"One of the easiest configuration management tool on the market"
5/5
What do you like best about Rudder?

Rudder has by far the lowest learning curve across configuration management tools on the market. Once the server side is deployed, installing and pluging in agents is a breeze.

Where other tools force you to learn fancy implemented DSL, brand new functionnal languages or specific YAML syntaxes, Rudder let's you create your management rules in a very graphical way that your whole team will be able to adapt to very quickly and easily.

The graphical reporting let's you quickly access the compliance of your whole infrastructure.

The integrated inventory, can easily be queried from the integrated API to let you programmatically populate other internal tools - Big plus when having to integrate 3rd party corporate tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rudder?

The graphical interface - almost only - can sometimes be less flexible than what could be provided.

Luckily the Rudder devs are working on that point with the integrated technique editor.

It needs some easier way to plug shared-files with external Git repositories to make admin life easier. Git push to deploy modifications also makes sense. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerfull long-term compliance ensured"
4/5
What do you like best about Rudder?

The desired state is enforced continously and near real-time reporting is provided on a very detailed level, which is easy to understand in the complex but useful WebGUI. Supported operating systems range in a very large timeframe, which is essential for enterprise distros having sometimes ~5-8 years of lifetime. The REST API provides a quite usable way to interface with the functionalities, and also the Datasource plugin allows to integrate it with other existing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rudder?

Multi-staged environments are hard to maintain, and are only working when all environments share the exact same version. Any change introduced on a policy level results in it getting pulled in by all nodes, there is no built-in staged rollout with canaries and/or 1-5-10..% rollouts, so it needs to be worked around by the admins/architects. The policy generation is done on a central server, which is OK if you have <3000 nodes, but over 5000 it adds a quite big overhead on each bit policy change. "Integration between Rudder and iTop"
4/5
What do you like best about Rudder?

During our integration project we had to integrate Rudder information into iTop CMDB

What is really interesting is that we collect easily all the information using the REST/JSON API which complete and easy to use.

As of today we use Rudder to collect the system inventory and then we link them to Directive and Rules status. This all an configuration manager to get in one click all the rules non compliant that can impact an application solution.

Moreover we worked directly with the R&D team that was really responsive and that improved a lot the REST web services over the different version Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rudder?

As of today the user management is not really easy to manage as we cannot make it in the web user interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

May sometimes prove itself a bit difficult to debug, but the tooling to guide the user through the process has improved a lot since the latest releases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Deployments are done by many tools with different levels of happiness, but the real killer quality of Rudder is its capacity to measure conformity of what you've deployed, otherwise you stay blind. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rudder?

Maybe it is not famous enough for its differentiator... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
