Using as a PM (mainly Gantt's and reports) is quick and easy. Using as a Resource Manager (track people, time, holidays, training etc...) also simple. The reports are excellent and enable Project and Resource tracking and management across the portfolio. **What do you dislike about Planview ProjectAdvantage?** Still using V5 and the presentation of the reports could be better (think this has been sorted in V7 with the move to HTML). We use in conjunction with Tableau right now as the Tableau front end allows a slightly easier manipulation / presentation of data. But when we move to V7 I expect that we will simply revert to using Sciforma again. We use this in conjunction with JIRA Agile as I feel that is simpler / easier at tracking both bugs / issues plus Agile user stories. Would have been nice to have not needed this but that ship has sailed now. **Recommendations to others considering Planview ProjectAdvantage:** Sciforma is a great tool and can be as flexible as you need. The temptation is to just overlay Sciforma onto your current process (and it will almost certainly do that), but you should map out your process AS IS and then FUTURE STATE (ie how you want the process to look) before implementing / migrating. **What problems is Planview ProjectAdvantage solving and how is that benefiting you?** Project, Portfolio and Resource Management Enabled us to have clear and simple data for all Project Managers and Resource Managers to track and manage their projects and teams. PMs pull data directly from Sciforma into monthly project review presentations. Sciforma also enabled us to track and manage the portfolio. We use the data to create simple but powerful dashboards to show all Project progress across the Portfolio. ### 2. Happy user of Sciforma for many years, this product has grown with us **Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** January 16, 2017 **What do you like best about Planview ProjectAdvantage?** You have the ability to customise virtually all aspects of Sciforma to suite the way you operate. There are also standard add ons which provide extra functionality. This mix of standard and cusomisation was important to the way we wanted to start our journey with Sciforma. **What do you dislike about Planview ProjectAdvantage?** When we started out there were not many add ons but they have come a long way since then. This has left us with a bit of a dilemma as we would like to use the add ons to replace out heavy customization. It's a lot of work but we think tis will be valuable to us. **Recommendations to others considering Planview ProjectAdvantage:** Sciforma Support and maintenance access to your database so they can help you. This can be problematic if you host the software and your IT people have issues with confidential information leaving the building. Get customised training from Sciforma it's worth the time and effort and helps users with acceptance of a new system. I would suggest looking at a big bang approach when looking at rolling this out to your user base as this helps weed out issues and problems sooner rather than later. Given the choice again I would have opted for a cloud based version and not hot it ourselves. **What problems is Planview ProjectAdvantage solving and how is that benefiting you?** We had a mix of various spreadsheets and Microsoft project but could not link actuals easily, look at the portfolio as a whole or manage resource. We have now achieved this and manage and plan on various levels of resource and project. ### 3. I have been able to make very minor configurations and we limp along. **What do you dislike about Planview ProjectAdvantage?** The Java tool is very hard to configure. It is not intuitive. There are no user manuals. The search system for the Knowledge Base is frustrating and a waste of time. v7.0 is a vast improvement from v5.0 but compared to other tools in the market (HP, MS Server, Clarity) its not even in the same league. Top 10 dislikes: Scheduler, restricted to assigning resources to tasks instead of projects, system is total effort based instead of planned vs. actuals, un-editable dashboards, working vs. published, token system.... **Recommendations to others considering Planview ProjectAdvantage:** Not recommended **What problems is Planview ProjectAdvantage solving and how is that benefiting you?** We primarily use Sciforma for Resource Management. We do not use the RAM work space. We have managed to get our resources allocated and use the Resource Allocation report. We use the time reporting extension. ### 4. Version 7 has made recent updates that put back functionality initially lost in 7 that existed in 5 and 6. We want to get to 7 soon. We should have had it hosted for us. **What problems is Planview ProjectAdvantage solving and how is that benefiting you?** We used Sciforma to combine project scheduling, timesheet, tracking issues and risks and reporting into one system. This has saved project managers administration time, but also provides much more data that we in turn make business decisions off of. ### 6. It's a powerful tool if people are trained right on using it. **What do you dislike about Planview ProjectAdvantage?** It's got a lot of functionality, which can be confusing to a lot of the users, so it requires a lot set up and training. There's definitely a learning curve with the software. **Recommendations to others considering Planview ProjectAdvantage:** Definitely get trained on the tool and then roll it out to other users. The new web based version is much more user friendly than the previous versions which helps. **What problems is Planview ProjectAdvantage solving and how is that benefiting you?** Resource allocations, time tracking, Earn Value Management. Benefits - Tracking resource allocations at a high level helps to avoid project managers working silos. ### 7. I like that we can create our own reports and don't have to use standard templates. **What do you dislike about Planview ProjectAdvantage?** The version we have uses Java which we have no end of trouble with when setting up new users. It doesn't integrate with anything else i.e. our finance system therefore all entries are manual. The speed is sometimes an issue and users don't seem to like the look and feel. **Recommendations to others considering Planview ProjectAdvantage:** sue the version that does not require Java **What problems is Planview ProjectAdvantage solving and how is that benefiting you?** We didn't have any other solution for project reporting and needed to be able to track general status and risks and issues. ### 8. There were some bugs in 7.0 but we're quickly fixed. All in all nothing serious to be concerned. **What problems is Planview ProjectAdvantage solving and how is that benefiting you?** We needed an software to handle Product Portfolio Management. Something which can handle multiple users without clogging up the system. Sciforma gave us all of this and more. ### 10. It allowes you to work with resource managment, task, projects, demands and portfolios. Also, it allowes you to create your own fields in order to get the kpi you need to track your projects. So the software can adapt to any kind of project managment such as PMI, Agile and Prince2. As the software works in Html5 you could loggin to Sciforma from any kind of devices like laptops, smartphones and tables. **What do you dislike about Planview ProjectAdvantage?** It is necesary use Java for Administrator user. However, configure your browser for java is quite simple as there are many programas like firefox, opera and internet explorer. **Recommendations to others considering Planview ProjectAdvantage:** Decide your need of project Managment. Sciforma only sells what customers need in spite of other software which want to sell you a huge pack of tools. Sciforma only sells workspace your organization will use, that is why is so customized. **What problems is Planview ProjectAdvantage solving and how is that benefiting you?** Configur Sciforma for our customers in order to satisfy their needs of project managment.
