I have used a few different apps in this space (Klevu, Sobooster, Shopify Search & Discovery, etc) on both BigCommerce and Shopify. For search, Searchanise is my favorite product so far. Their filtering / category page experience is also pretty good.

I appreciate that Searchanise makes it easy to exclude irrelevant from their index so that you don't get billed. Setup is very easy. There are lots of customization options like synonyms. Their support has also been very helpful.

When I was using Searchanise on BigCommerce I did have a couple issues:

1. It was difficult to implement custom sort orders on a category by category basis. Support was helpful, but it seemed like their were some limitations with what could be achieved due to how BigCommerce works.

2. I experienced some intermittent loading / timeout issues when Searchanise was powering category pages. Category pages would time out occasionally, seemingly randomly. I am no longer using BigCommerce or the Searchanise category page functionality, so I'm unsure if this is a BC-specific or ongoing issue.

Searchanise was easy to set up and gives my store much better search functionality than it had before. I've been using it for over a year now and I'm very happy with it. In the past, I would search for a product on our storefront and it would sometimes return irrelevant results, or would be missing the correct results. Searchanise seems to have solved that. It works really well and it also looks great. I like the preview results that come up when you start typing, as well. I think it's a much better experience for our customers.

The same applies to collection pages, which also have restricted styling options — that’s why we can’t use this feature.
