"Straightforward and simple ELN"
4/5
What do you like best about SciNote?

Scinote is simple to use and not over complicated, which is great for a small team. The user interface is good and organized. All of our major needs are met by this ELN and it easily integrated into our daily routine. The SciNote support team is attentive and works quickly to resolve issues. What do you dislike about SciNote?

The workflow overview could use some additional zoom and customization options, especially in the card view. The navigator could use some sorting options. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Scinote as a record taking platform"
4.5/5
What do you like best about SciNote?

It has a lot of features and is user friendly offering multiple ways to take notes - adding in detailed protocols ahead of time or adding notes as scans/attachments. We have also had a good expereience with customer support and were able to have a couple of detailed training sessions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SciNote?

We would appreciate integration to take hand written notes and inegration with project management platforms such as Airtable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Best LIMS/ELN for our process"
5/5
What do you like best about SciNote?

My company uses SciNote for all of our operations on a daily basis. It's very intuitive and simple to use. Very streamlined. Great for keeping track of inventory, as well as keeping notes on procedures. I love that there's a template to include SOPs. It was also easy to get my technician trained on how to use the ELN and inventory. Integration and setup was also awesome with the help of the implementation team. Whenever I have a question, customer support is always there to help. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SciNote?

I wish the mobile app had more functionality like the desktop app. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Would recommend SciNote as first choice for anyone looking for ELN"
5/5
What do you like best about SciNote?

The organization and layout of the ELN is much better than anything I've previously used before. The ability to do inventory, store protocol and assign tasks to the lab saved us a lot of time and kept things on track through multiple simultaneous projects. We transitioned from Sharepoint to SciNote without too much trouble. Now it's an essential part of our daily lab work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SciNote?

There is definitely a learning curve associated when transitioning to SciNote, but their support team helps you get there in short time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Modern electronic lab book with good project management"
4/5
What do you like best about SciNote?

SciNotes UI is very appealing, simple to use and gives a great overview at any time. Projects can be set up, managed and distributed easily. The customer support is always ready to help with documentations and short videos. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SciNote?

The inventory lacks a spatial overview which can help to locate samples more easily. The app is rather simple and does not yet allow to use the inventory or do major edits. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Solid ELN for labs that want to transition to digital record-keeping"
3.5/5
What do you like best about SciNote?

Best aspects of SciNote:

-They have a variety of text and upload options for what type of information you want to take note of. For example you can write out text in their text box and paste in images or add tables just as you would on a Word document or you can use their Protocol section to structure your procedural steps and add images/files/table as attachments.

-It is easy to use the SciNote ELN on a tablet connected to the internet. The interface doesn't get too distorted so for a bench scientist transitioning from paper notebook to using SciNote on a tablet is an easier obstacle to overcome. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SciNote?

Shortcomings:

-I think SciNote's capacity to handle large images is low. Sometimes my data will not load properly on the Results tab.

-The interface for a new user gets some getting used to. It would be great if they had the note taking space look like a lab notebook, just like a sheet of paper where you can type and insert items wherever you want (this would be the most like a physical notebook). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Theresa Liao of SciNote

Hello. Thank you for your review of SciNote!

Hosting large images is something that we (and perhaps many other ELN providers?) are still tackling. One thing many users do is to host these images on a separate server and add a link to the file in SciNote. Also, we recently launched SciNote Edit, a desktop app that you can use to open file attachments directly in their default desktop program. This could help alleviate the issue of not loading images quickly/properly inside the Results tab. (see Resource URL for more info!).

As for having a notebook-like environment, SciNote is designed to have a little bit of structure to ensure we can capture notes in an organized way. We do understand users' need to jot down things quickly - in such cases, we recommend the following so that the notes will still be organized and searchable.

1. Utilise the 'New Task' Quick link. This button from the Dashboard will lead you to the task page in the least number of clicks. You can use this Task as a notepad.

2. If you'd like a more organised approach to note-taking, you can create a standalone Task and name it 'Notes'. That way, notes are characterised by Experiment.

3. Another option is to use Inventories. You can create an inventory for Notes. Or you can include a new item called 'Notes' and include a Word file in a column of the type File. You can open this Word file in Word for Web and edit it on the go.

Make sure to utilise the # smart annotation to add a hyperlink when mentioning a Project/ Experiment/ Task of interest. This will ensure traceability.

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to your CSM since our CSMs usually have a lot of tips and tricks to share with the users.

Thank you again for choosing SciNote!
