## SAP Asset Performance Management Reviews
  ### 1. Proactive, Predictive Maintenance with SAP Asset Performance Management

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arkajit D. | Chief Technology Officer, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 12, 2026

**What do you like best about SAP Asset Performance Management?**

What I enjoy most about SAP Asset Performance Management is its transition towards more proactive and predictive decision-making regarding maintenance.

For instance, in one of the operational environments related to the field of healthcare, critical equipment responsible for diagnostics at different locations experienced downtime caused by degradation in equipment's performance that was detected during scheduled maintenances. Thus, by implementing SAP Asset Performance Management, operations specialists gained the opportunity to track and monitor equipment performance and detect abnormal patterns, allowing the team to predict when maintenance would be necessary.

In this case, what I enjoyed the most was the opportunity for integrating operations and maintenance workflows, which allowed increasing the efficiency of collaboration among operations specialists, maintenance personnel, and even management in the process of equipment maintenance.

Another example involves an operational environment of fintech companies with specific requirements concerning the physical infrastructure required for processing payments. For instance, such assets as power supply system and network equipment should have reliable uptimes to ensure the continuity of operations. Thus, by utilizing SAP APM, companies can increase the visibility of assets, making maintenance processes even more predictable and less prone to errors.

**What do you dislike about SAP Asset Performance Management?**

A key challenge related to the use of SAP Asset Performance Management involves the complexity of implementing the software, particularly in environments where there is fragmented information about assets, inconsistencies within the data or systems, and legacy systems that need to be integrated into the SAP system.

In one particular environment where this software was implemented for the purposes of healthcare, the records for maintenance of diagnostics equipment, facilities infrastructure, and operational devices were kept separately in other systems or even in manual files by different departments. Despite the excellent long-term vision offered by the software, the effort and time that needed to be invested in integrating all the necessary information into the software, such as asset hierarchy and maintenance history, was far more significant than had been estimated.

**What problems is SAP Asset Performance Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SAP Asset Performance Management addresses the serious problem associated with unexpected equipment failure, disjointed maintenance monitoring, and poor maintenance management in enterprise settings.

For example, in a healthcare-related operational environment, diagnostic machines and related infrastructures in various establishments were monitored and managed via regular maintenance activities, manual spreadsheet tracking, and ad-hoc reporting. In such an environment, the problem was that equipment deterioration could only be detected when there were already signs of impact on patient diagnostics and other processes, hence causing delays and increasing downtime. By adopting SAP Asset Performance Management, organizations can gain better visibility into asset health and maintenance intelligence and, in turn, detect patterns of risk early enough to initiate preventive maintenance efforts before failures occur.

One of the greatest advantages of adopting SAP Asset Performance Management is reliability and effective maintenance planning. For instance, maintenance would no longer have to rely on a set schedule but rather on conditions and risks, thus avoiding over-maintenance of healthy equipment while ensuring that important machinery receives attention before failing.

**What do you like best about SAP Asset Performance Management?**

I use SAP Asset Performance Management to validate and execute the full lifecycle of our assets and for the best maintenance tasks, which saves both costs and time and provides a lot of efficiency. I really like that I can see our assets in different diagrams, even georeferentially, and I can compare the information in real-time within the dashboards that the application provides and through SAC and Analytics Planning. I think the service is excellent because by having a roadmap and guidelines along with the complete lifecycle, we have significantly reduced the costs and execution times of our assets.

**What do you dislike about SAP Asset Performance Management?**

What could be improved is the native integration with Service Assets Management, because somehow when executing certain tasks, part of the configuration we have made gets broken, which has led us to spend a lot of time on consultancy hours to make the integration a bit more native, which is what SAP promised us. Therefore, in terms of integration, we have a challenge.

**What problems is SAP Asset Performance Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use SAP Asset Performance Management to validate and execute the lifecycle of our assets, improving maintenance and scheduling. This saves us costs and time, increasing efficiency. It also mitigates issues in equipment such as pumps and valves, viewing assets in real-time and georeferentially.

**What do you like best about SAP Asset Performance Management?**

Best part for me is the dashboard and the way information is presented. Its very clean and doesn't feel overwhelming, even though there is a lot of data behind it, which is amazing. I really love that I can drill down into specific asset metrics very quickly. It saves me a huge time on reporting every week and the insights are really easy to explain to the team without needing a any manual, which is again a great part which saves a huge time.

**What do you dislike about SAP Asset Performance Management?**

I would not say I dislike it, but the initial configuration takes much time which can be quite time-consuming. You really need to have your whole data organized properly before you start the configuration, or you will find yourself going back to fix things at the later stages. Some of the deeper reporting customization options are hidden, so it takes a few more clicks than I would like to get to specific views. A more simplified 'quick-start' dashboard for beginners would be a great addition to the platform.

**What problems is SAP Asset Performance Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It’s really helped us tackle the challenge of staying on top of complex compliance and safety standards which I personally really like. Keeping track of every single inspection and performance metric manually was a nightmare and left too much room for error. SAP Asset Performance Management automates that tracking, which has mitigated a lot of our operational risk. It gives me peace of mind knowing that we have a documented history for every asset and that we aren't going to miss a critical maintenance window.

  ### 5. Practical Predictive Maintenance That Turns Insights into Action

**Reviewed by:** Durga Madhab S. | Strategy Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 23, 2026

**What do you like best about SAP Asset Performance Management?**

Because it sits within the SAP ecosystem, our client who was already on S4 Hana, the integration cost and complexity of implementation was limited. But the most impactful aspects of the tool were the built-in tools (FMEA and RCM frameworks) which bring standardization which is difficult to replicate with other available solutions. We were able to customize the analytics views as per executive requirements by layering them with PowerBI enabling actionable insights for the different owners and teams.

The implementation of the system could have been easier. Because our client already had upgraded its system to S4 Hana and Deloitte's technology team had strong understanding of the systems we were able to simplify the implementation without major roadblocks. But during discussions with the tech team of Deloitte, I understood for greenfield projects the ramp up period is significant and requires considerable investment both from the client and the technology implementation teams in terms of time and expertise.

**What problems is SAP Asset Performance Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

From the view point of consulting, SAP Asset Performance Management enables me to deliver a structured framework of solution to clients who are confused about the said benefits of the system in relation to their existing systems or manual interventions. With SAP - APM I was able to up-sell the solution of deployed methodology where the built-in reliability frameworks, risk matrices and the dashboard views anchor the business case in tangible outcomes for the client.

Secondly as a strategy consultant one of the most painful exercises that we spend time on is data reconciliation during engagements in absence of MDM (Master Data Management). With a structured solution setup data governance and hygiene frameworks are taken care of and data is assessable for large form analysis.

  ### 24. Powerful Predictive Maintenance, But Complex Setup and Steep Learning Curve

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hirdesh P. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 28, 2025

**What do you like best about SAP Asset Performance Management?**

The excellence of SAP APM lies in its capacity to eliminate uncertainty regarding machine performance, transforming previously opaque black box systems into informative assets that convey their operational status.

Key advantages include:

Connectivity: Integrated within the SAP ecosystem, it triggers necessary maintenance procedures automatically when a machine exhibits issues, thus eliminating the need for manual data input.

Optimized Intervention: Rather than adhering to a predetermined maintenance schedule—which can incur unnecessary costs—it allows for repairs to be conducted only when data indicates an impending failure.

Prioritization of Issues: The system identifies which machines require immediate attention for safety considerations and which can afford to be addressed later, enabling more effective allocation of financial resources.

In summary, it preemptively alerts users to potential failures, thereby reducing the reliance on reactive maintenance strategies.

**What do you dislike about SAP Asset Performance Management?**

In summary, the primary disadvantage lies in the overall cumbersome nature of the setup. It is not a straightforward “plug-and-play” application; considerable time and financial investment is required to accurately configure the system to match the operations of your machinery, which delays the realization of any substantial advantages. This factor exacerbates the challenge of justifying the high initial cost, particularly given its classification as a premium tool. Additionally, there exists a notable learning curve due to the complexity of the user interface, compounded by SAP's frequent rebranding of product names, which can lead to confusion. Ultimately, the effectiveness of the system is contingent upon the quality of the data supplied; thus, if your datasets are disorganized or your sensors are outdated, you will likely receive unreliable notifications that fail to provide genuine assistance.

**What problems is SAP Asset Performance Management solving and how is that benefiting you?**

SAP Asset Performance Management effectively eliminates the reactive 'firefighting' approach by leveraging real-time sensor data to detect potential machinery failures in advance. Rather than incurring expenses associated with inflexible maintenance schedules or responding to unexpected breakdowns, this system accurately pinpoints when components are deteriorating and autonomously initiates the repair process.

Consequently, this approach transforms maintenance from an unpredictable series of crises into a structured and proactive plan. It enables a more strategic allocation of budget resources towards high-risk assets, diminishes operational downtime, and promotes the longevity of machinery by maintaining optimal operational condition.
