I primarily used SAS for survival analysis in my graduate studies and I found SAS to be powerful software tool that makes it easier to program and obtain the necessary standard results without extra work. Unlike other statistical programming languages like R, SAS lacks customization on inputs as well as outputs. If anybody needs to do data wrangling and do advanced statistical computing, they might find SAS limited due to the restricted environment that SAS working. The sheer statistical power of SAS is impressive. You can navigate the options to create t-tests, anovas, correlations, etc. You can also control the small details of tests, like which model you want to run. 1. SAS is excellent for dealing with (many) large datasets; I often work with datasets with over 1 million records and my code runs very quickly. 2. While it's not open forum, there's also a ton of resources for learning SAS such as the SAS Community website where a user can ask a very specific question and members respond with sample code to help you get the output you're seeking. 3. When you make a mistake coding, trying to make sense of the issue is pretty straightforward by reading the log. 4.Everything is validated before making it to the product. There is a learning curve with coding and the language itself is a little clunky; competitive products such as R can often do some of the same tasks but with more efficient syntax (i.e., ten lines in SAS to do a task can be the equivalent of two or three in R). Then again, SAS also offers SAS EG with has a point-and-click interface. I like that there are multiple ways to code for the same output, as well as how the output is displayed initially. Trial and error typically resolves any issues.
