When i first started with containerization I was very lost until i started working in Open shift. I went from knowing nothing to being a Open shift administrator within a few months. Now we manage over 20 clusters worldwide and continue to grow! There are so many great resources available to learn and can be applied to both kuberenetes and Open shift as they are very similar. If you don't have the time, skills, or desire to set up your own kubernetes/ hypervisor infrastructure ( on top of your actual product) OpenShift can provide a mostly lock in free solution for you. Part of being bespoke is they have made decisions that help more tightly bind you to other products in their ecosystem. Of course there is an cost and myriad of Licensing complexity to extract the most revenue from you. That is the trade you make for not having to do a whole bunch of work yourself. You will still need to be able to debug and understand all the components when things go wrong, or invest in other layers of support for that. This is just the toolset. This is the most comprehensive Kubernetes system you can buy. The key word is buy. It comes with a lot of tools and every tool you can imagine that goes with containers. If it is the full solution with a Web UI, this is the best one out there. If your team is a little more tech savvy and seasoned, then this system probably will be too much and not necessary. The user interface is relatively easy to use one you read the directions. Pages are mostly clean to get started. Documentation is pretty good and complete. However, recent changes to documentation site has made it awkward and a lot of broken pages. Customer support is very good. Will answer any questions. I love that it supports RBAC, SDDC / virtual networking and segmentation, robust integrated storage and backup / snapshot and many of the features we have come to love in VMware. Ability to deploy microservices. Ability to have containerization, virtualization and AI in a single platform. Ease of network connections between the created pods either in the same project (namespaces) or different namespaces. Ability to create Network Policies to isolate traffic and achieve better network security. What do you dislike about Red Hat OpenShift? OpenShift Virtualization still needs more enhancement to achieve the expected user experience of enterprise customers. Its UI needs to be enhanced with having the ability to do everything using its Web UI with no need to command line interface. Large scale traffic intensive performance needs to be more clear for Telco Operators to achieve mass market use cases. Better integration with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform needs to be added to automate tasks and enhance the DevOps CI/CD life cycle. OpenShift makes everything about kubernetes ready for the Enterprise. It allows us to apply security, scaling, and elasticity for the whole company without having to require each team to purchase hardware and do their own setup. For yours use is the resilience and ease to go to production for any of yours systems, the system although can have some issues, it normally won't affect the uptime of the deploy applications, after migrate to the OpenShift, after the initial learning curve to migrate all the pipelines, it became a breeze to deploy new system from the zero.
