Scout's UI is intuitive, and the app provides the visibility we need into our Rails app's performance over time. Scout makes good use of modern web visualization tools to present data in ways that are easy to understand and interpret. A particularly valuable feature is the ability to compare performance from two different time periods of varying length. The alerts function lets us set up fine-grained notifications when certain metrics aren't in the ranges we like. This is really helpful. Scout's pricing is affordable for a small SAAS business like mine — the cost-benefit versus other providers of similar services is a slam-dunk. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It would be great if Scout offered a longer look-back period than 7 days. It can sometimes be a little slow to process query requests, but given the scope of data analyzed that's pretty understandable. The app does seem to hold more data than simply "the past seven days", but you can only see that much data at once. There are of course tools that provide finer-grained or larger-scale performance data analysis, but they are priced exponentially higher than Scout, and often feature per-server based pricing rather than Scout's simple and predictable request-volume-based pricing. I used Scout APM to diagnose slow endpoints. It shows queries and how long each of them took. which helps finding bottlenecks. It is very UI friendly and shows the exact lines of code for where things took place. It also shows response time and throughput graph for each endpoint to easily spot if there is anything that is out of ordinary. Also, It shows metrics across all the transaction for each endpoint which is very helpful (Shows average total time for each transactions and the percentage of the time consumed for that endpoint). In addition to identifying or diagnose slow endpoints. It is very useful tool to diagnose the presence of N + 1 queries. It has n + 1 insight which analyzes the application for N + 1 queries consuming over 150 ms. This also brings you to exact line of code where it is happening (with backtraces) and also shows the sql query for the backtrace. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It would be nice to have more customizable time for filtering. In comparison to new relics where you can set start and end time, scout only let you to select 7 days max. This is not too bad. We usually are not interested in too much data anyways. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I find the n+1 insights, slow query insights, and Rails-specific breakdowns of response times (e.g., time spent by ActiveRecord vs. views, etc.) to be particularly useful when I'm trying to diagnose performance bottlenecks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I find myself still using additional services to monitor performance of non-Rails-specific things, such as New Relic to monitor the performance of my AWS infrastructure and Sentry to monitor exceptions. (But then again, if Scout were to expand its scope into monitoring more layers too quickly, it might approach the "jack of all trades, master of none" sort of territory, so I don't necessarily think they should rush to do all the things that New Relic does.) Scout allows you to see data however you need it. Whether you define endpoints as slow based on their total time consumed across the app or by response time, Scout easily lets you sort and filter accordingly. Digging into one endpoint, you can then see the details of a specific trace to see what kind of n+1 queries you have or what aspects of the request were slowest. This might be something that I just haven't dug into setting up, but it'd be nice if additional context about a request (like number of users in a firm) could help provide insight into what is "normal" or "expected" to provide insight into outliers. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Very handy dashboard, helps you spot anomalies quickly like a bigger response time or crazy N+1 queries. Setup is really quick and easy, it integrates nicely with PHP/Laravel. The simplicity to use in Rails applications. We didn't make any changes to our codebase and the tool was capable of get detailed metrics and show in a clear way. In a microsservice architecture like ours, helps a lot with requests info and background jobs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I had a specific case where half of the time spent on the request was not categorized and show as AutoInstrument. This don't happens often but it's hard to debug without any kind of information of where to look. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What is there to say about ScoutAPM, it is a very friendly and always replies to queries promptly, the UI of the product is quite intuitive and in addition to that we were offered a demo in order to better understand how to best squeeze the most out of it. Definitely in the short amount of time that we've used it, it has already proven it's usefulness by giving us the opportunity to see part of the platform which were not performing up to the standard we expected, making it easier for us to make them better.

I would definitely recommend ScoutAPM, as I did with my boss, to everyone who is willing to have a better understanding of what is happening under the hood even out of office hours.

We haven't been users for long, and so far we haven't found anything we don't like Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Being able to view the details of all the traces of a single endpoint and breaking down each trace (view, SQL, Redis, etc.) is very helpful. The slowest parts of your system can be found very quickly and effortlessly with Scout APM, which is essential to be able to do for a growing software business.

Additionally, I like that the dashboard is filled with a helpful interactive graph over a selectable time range. This makes finding new bottlenecks even faster. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The traces page should have far more options for filtering, and you should be able to search for traces with the slowest AVERAGE time, not just the slowest traces overall.

Additionally, it would be nice if there were easy ways to get additional details about slow areas of code -- for example, rather than knowing a "view" takes 50% of execution time, break down the parts of the view which take long. In other words, we would like more integration with our actual code in order to get more detailed information from the Scout dashboard. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
