"Star Assessments Review (Middle School Opinion)"
4/5
What do you like best about Renaissance Star Assessments?

Star Assessments does a good job of predicting how many of our students will perform on the state assessments at the end of the year. There are also great resources/links available that can assist in targeting needed areas of improvement if educators take advantage of them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Renaissance Star Assessments?

Many of our students get tired of taking this assessment multiple times a year (which is needed to get accurate results). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Renaissance Star Assessments?

I have been using the Star Assessments for 5 years now. I love that the test can be taken as many times as I want the students to take it. It gives a clear picture of the progress or declines that the students are making throughout the year. We have the students take the Star tests at the beginning of each quarter so it is a great tool to monitor their progress throughout the year. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Renaissance Star Assessments?

I do not have anything that I dislike at this time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Renaissance Star Assessments?

Renaissance/Star360 has some very good features like quick testing time and a variety of quick, good, classroom level reports for teachers. Being a quick assessment, it leaves more time for student instruction and frees up the lab for other activities. It also has a variety of good, detailed classroom level reports; teachers can get the summary information and performance levels they need easily. It also interpolates the results to account for the exact testing date in relation to their norming study so the results are more accurate regardless of when the assessment is given. It also allows additional testing as progress monitoring for students that need more attention. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Renaissance Star Assessments?

There are a few things about Renaissance/Star360 that I dislike. One problem is that it does not keep records of previous students, even for the remainder of the current school year. If a student leaves the district, the RDI automatically takes them out of the entire Renaissance system. If I need scores to forward to their new district or if the State requires information on students who left the district during the school year it is a big pain. I have to constantly make and save exports, then if I need to retrieve the expunged information, I have to go to my external, huge, saved exports files and manually search through the csv files. Also, Renaissance/Star360 does not allow reports to be exported in any manipulable form (only in pdf, not as a csv file). The only export that can be done is a very large full export with none of the summaries the other reports provide. In addition, Renaissance/Star360 does not have functioning school wide grouping. Classes can be broken down into smaller sub-groups of a teacher's own students, but it is very difficult to make a larger school wide groups that crosses teachers and classes. When you do make groups, they are not available for student selection on most of the reports--only teachers and classes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Renaissance Star Assessments?

Star Assessments provide detailed information on what skills and concepts a child is lacking in Reading and Math. It also provides strategies you could use to help the child reach grade-level, and they predict where they should be by the end of the school year. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Renaissance Star Assessments?

The only downside would be that they offer a variety of reports for the educators to use to diagnose the child that it sometimes get confusing which one to use and where it can be located on the website. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like the grouping feature and also how it shows areas of weakness so you can address those areas. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Renaissance Star Assessments?

For some second graders, the test is a little lengthy. I typically have them break it up into a couple of testing sessions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
