"A must have tool for modern data stack and implementing data governance practises"

What do you like best about Select Star?

Select Star gives the best view of data lineage for all the connected tools.

Another important feature was for documenting the metrics and summary which is very useful if multiple teams are working across the company.

The popularity of tables is a very nice feature to determine the most commonly queried table and most commonly used dashboard. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Select Star?

There are no major dislikes that we came while working with Select Star Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Review of SelectStar"
4/5
What do you like best about Select Star?

As a developer, selectstar has been really helpful in understanding what tables and columns people are using. This makes deprecation of columns and tables or migrations run more smoothly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Select Star?

I think there could be some enhancements on column popularity . Currently, if a table is part of a join, its not included in the popularity. This is misleading because not all tables are part of Select * from table queries. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Nearly all the data discovery needs met"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Select Star?

- each table's info and column description can be edited without having to update a yaml

- better search for Mode than Mode itself

- lineage for individual tables and columns used in queries, it's very helpful to find common ways to use the data

- easy system to claim tables, add details, tags, etc. doesn't feel bureaucratic by design.

- friendly support for issues and has a mechanism to upvote product suggestions Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Select Star?

- right clicking columns leads you to lineage page when you just want to copy to clipboard

- URL pattern uses table IDs instead of db names, table names, and column names. If a colleague shares a link with you, you will not know what it's for, and you cannot just alter a URL to get to the right subpage

- lack of sample data for each table, leading to needing to query it to preview data or find an existing example query Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Data Cataloguing, Discoverability and Governance on steroids using Select Star"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Select Star?

Select Star provides a great variety of tools and integrations for Data Discovery and Cataloguing, with a high sophistication level. The main features that I found the most helpful for my everyday work are:

1. The multilevel search on tables, columns, schemas, tags etc, multiple sources (Snowflake, Tableau)

2. The Column level lineage views.

3. The automated integration with Snowflake for documentation purposes.

4. A very simple process for tagging multiple resource objects such as columns, tables, and dashboards.

5. The ability to choose which source object I want to sync with Select Star, and which I don't. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Select Star?

Since Select star is a recently established Start-up that is trying to take a share in a very antagonistic market, it's inevitable to have a lot of space for improvement. From my point of view, the section that I would like to invest more in is the APIs. Currently, there is a big variety of functionalities and feature which is exposed from their APIs but I believe it needs a redesign, in terms of API Standards and Authentication and Authorization, in order to be safer and easier for a partner to integrate multiple automated processes with Select Star. "A Great Data Catalog for your Modern Data Platform"
5/5
What do you like best about Select Star?

Select Star is a great data catalog that helps us discover our most important data. The best parts are the seamless integration with Snowflake (our use case) and the support from Select Star's team. Furthermore, Select Star is a fully interoperable tool, it has an API that anyone can utilize to insert/extract information, and it automatically maps the documentation from the source. Last but not least, Select Star is cheap for what it offers, and the team is always there to help with your specific needs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Select Star?

So far, there isn't anything I dislike. There is a constant development of features that cover more and more needs, but the most important features of a Data Catalog are already there. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"SelectStar helps our team learn our data model quickly and easily without needing hundreds of docs"
5/5
What do you like best about Select Star?

I really love SelectStar's popular joins feature. With many fields named differently and tribal knowledge being a large storage space for the best way to join different tables, it makes it easier for me to figure out how to join two different tables without having to interrupt other folks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Select Star?

I wish we could have SelectStar sync in our data from every single data pipeline. It's so helpful, that I'd like it available in even more areas of the business. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Quick time to Analysis. Responsive Team."
4.5/5
What do you like best about Select Star?

For us, it was the integration with the tools that we have in our data platform. They had native integrations so it was super quick to integrate and start using Select Star. They are also super responsive in the Slack Channel and quick to resolve issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Select Star?

There are still some features that may not be there compared to some of the bigger rival products, but they are pushing out new features at an awesome clip and I think they will begin to start closing that gap. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
