## Redshift Reviews
 ### 1. Our institute's go to rendering suite

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vivek T. | Co-Founder, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 12, 2023

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

We rely on Redshift extensively for our 3D modelling needs at our institute. We use Redshift with Cinema 4D, and it saves us days worth of time in rendering the complex 3D models

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

The Maxon One educational licenses should have regionalized pricing.

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Redshift cuts down the hours it takes to render 3D models by a significant margin. We have seen instances where the render time was supposed to be 20+ hours and was rather finished in a couple of hours.

 ### 2. Faster Renders at High Quality

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shane O. | Senior 3D Lighting & Motion Graphics Artist at Amazon, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 30, 2023

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

I like that Redshift has more of a GPU-based focus while maintaining an overall holistic PBR workflow for shaders.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

I think that sometimes Redshift can be tricky precisely when materializing glass objects. They tend to look a bit off on refraction despite appropriate settings.

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Due to the quicker nature of GPU rending, Redshift solves the problem of being slowed down by slow render times and tech. This allows me to iterate on imagery edits faster.

 ### 3. The fastest GPU renderer available

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bruno V. | 3d Artist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

The integration with Cinema 4d works perfectly. The tabs can be pinned to the workspace to preview the rendering in real-time. All the properties of the materials can be modified to have a realistic texture, and it is also possible to speed up the rendering time by decreasing the exposure of the material, which is fundamental, especially in animations.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

For beginners it can seem very complicated and confusing. You will have to take the time to learn about the properties of materials and how Redshift works with them.

**Recommendations to others considering Redshift:**

Do the trial period and you will know the real potential of Redshift. In no time you won't want to switch to another renderer! Keep in mind that this is a GPU renderer

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work daily creating 3d animations and Redshift is a game-changer. Rendering speed is undoubtedly one of the big differences. With some adjustments, an animation rendering that would last 7 days can drop drastically to 2 or 3 days.

 ### 4. Fastest GPU renderer available on the market

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mauro L. | Mechanical engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2022

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

One of the big advantages of Redshift is the rendering time. There is certainly no other GPU renderer capable of delivering extreme quality in such a short time. Real-time visualization provides comfort and speed in the workflow. Advanced users are able to explore the true potential of Redshift by customizing each individual material property.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

For beginners it may seem very complicated, the available presets are reasonable at first look. Anyone who wants to have satisfactory results will have to learn the basic properties of materials and how Redshift works with them.

**Recommendations to others considering Redshift:**

Put a little effort into learning how to use the software and quickly you won't want to stop with Redshift. Especially if you intend to do any kind of 3D animation.

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work producing animations of mechanical parts, and one of the main points to consider when doing 3D animation is rendering time. A renderer that is fast with good quality is really a game-changer. Redshift allows me a good rendering speed, as well as being able to customize every little detail in the materials and rendering options to speed up the process.

 ### 5. Redshift is the best overall GPU render engine out there.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Garvit G. | 3D Artist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2022

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

The render times of redshift are way better than any other render engine when it comes to GPU rendering.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

The biggest strength of redshift is its biggest drawback as well. It does not have the option for CPU rendering. Also, mediocre GPU hardware don't give good performance.

**Recommendations to others considering Redshift:**

If you have a good GPU and some extra bucks to spend on a render engine, Redshift is the way to go.

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We mostly use it to create realistic outputs for some of our clients.

 ### 6. Data warehouse that needs to catch up to the competition

**Reviewed Date:** June 14, 2022

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

Provides most of what a cloud-based data warehouse should have.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

Lacking features such as zero-downtime cloning functionality and proper separation of compute and storage.

**Recommendations to others considering Redshift:**

Consider many other alternatives before fully committing to Redshift.

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solved our short term data warehouse needs. We have replaced Redshift since.

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

Redshift is a fork off of Postgres and the engineers at amazon have made many improvements to scale the capabilities of Redshift to accommodate voluminous data. Redshift also works with AWS S3 to perform parallel inserts into the data warehouse tables. Redshift also allows for table optimization due to the specification of sort and distribution keys when writing the DDL of your tables. Additionally, spinning up a cluster is super simple via the aws console.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

Reading the documents can take some time but it will definitely be worth your time. Finding the nitty gritty details of how certain things work is buried inside mountains of documentation and there are not many examples to draw inspirations from.

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Redshift is for handling storing and analyzing massive amounts of data

 ### 10. Redshift

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 06, 2018

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

The power of this GPU is absolutely paramount within the industry. When you look at some of the companies that are leveraging this GPU it really shows when you look at the quality coming out from those that are not using this product.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

At this point I have not come across anything that I do not like about this product. I think that it performs the way it was intended and the only thing I would say on it from there is to continue enhancing it along with the technological industry.

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When we are looking to provide some client presentations on their project we will often Render it and having a powerful GPU helps with that.

 ### 11. GP/CPU Renderer with Flexible Features.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Miroslav B. | 3D Asset Artist / 3D Generalist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 16, 2018

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

I like this rendering for speed, the ability to use not only the memory of the graphic card, but also the RAM. This makes it possible to render complex and "heavy" scenes. Also, it is built into Autodesk Maya and SideFX Houdini, which make the shader configuration easy with the node-base workflow.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

A small number of material presets and a high price for home usage. And doesn't work with Houdini Mantra shader nodes. I had to rebuild shaders from Mantra to Redshift.

**Recommendations to others considering Redshift:**

I recommend this program to anyone who wants to do shots quickly.

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've been rendering the animation scenes with this program in SideFX Houdini.

 ### 16. One of the best data warehouses on the market

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 03, 2018

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

Setting up a redshift cluster is super simple via the console in AWS. You can specify the cluster size and the hardware specs of each node and have it up and running in an instant. The cost is also very reasonable and it is easy to scale up or down based on specific needs. The documentation is also thorough and redshift is a fork off of postgres. So as a user of postgres, moving to redshift was very smooth for me.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

There really is not anything I dislike about redshift. I am totally a big fanboy of the product.

**Recommendations to others considering Redshift:**

Learn about columnar database before using redshift!

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

So the first thing that people should know is that Redshift is columnar storage data warehouse. When people create their tables, they will need to put some thought into how their data will be queried and who will be the end-users of those tables. Once you can answer those questions, you can milk all the performance advantages out of Redshifts MPP architecture and have your queries running lightning fast. This is especially noticeable once your tables contain millions of rows of data.

 ### 17. Amazing speed and quality

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher R. | Freelance Animator/ Motion Graphics Designer, Publishing, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2017

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

Redshift blows it's cpu-based counterparts out of the water with blazing fast render times that make being an independent 3D animator / animation studio far more feasible than ever before.

The speed is the biggest advantage of redshift, followed by the quality of the rendering which seems to be limitless. I have not run into any issues with redshift in my using it so far as things that I can do with other renderers that are not possible with redshift.

The software is incredibly deep, the documentation and design of the software is incredibly clear, and the price is amazing considering what can be done with one license.

Furthermore, the support forums are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the developers are doing a great job supporting the software, clearly very passionate about it.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

Redshift can be incredibly taxing on the GPU and requires at least one pretty powerful one to get up and running, which can be an investment. Furthermore I have run into some issues with my GPU crashing since using redshift, although this could be as much a hardware problem as a software bug.

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In the past, getting projects rendered took huge amounts of time and a number of machines just to get a short animation completed, with constant checking back on the rendering. Now whole projects can be rendered on a single graphics card in a number of hours with really high quality. Furthermore, the fast rendering speed allows for really quick iterations and the amount of time needed to test different looks is far less than before, really speeding up the production and look development process.

 ### 18. Great software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Redshift?**

Redshift makes it extremely easy to analyze and visualize data. The interface is very intuitive to use and I have no problems navigating the software.

**What do you dislike about Redshift?**

It’s difficult to export graphs and charts to other software (e.g. PowerPoint).

**What problems is Redshift solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Visualize data in an intuitive and easy to understand way
