"Great Rails Integration"
4/5
What do you like best about Scout Monitoring?

I love how they have closely integrated Rails into the whole tool. Features such as the slow query and N+1 query suggestions are great to have. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scout Monitoring?

They do not support JRuby. I've had to migrate a few apps away from them because of this. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Hayley Keith of Scout Monitoring

Hi Michael,

Thank you for the review! Our APM monitoring tool is built in Rails - so it’s the best on the market for Ruby apps…..we are glad you love the performance insights and suggestions we provide in our solution.

"Simple and effective monitoring for our Rails application"
5/5
What do you like best about Scout Monitoring?

Scout has helped us on many occasions by alerting us to performance probems before they become a major issue. When issues do come up, it helps us to pinpoint the exact problem so we can resolve it quickly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scout Monitoring?

The transaction limit means we need to sample requests to remain below the threshold. It would be nice to have higher transaction limits (perhaps with a lower retention time?) so we don't miss out on tracking important requests. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Hayley Keith of Scout Monitoring

Hi Tim - we are happy to hear Scout helps you avoid any major performance issues and troubleshoot quickly!

Our customer success team can reach out to craft a custom plan with one of our 15th-anniversary promotions so that you don’t need to sample down to get access to all the insights you need. We love working with our customers to create flexible options that enable them to monitor all important requests.

"Maybe the best APM offer out there for Ruby on Rails"
5/5
What do you like best about Scout Monitoring?

I love that I can have both APM and errors in the same application. One service to rule them all! Their UX is splendid and always a pleasure to work with and the level of detail (insight) is spot on! As for the errors, they also are following that same high quality UX where things are easy to reason about. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scout Monitoring?

I honestly have no complaints, perhaps if I were able to make a wish, I'd wish for infrastructure monitoring. For now, however, it is more than enough to be able to trace everything in my app, see slow queries etc. System resource usage is the only thing thing that I don't have insight into. "Great APM Solution for Rails Apps"
5/5
What do you like best about Scout Monitoring?

- Easy to set up and use.

- You can start analyzing your worst performance endpoints within minutes after installing it.

- When it's correctly instrumented it really helps to narrow down the specific chunks of code causing bad performance.

- Works great with Rails applications

- Dashboard is really helpful in terms of showing just the things you need Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scout Monitoring?

- Enabling background jobs analysis consumes a lot of plan's usage

- Data stops being collected if the usage surpasses the limits of the plan after a few days (even after those days the average usage decreases)

- If you are unaware your data is not being collected anymore your data is lost, difficulting debugging events in that time frame.

- API is somewhat limited. Ex: To extract data and build custom reports. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Call aggregation feature offered by Scout APM is useful for our database calls recording & backtrace"
4/5
What do you like best about Scout Monitoring?

Scout APM is a fully automated platform to obtain a brief picture of our application performances in our Prod & Non-Prod environments thanks to its transactions visibility, reporting and user interface.

It carries on various in-built tools & features that simply require one-click gestures to obtain insights.

It is also best when it comes to analyzing certain bottlenecks of our applications once we get to know that a customer is facing an issue.

We effectively identify those incidents and perform RCA for resolving the difficulties faced by our customers through Scout APM's performance insights. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scout Monitoring?

Since plenty of features are provided by Scout APM, an intermediate experience level with hands-on is required for working effectively on its platform.

It may seem overwhelming to start with its features but as we progress, we got adapted to it and we figured best practices offered by Scout APM o find the problem areas in our application.

Further improvements can be made to its Dashboard so that it can accustom new users & offer convenience to them while handling evaluations using Scout APM. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great for quickly identifying issues in performance"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Scout Monitoring?

Easy to digest dashboards and in depth metrics for Ruby/Rails applications (N+1, memory bloat, etc). Their database query performance tracker is great to relate issues back to traces. Easy to figure out what endpoints / change in endpoint behavior can cause issues or started causing issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scout Monitoring?

We've had some issues getting individual of our most used endpoints making the tool a little less useful for that type of analysis. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great for monitoring performance and deploys"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Scout Monitoring?

I like being able to see the graph of performance over time and being able to compare different time periods. This allows me to monitor the performance of a certain page/request before and after deploying changed.

I also really like the N+1 queries callouts to help me notice and fix performance bottlenecks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scout Monitoring?

Sometimes the traces aren't the most detailed and don't tell me the SQL or line causing an issue Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"How I benefit from ScoutAPM on legacy code"
5/5
What do you like best about Scout Monitoring?

Break down on tracing and resource usage. Especially when working on legacy architecture. Fixing and pointing to leakage is a different beast on itself. Implementing scout APM help me with that. Ease of implementing and wide support mean it is easy to setup and modify. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Scout Monitoring?

No clear legend on graph color when comparing improvement. Once I spent quite a time figure out if the fix improve things or make things worse. Separate graph for different concern will also help a lot. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
