"Centralized Sustainability Compliance and Traceability That Fits Seamlessly into SAP"

4.5/5

What do you like best about SAP Responsible Design and Production?

SAP Responsible Design and Production stands out for its strong focus on sustainability compliance and circular economy principles. I especially like how it centralizes regulatory reporting (like EPR and plastics taxes), provides clear material traceability, and integrates seamlessly with existing SAP landscapes, making it practical for real-world enterprise use rather than just theoretical sustainability tracking. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP Responsible Design and Production?

The solution can feel quite complex to set up and configure, especially for organizations without deep SAP expertise. Data readiness is also a challenge—accurate results depend heavily on having well-structured and complete material data. Additionally, the user experience isn’t always intuitive, and customization or adapting it to specific regulatory nuances can require significant effort and consulting support. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SAP Responsible Design and Production solving and how is that benefiting you?

SAP Responsible Design and Production helps solve the complexity of managing sustainability regulations like EPR, plastics taxes, and packaging compliance across multiple regions. It centralizes data, automates reporting, and ensures traceability of materials throughout the product lifecycle.

For us, this reduces manual work, lowers the risk of non-compliance penalties, and provides better visibility into product-level environmental impact. It also supports more informed decision-making around sustainable design and helps align operations with evolving regulatory requirements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"SAP RDP Makes Sustainability and Compliance Actionable Across the Product Lifecycle"

5/5

What do you like best about SAP Responsible Design and Production?

What I like best about SAP Responsible Design and Production is how it integrates sustainability directly into the product lifecycle. It gives teams clear visibility into materials, processes, and environmental impacts from the design stage onward, which helps us make informed, responsible decisions early on.

I also appreciate how it fosters collaboration across design, procurement, and production teams. By centralizing data and processes, it not only improves efficiency but ensures that responsible practices are embedded in every step of product development.

In short, SAP RDP turns sustainability and compliance from an afterthought into an actionable, measurable part of everyday product work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP Responsible Design and Production?

One challenge with SAP Responsible Design and Production is that the initial setup and data preparation can be time-consuming, especially when consolidating legacy data or aligning existing processes with RDP’s framework. It requires careful planning and cross-team coordination.

However, I see this more as an investment than a drawback—once the system is properly configured, the benefits in sustainability insights, lifecycle visibility, and team collaboration far outweigh the initial effort. The key is proper change management, training, and phased implementation to make adoption smoother. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SAP Responsible Design and Production solving and how is that benefiting you?

SAP Responsible Design and Production is solving several key challenges in our product development process:

Sustainability Tracking – It provides visibility into materials, processes, and environmental impact, helping us design products that are more sustainable and compliant with regulations.

Data and Process Integration – By centralizing data across design, procurement, and production, it reduces errors and ensures everyone is working with the same information.

Decision Support – RDP gives actionable insights early in the product lifecycle, allowing us to make informed choices about materials and processes before costly production decisions are made.

The benefits are tangible: we’re able to reduce material waste, improve compliance, accelerate collaboration between teams, and ultimately deliver products that align with both business and sustainability goals. It turns responsible design from a concept into measurable, actionable results. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful sustainability automation, but heavy implementation and dense UI"

3.5/5

What do you like best about SAP Responsible Design and Production?

Its so user friendly. The best aspect of SAP RDP is that it transforms sustainability from a vague, qualitative goal into a hard, measurable, and financially optimized business process.

Brilliant at automating complex global EPR and plastic tax calculations. The "what-if" scenario modeling is highly valuable for packaging redesigns, and the deep integration with SAP ERP provides a reliable single source of truth. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP Responsible Design and Production?

Requires absolutely perfect master data (BOMs) to function correctly. Implementation is heavy, time-consuming, and expensive. The UI is also quite dense for sustainability teams who aren't used to traditional SAP interfaces.

I am not much aware of the Customer support they have Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

2.5/5

What do you like best about SAP Responsible Design and Production?

hard at the start, but after training it becomes easy for the user, user interface still not userfreindly, I would not recommand at the moment for new uers Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP Responsible Design and Production?

1. Complexity & Learning Curve

Many users say RDP can be difficult to master, especially for teams that are new to SAP’s sustainability suite:

The interface and terminology can feel overwhelming.

Requires strong expertise in both sustainability concepts and SAP processes.

Training and onboarding take time and effort. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SAP Responsible Design and Production solving and how is that benefiting you?

SAP Responsible Design and Production solves the problem of poor visibility into product sustainability and regulatory compliance by integrating environmental impact data directly into product design and development processes. It centralizes compliance checks, automates sustainability calculations, and connects cross-functional teams using shared data and workflows. This benefits organizations by reducing compliance risks, minimizing manual errors, improving collaboration, enabling better material and design decisions, lowering costs tied to late redesigns, and strengthening market competitiveness through more transparent and sustainable products. "End-to-End Sustainability Visibility That Turns Operational Data Into Action"

5/5

What do you like best about SAP Responsible Design and Production?

End-to-end visibility across the product lifecycle — from material sourcing through manufacturing to end-of-life disposal — all within a single platform.

It directly connects sustainability goals to real operational data, so it's not just reporting for compliance, it's actionable intelligence. For someone in Strategic Sourcing and NPD, the ability to track recyclability, extended producer responsibility (EPR) obligations, and material compliance at the design stage — before a product even goes to production — is a genuine competitive differentiator. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about SAP Responsible Design and Production?

Implementation complexity and data readiness are the real pain points.

The tool is only as good as the data you feed into it, and most organizations simply aren’t set up with the clean, structured material and supplier data it requires. As a result, there’s a heavy pre-work burden before you see any meaningful value.

On top of that, the high cost of entry makes it hard to justify for mid-sized organizations. Integration with legacy ERP environments is rarely plug-and-play, even within SAP’s own ecosystem. Regulatory updates (EPR, packaging directives) can also lag behind fast-moving policy changes, which leaves compliance teams filling the gaps manually.

For Strategic Sourcing and NPD specifically, supplier-level sustainability data is often incomplete. That limits how actionable the tool really is at the design stage, where decisions matter most. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is SAP Responsible Design and Production solving and how is that benefiting you?

Core problems it solves:

1. Regulatory compliance complexity

EPR laws, packaging regulations, and sustainability mandates are multiplying globally. SAP RDP centralizes compliance tracking so I’m not stuck managing it in spreadsheets across siloed teams.

2. Sustainability blind spots at the design stage

Most companies make material and packaging decisions without real data on environmental impact. RDP brings that data upstream—into NPD—where it can actually influence decisions and change outcomes.

3. Disconnected sourcing and sustainability goals

Procurement and sustainability teams have historically operated in parallel rather than together. RDP helps bridge that gap by giving both sides shared, consistent data.

How it benefits me directly:

In Strategic Sourcing, it gives me more leverage in supplier conversations. I can quantify recyclability, recycled content, and EPR cost implications before a contract is signed, not after.

In NPD, it means sustainability isn’t a late-stage checkbox. It becomes a design input, which helps reduce costly redesigns and supports faster time to market.

The biggest benefit overall is that it shifts sustainability from a reporting function to a sourcing and design discipline—exactly where the highest-impact decisions are made. That alignment between doing good and doing smart business is what makes it worth the investment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
