I can use it from my computer or from my phone and can quickly use most of the same features in either setting. Being able to quickly and easily manage parent contact is my favorite feature. I can call parents from my laptop while sitting and going over data, or I can quickly get out my phone, use the SchoolStatus app, and call a parent in a few clicks if I need to speak to a parent in an urgent situation. Also, I’m able to do all this without anyone having my personal contact information available to them. **What do you dislike about SchoolStatus?** The only thing I would change is that parents do not answer the phone if it is a number they don’t recognize. It would be nice if we were able to have the calls show up as a number associated with the district or at least in the local area. Sometimes it shows up as another area code completely. **Recommendations to others considering SchoolStatus:** Use it! Nothing else I have used compares to the efficiency of SchoolStatus. **What problems is SchoolStatus solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have not had any problems other than the one I mentioned above regarding the number that shows up when we call parents. The benefit is that the students realize we can quickly get in touch with parents. Sometimes the student doesn’t believe us but when I show them their mom’s name, it’s real. Then if it is a behavior issue, the student can talk to their parent as well. It tends to help in that respect as well. ### 33. I'm not sure what the parents see when they answer the phone, but knowing it is the school would be helpful with them answering the phone. I dislike having to copy and paste messages to parents. Being able to check any student's schedule at any time. **What do you dislike about SchoolStatus?** Courses were not always updated or cleaned up if students changed any part of his/her schedule. Phone numbers were also not always the same as what eschool showed. For example, the student, parent, other parent numbers were often the same. I didn't actually know who I was texting or calling. You cannot expand the email window to be able to see more than a couple lines at a time when you are typing. I usually ended up just sending mass emails through Google Classroom instead. **Recommendations to others considering SchoolStatus:** Make sure it is fully compatible with your district software. Try it on your phone as well before deciding if you like it. Show parents and students how to use it and what to expect when they receive School Status notifications so that they do not just delete them. Make sure parent/guardian/student phone numbers are accurate and up to date so that messages are not going to random numbers. **What problems is SchoolStatus solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a case manager for ELLs, I am able to better document communication, as well as, how often my students' other teachers are communicating home. Another thing that I like about SchoolStatus is that I have the option to use my phone or my laptop to call parents. I am able to keep my privacy even if I decide to use my phone because SchoolStatus provides the parent/guardian with a number for me. I like that the number is a number that the parent/guardian may use for the remainder of the school year. I can decide if and when I want to allow parents/guardians to contact me directly (without having to leave a voicemail). Lastly, SchoolStatus was so helpful in those times that I communicated with a parent whose native language is not English. I was able to translate all of my messages to a language that he/she could understand. SchoolStatus removed all the barriers of communication! **What do you dislike about SchoolStatus?** There weren't many things that I disliked about SchoolStatus. One downside that I noticed was that I there wasn't always accurate contact information for students' parents/guardians. However, I know this is more of an issue with changing the information within my school than a problem with SchoolStatus. It would be great if the number was automatically updated in SchoolStatus whenever changes are made. **Recommendations to others considering SchoolStatus:** SchoolStatus is definitely worth your time to learn about its features and utilize all of its functions. There is a wealth of information about students with just a few keystrokes. **What problems is SchoolStatus solving and how is that benefiting you?** Another benefit that I have found to SchoolStatus is the transcript for all calls and a record of number of contacts with parents/guardians. This really cuts down on the amount of time and effort to keep up with a call log for records. In a larger setting, it is hard to hold meetings with a full schedule, so being able to refer to these notes, in addition to the comment section to discuss questions we may have serves a purpose that helps me grow as a teacher year round. Having this also helps us refer to strengths and weaknesses when holding individual meetings. **What do you dislike about SchoolStatus?** Technology in general has it's moments where it does not work, and schoolstatus is not exempt from this reality. The text message feature has really alleviated any stress that used to arise whenever I reached out to parents. The parents are, generally speaking, happy to hear from me and happy that I'm making the effort to involve them before situations go too far. In times of coronavirus, the broadcast feature is great for informing all families of updates and notifications. Another aspect that is helpful is the recording feature. Whenever I call a parent through SchoolStatus, the conversation is recorded and even transcribed. This feature is wonderful for documenting and simply alleviating the reliance on memory of what was discussed and what was not discussed. **What do you dislike about SchoolStatus?** The least helpful aspects of SchoolStatus were the features that overlapped with other programs that my school had purchased: features dealing with attendance and discipline. Although I can definitely see the benefits of those features, I don't use them. Additionally, it would be helpful to know the number that is showing up for me when I text or call parents. That way, I can tell parents what number to call back instead of sharing my personal number. **Recommendations to others considering SchoolStatus:** If reaching out to parents and protecting teacher security (i.e., not disclosing personal numbers) are concerns, then I recommend SchoolStatus. It is definitely a tool worth investing in. Also, for those schools or school districts that are PBIS sites, SchoolStatus is a great tool for sharing positive feedback to parents and families. It's just as easy to share something to smile about as it is to share something to work on/correct. **What problems is SchoolStatus solving and how is that benefiting you?** SchoolStatus has definitely helped me nip behavior problems in the bud. Parents are glad that I reach out before things get out of hand. I love being able to call a parent from my phone if I need to speak to one. And I don’t even have to give them my real number! **What do you dislike about SchoolStatus?** Since I work together with all my 7th grade teachers, we each individually have to go through 140 students contacts and label the preferred contacts. I wish once one person sets the preferred contacts everyone who has access to that students contacts would already see their preferred contacts. Last year, once I figured out how to do it all, my other teachers didn’t have time to set 140 students preferred contacts, so I always sent out the messages for everyone.
