build, test, deploy. For small-to-medium projects, it saves time by running things in parallel and keeping pipelines fast. That helps shorten feedback loops, especially when testing Docker builds or pushing to staging. The web UI stays out of your way and you can resort to CLI for everything you might need (besides analytics, I think). The ability to spin up the environments and ssh into it to debug potential issues makes it easy to spot issues. The documentation is fine, and above all - their support is human, swift and reliable. This is obviously tricky (need to reset artifacts and cache etc) but would save some time on long flaky ci runs (that you should not have, but ... probably have). We need to ensure our code is passing a number of criteria (e.g .automated tests) and that external environments are prepared to deploy different states of different products. Semaphore was easy to get started with and is one of the lower priced CI/CD platforms. Semaphore doesn't offer large machine types currently, and Linux ARM (which I needed) was in closed beta. I was looking for cross-platform cloud runners, which meant I was relying on their latest beta features. The pricing model is pretty good which makes it competitive with the alternatives, the configuration for the pipelines is pretty powerful and there are rarely any outages or major problems. The support is very polite and responds quickly and they treat reported bugs seriously. The additional tooling for monitoring tests stability is quite nice and test reports make it easy to find which specs has failed, especially when running them in parallel. It's clear that Semaphore continues investing in improving their product and adding new features, something that is often not the case with other CIs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Semaphore? The API is still in v1alpha and is a often cumbersome to use and requires tricks and polling to get right. The Semaphore Classic had a concept of a "server", now there are only promotions so coordinating deployments of multiple projects to the same place can be tricky. Semaphore is suitable for our business use cases as we effectively carry out builds, spin up instance deployments and run them in a real-time Prod environment. Even if a build stage fails, we can easily find the issue and initiate a rebuild once we resolve it. What do you dislike about Semaphore? All the core features offered by Semaphore are excellent for our organization's deployments. It's also relatively affordable when it comes to the pricing standards and once we get used to its intuitive dashboard, we can go for advanced pricing plans. What problems is Semaphore solving and how is that benefiting you? We work on preparing deployments using Ansible in our production environment and Semaphore helps us by pacing up the SDLC with its Task Templates. Based on our customer requirements, we use predefined Task Templates to perform deployments within our deadlines. We also set up our automated deployments with its Tag-Trigger feature which efficiently tracks all new tagged commits in our repository as we work with various collaborative teams. We compose all our conditions in declarative scripts & when all our pipeline tests get passed, the entire workflow gets triggered for obtaining its corresponding tag. The pipelines are quite easy to set up from a yaml file, and since y it's code, you can do a lot of things. The Secret sections is pretty useful, and updating those from the CLI is super easy. I would score the integration with github at 90%. We had some of our projects broken after the owner account of some of them was deactivated, but as said before, the support fixed it pretty quickly. Storing the secret tokens, passwords, etc. Running custom pipelines for PRs and after merges. Semaphore is very easy to set up. It is also easy to set up dependencies between blocks in the workflow I particularly like how easy it is to auto-promote jobs, such as deployments, as part of a CI pipeline. You will need to use the Semaphore CLI to change specific settings, such as configuring status checks in GitHub. We use Semaphore as the CI for Codehaus Cargo, a thin wrapper that allows you to manipulate various type of application containers (Java EE and others) in a standard way. The main challenge with Codehaus Cargo is that it supports TENS of different application containers, which then implies that "proper" automated testing would take hours on a single developer's machine - An unreasonable effort for people who just want to contribute freely to an open source project. Thanks for Semaphore CI, all our integration tests run regularly on these tens of containers, which have their own Java versions and specifics, all very nicely covered by Semaphore CI! In addition, the Github \<-\> Semaphore CI integration implies that all contributors very quickly see if any of their PRs cause issues in Codehaus Cargo, and can hence fix things themselves.
