One must always state that students will always pass the deadline, and I agree, but since I have been using it, it has helped a lot with management. 2- Log of everything: You can keep a record of everything that is done, from changes to the protocol, that usually were written on that paper that you cannot find any more to the stock of consumables, that "no one noticed they were almost over" 3-The easy access from everywhere to the work that they are doing on the moment. **What do you dislike about SciNote?** Personally, I don't like that they can generate almost written reports because they can use it as their final report, but at the same time, most of the time, I use it to understand better what has been done, and it comes completely. **What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?** The integration of all the information in one place, is the best thing that it does. New features are added regularly to address user feedback. One of the biggest is the lack of code blocks, which make it a lot easier to navigate. For general users there is also the lack of sub-page functionality and not even a dark mode option. As a small business owner, I feel like the team has supported me through some really challenging time with my business. The team also checks in regularly with personal emails and asking if any assistance is needed. I love all the features that are avaiable in SciNote. When we were in an active research phase, we utilized SciNote every day to record data. SciNote was easy to use and it was easy to set up templates for research associates. SciNote integrated seemlessly into our workflow; the team provides opportunities for training, the web interface is easy to use and there is plenty of assistance for carrying out actions. **What do you dislike about SciNote?** I have not yet explored or implemented all of the features that SciNote provides and so that is really too bad. I am also interested in better integrating data flow from SciNote into our data processing and analytics routines, but have not explored this either. Customer support is very active in addressing any problems or concerns we've had. Its definitely improved the communication flow in the lab! **What do you dislike about SciNote?** There were some growing pains in trying to learn how to share data effectively from Scinote with outside parties. While you can export experiments as a .pdf or share an external link to data hosted on scinote, you can't export a permanent file (as opposed to giving a link) in a way that lets an outside viewer see connected files such as excel docs without also having a scinote account. A minor concern, but one I hope is improved in a future update! **What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?** Lab commbunication, finding relevant data from past experiments, lab inventory management, database management, communicating data across different departments. ### 22. Keeping things organized is very easy. Customer support is also great, with prompt responses. **What do you dislike about SciNote?** I wish there was a more specific lab notebook section. For example, Benchling has a fantastic version of this. There is even a way to incorporate timers into the notebook section. We would definitely be using it more frequently across the board if it had this. Instead it's sort of an annoying task that has to be completed at the end of the week. Many people in the lab still prefer writing in physical notebooks for this reason. We bought into using the printer and labels for inventory and quickly figured out that it's useless. We would need a handheld scanner to scan it and even then it only inputs the ID number of the item. The way it was marketed to us made it seem that we could scan the QR code with our phone to pull up information in a notes app (or something similar). Definitely the most useless offering on SciNote that we have found. **What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?** The inventory is helpful as is the ability to pull a protocol into a project ### 23. I find SciNote's interface very easy to use. I like that SciNote offers an intuitive, changeable layout. SciNote also makes the approval flow very easy to access and view. **What do you dislike about SciNote?** I have set up times and dates for tasks in SciNote, and I would like reminders to begin arriving 1 month before the tasks are due. I have set the date range for the project to start 1 month before the task is due, but still reminders will only arrive shortly before the final due date. I use SciNote to track the calibration status of instruments. This requires me to keep an inventory of instruments, and to set up projects for instrument calibration. When calibration is performed, I upload any relevant documents to a task, and I create another task for the instrument's next calibration. I must also change the task tag in the inventory and update the calibration date in the inventory. I wish that this could be done with fewer steps. **What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?** SciNote is helping my team to organize QC data for my review. Sometimes my data will not load properly on the Results tab. -The interface for a new user gets some getting used to. Because we may see a flux in personnel in the research team, we want to make sure that everyone (especially Leadership) knows what experiments have been tested, by whom, and what the raw results look like. Our research team is also cross functional with the computational group and we have had challenges getting the comp team data at a regular cadence so they can do the downstream processing and visualization. We've implemented an ELN in hopes of streamlining this data passing step and ensuring everyone is sharing their experimental observations and data in a transparent manner. Thank you for your review of SciNote! Hosting large images is something that we (and perhaps many other ELN providers?) are still tackling. One thing many users do is to host these images on a separate server and add a link to the file in SciNote. Also, we recently launched SciNote Edit, a desktop app that you can use to open file attachments directly in their default desktop program. This could help alleviate the issue of not loading images quickly/properly inside the Results tab. (see Resource URL for more info!). As for having a notebook-like environment, SciNote is designed to have a little bit of structure to ensure we can capture notes in an organized way. We do understand users' need to jot down things quickly - in such cases, we recommend the following so that the notes will still be organized and searchable. 1. Utilise the 'New Task' Quick link. This button from the Dashboard will lead you to the task page in the least number of clicks. You can use this Task as a notepad. 2. If you'd like a more organised approach to note-taking, you can create a standalone Task and name it 'Notes'. That way, notes are characterised by Experiment. 3. Another option is to use Inventories. You can create an inventory for Notes. Or you can include a new item called 'Notes' and include a Word file in a column of the type File. You can open this Word file in Word for Web and edit it on the go. Make sure to utilise the # smart annotation to add a hyperlink when mentioning a Project/ Experiment/ Task of interest. I also haven't found an efficient way to jump to the subset of templates that I have authored, bypassing others. The default level of zooming, when I look at a workflow, is such that navigation panes take up most of my screen, with only about a third of the screen left for the experiment itself. While I understand the need for automatic timestamping, it would be helpful to me if it were possible to display alternative timestamps that more accurately reflect when the work was done, in cases where a protocol is performed over a series of days and I only update SciNote at the end. It would be great if SciNote could be automatically integrated with software like Airtable. **What problems is SciNote solving and how is that benefiting you?** SciNote keeps my data organized in a way that makes it possible for me to find the final version of whatever I'm looking for. There is a "published by" filter available, where you can specify the author of the protocol template. - Can also consider using the "keywords" field within the protocol template Re: Zooming, workflow, and navigation - Consider closing the navigator to allow more space for the workflow area. We might need to see how you use the interface to provide better suggestions; feel free to contact your CSM about this! Re: automatic time stamping & alternative - We would suggest marking each step as complete on each day that you complete it. Many of our users have found this quite helpful for them to track what's completed and keep them on top of the tasks. - Other options are to come back at the end of the experiment and write down in the text editor the date each step was completed, or add the time the step is completed to each step. As the timestamp functionality is tied with the integrity of the audit trail, we will not be able to enable the ability to edit timestamps or input alternative timestamps.
