I have used business objects for over 2.5 years now. It is great tool for scripting and developing reports. It has easy drag and drop options to select what variable you want in your final report. If you have large number of facilities and have data stored in multiple universes, it allows you to create a combined query and get final report from multiple universes. You can send your scripts to other Individuals within your team/ For any recurring reports you can schedule them and they run whenever you've set them to run. I feel like it has some capability for visualizations but definitely lacks uniqueness and intuitiveness that other visualization tools have. In addition the process of exporting reports is quite time consuming and this is something that can be improved so it becomes more user friendly. The final reports can improve on their filter-ability so it is easier for the user to review only specific data in a more time-efficient manner. Business objects allows you to view the actual SQL script that is run for the your customized report but at times it has different names for the tables that it links to in the data warehouse which at times makes it difficult to cross validate if you want find the associated tables in your data warehouse. The reporting feature and the ability to add any level of data to a report is fantastic. the amount of reports now available for metrics and the detail within each is much improved from our last system. Each action is broken down to the most minute detail. Adding a sales rep to workbench? That will take 15 steps/clicks. Adding trim to a new customer that will take 2 systems and 45 steps. Everything takes much more time because even the slightest 'action' has been broken down in to its own step. Enter data into the system relies heavily on internet speed and the amount of users on the system at a given time. Get in early? Fantastic the system will run well for you. As soon as 9 AM hit all users nation wide are using the system and there is a dramatic decrease in speed. Want to get something accomplished after lunch? You need to time it correctly because EVERYONE get kicked off at 1:15 and if you didn't save your work or mark as in process then that is potentially hours wasted. BO has multiple components tailored to each business need. We have Crystal reports for picture perfect reports for printing & mailing, we have Web Intelligence reporting for data analysis and ad-hoc reporting. Universe will provide better control of data restrictions, security profile implementation etc. There are hundreds of features brought in or improved over the previous versions. It is tough to master the tool and the help document is not big to explore. The formula editor is not user friendly. Too many features and categorization of the features confuse the business user who want to do ad-hoc reporting by himself. I know it is more of a older generation of BI product but it does do the work. You can generate reports and store them in different folders pretty easily, and it's comparatively easy to do updates so there are relatively less down time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
