Useful to plug in prepaid items and have Intacct automate our amortization entries each month. I use it for prepaid insurance and prepaid software. **What do you dislike about Sage Intacct?** That would be a long list, but mainly I dislike Intacct's rigidity. Once a transaction has processed (e.g. an invoice receives a payment, a warehouse processed an inventory transfer, a bill was paid, etc...) we cannot DELETE it ever. That's it. No flexibility. For example, say we miscode a bill and receive a partial payment and apply it to said bill, then later on find the bill was miscoded. We are stuck with the bill forever, we need to do a lot of mental gymnastics to fix the miscoded bill's impact on our financials. We can't just void the payment, delete the bill, recode the bill, and reapply payments to it. Same thing with invoices/credit memos and obsolete warehouses. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** Intacct is causing more problems than it is solving. Mainly to data migration being done poorly from the onset. ### 2. It's also easy to navigate, which makes it easier to create custom reports if needed or leverage software like Tableau or Velixo. **What do you dislike about Sage Intacct?** I've been waiting for this question. I have a huge issue with Sage support. I submit a number of tickets and they rarely get resolved. The typical Intacct customer service response is formulaic. They more often than not steer you towards articles that you have to read. These articles do not help. Customer support is the biggest thing. If you have a good support team, you can accomplish anything you need. Sage is limited and they won't let you do anything without paying for it. It's hard to get anyone on the phone to workshop issues or ideas without paying money. Account Managers aren't equipped with the knowledge to resolve issues. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sage Intacct helps maintain our ledgers and record AP bills, cash, and accounting entries all in the same place. ### 3. It can give you a report on almost anything if you want, if you can build that report. **What do you dislike about Sage Intacct?** While the data is all there, it takes a considerable amount of customization to set it up. I run a professional services company, and it took us a full 9 months to finish implementation, which never did get done correctly. We don't a work-in-progress report that works properly, we don't have automated invoicing templates, we don't have dashboards set up, and the list could go on. On top of that, there's essentially no customer service from Sage directly. They can't help troubleshoot any issues and offer no support. You must do everything internally or with an implementation consultant. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** Enhanced reporting capabilities. We moved to Sage for both General Ledger and reporting, but we really are only seeing a benefit in some reporting capabilities. We now have more insight into project-based financials, which is nice, but I feel like we still could get a lot more out of the system. ### 4. I'm glad you are delaying, hopefully reversing, the decision to do away with the "receive a payment" option in AR. This is the one place where I can easily see everything open on an account, so even though it can unreasonably refuse to accept an entry (after correcting) or not always show all invoices, I use it almost exclusively to enter customer payments and look up what's outstanding. Trying to enter a customer refund is cumbersome. That or I haven't been able to find a straightforward way to do this. Currently, I enter a debit adjustment to reverse the credit memo, then apply it. Then go to Cash Management/Manual Payment and enter the refund amount - as cash for tracking- only so it doesn't issue a check or CC entry. This often requires setup of a customer as an AP vendor, making the vendor list a jumble of AP vendors and customers. Recently you changed the reference on overpayments/payments to customer accounts, to a random sequenced C number on the AR Aging Report. Why? I used to be able to easily figure out exactly what (check #) the credit resulted from because it labelled the credit as such. Now I have to go into another screen - yet another step. Just some thoughts from an amateur. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** Floral Computer System/Smart System POS system doesn't include an accounting function. Sage was one of two options to solve this issue. ### 5. And I don't like it for our direct care staff to use for requesting items from inventory. Once I submit a Purchase Order, it is simple to see who needs to approve it next and who is next in the queue. It won't take much time to reflect on the journal entries we posted, unlike other software. **What do you dislike about Sage Intacct?** I felt like it was taking too much time for reflecting on the invoices we raised. The time taken should be less it will be useful when it comes to the busy season or when a client comes up with an urgent request. Why should I go to another tab to see journal entries for the invoices I raised or the credit memos? It felt like too much of time time-consuming process to see the journal entries for that. It is easy to create customers, vendors, and projects in Sage. **What do you dislike about Sage Intacct?** It can be difficult to run useful reports, and does not have FP&A plug-ins that could be helpful for finance departments. The platform also does not offer AP solutions to allow invoices to be processed directly in the system. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sage Intacct enables my Company create reporting packages which drive our monthly close and FP&A process. The raw financial information that we are able to derive from Intacct is able to be reformatted for management reporting. ### 19. It struggles with project management and project finance and has limited functionality in that area. **What do you dislike about Sage Intacct?** The report writing and dashboard functionality is very outdated and made worse by inflexible data structures. Certain data tables can only be brought into certain report types, and there are line-item maximums to the number of dimensions items which can be added to groups/heirarchies. The release program for Sage updates is also problematic. Even Sage's premier partners struggle to facilitate client release preview environment testing, and the preview environments can't be integrated with integrations, which limits the ability to test. Our company has experienced two critical integration errors over the last three updates due to the lack of this ability to test. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sage provides a cloud accounting platform which allows us to manage AR/AP, reporting, and financials all from one system. I often use the Accounts Receivable function and I wish there was a way to link credit memos to their corresponding invoices. Additionally, the option to export invoice detail into Excel would be very helpful, as our invoices often have a lot of data, Having the option to export to Excel would allow us to be able to find errors more easily. The cash application process is also lacking - there should be a way to see all payments that are sitting on a customer account without having to go to the cash application module and search by each individual customer. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** Providing an ERP system ### 22. I would like to see a mobile app that allows at a minimum, the ability to fill out expense reports, and timesheets. **Recommendations to others considering Sage Intacct:** If your company is entirely office-based, this may be a good choice for you. If you have field workers who do not have their own offices and PC's, then this feels like a poor fit. Imagine how helpful it would be to use a mobile device to snap a photo of a receipt or invoice, fill out a few drop-down cells, and submit? Instead, you'll need to use a mobile device or scanner, then transfer that image to a PC, log into a session-based web GUI, fill out the few drop-down cells, attach and upload the image, then submit. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** Filling out an expense report or timesheet in Acrobat, and emailing it to the office. Not much of a benefit to any of the field (non-office based) employees. ### 31. Sage has data templates to assist with mass data input, which are helpful. I wish there were templates for every data type, but you can make that happen by exploring their API database and inputting the fields you need into their templates. **What do you dislike about Sage Intacct?** The very worst problem I had with Sage Intacct was bad customer service. They shove you off to their community site for most troubleshooting. It's an embarrassment how little they even attempt to help you with problems that surely other companies have had before. All my coworkers and I have found the customer service to be worse than Quickbooks. The other customer service problem has to do with their inflexibility. We signed a contract and promised to have a start date in the future. Unfortunately for us and sneakily for them, they used that signed date as the software start date. So despite the fact that we did not start using the software until later, we have to pay for months of it we did not use. And because this is a repeat software subscription, we are forced to essentially pay them at negative net terms. Upon multiple emails and meetings with them about it, they told me that's all they can do. When I said, "Can I just pay it after Net 30 of when it WOULD be due", they threatened to discontinue service. Yes, that's right. They said they would delete our organization and destroy our books for a NET TERMS DISPUTE where they are in the wrong. So be very wary when signing up for Sage. They will do very little for you, but make sure you give them what they want. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's accounting software. We need to book all our Assets, Liability, Equity, Income and Expenses, like any accounting software. Sage does this fine, but not terrifically. There is no module in the base package for payroll checks. (What? How?) I had to invent a way around this by booking all our payroll checks as journal entry line items. While an acceptable workaround, Sage had no idea what we needed despite explaining it to them multiple times. I had to make the software work for us, not them making it work for us. ### 32. The Smart Rules and Smart Events, although not ideally implemented, are still great additions to the product. API access is available. Documentation and support for developers is very good. User documentation and Help is great. **What do you dislike about Sage Intacct?** This appears to be an older product that has just been added onto over the years, and is now in need of a total re-write. As a sometime developer myself, and having looked extensively at their object modeling, I can see areas where they appear to have coded themselves into corners, and product enhancements often seem like kludgy add-ons. Two report writers come free with the base product: The Financial Report Writer and the Custom Report Writer. These are very limited in scope and formatting. For decent reports, you will need to purchase an additional license for the Interactive Custom Report Writer, or use third-party software. Data privacy is a big concern. With the ever increasing number of data privacy laws, best practice is to limit the user to information for which they have a business need. Intacct does not provide the kind of security permissions granularity to accomplish this. For example, if you need to give a user permission to a particular thing on one entity, they will have that permission on every company to which they have access, and there is not way to prevent it, other than purchasing multiple licenses for the same employee. In a modern ERP, administrators should be able to finely tune user permissions; the more granular control, the better. **Recommendations to others considering Sage Intacct:** Sage Intacct appears to be a good solution for small to medium size companies, as long as they are fairly straight-forward and do not present any unusual challenges nor require best practices for internal data privacy. If your company does not fit this description, approach with caution. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** Replacing an aging ERP system ### 38. We used Intacct to enhance our accounting for foreign exchange, where the Group had a statutory obligation to report in AUD, but was operating subsidiaries in the United States, United Kingdom as well as Australia. The application that was able to enable the group to create a whole suite of reports for Group reporting for a global business was also easily achieved. Purchasing approvals are also a great function for organisations. We found revenue recognition was very helpful for long-dated sales contracts, as revenues would be automatically recorded each month. **What do you dislike about Sage Intacct?** For me what I disliked was the cost of the product, its lack of GST support and how difficult it was to get anyone on the phone to help when something broke. In addition to that I'd like to add that the lack of native VAT/GST reporting really let this product down. Avalara is the preferred 3rd party application to handle this, but adds additional expense. Lack of general ledger detail when drilling down into consolidated reports while only a minor problem, was very annoying. Bank feeds for many banks outside of the United States also lack support. Normally this is not a problem if you can simply import the transactions using a CSV template, but the templates provided by Intacct are hard to use and are difficult to trouble-shoot when there are errors after being uploaded. The base licence cost may prove to be prohibitive for most small to medium sized organizations, as this was ultimately the reason why we decided to change accounting systems. Account management was very light-touch, with Intacct representatives preferring to refer you to their online community rather than engaging on a call, unless subscription renewal was approaching. **Recommendations to others considering Sage Intacct:** Intacct would be high on my list of enterprise grade accounting software packages. It is particularly great if your business only operates within the United States. **What problems is Sage Intacct solving and how is that benefiting you?** We were able to solve so many problems, its really great. Intacct helped our organisation move away from manually consolidated the Group's financials each month. Removing many headaches in the process. The way foreign currency is handled is also very useful. The report writer functionality is also excellent, we were able to write customer reports which were subsequently integrated into our reporting dashboards. ### 39. It is a very manual/labor intensive program especially as compared to QuickBooks. It takes more staff time to handle the same function as QuickBooks. Can't go back and fix minor errors. It needs to be a lot more QuickBooks like in functionality. As most users convert from QuickBooks they need a program which will seamlessly convert the data. Financial reports out of the box are poor but the ability to customize makes up for that once you learn how. Customer support is cumbersome but knowledgeable. **Recommendations to others considering Sage Intacct:** Ask a lot of questions of the sales rep and then take what they say with a grain of salt. Talk to actual users to get their feedback and how they use it.
