I find RealVNC makes it easy to support end users and appreciate how it's a solid solution critical to our daily operations. I like its ease of use and the fact that it isn't bloated, with the client not utilizing a lot of system resources. The new features, like being able to hear audio remotely and reliable screen refresh, allow our video editors to edit videos remotely. I also love that file transfer is easy using RealVNC. It's easy to install and has been a consistently innovative application, warranting my high recommendation. **What do you dislike about RealVNC?** Nothing comes to mind that I don't like about RealVNC. **Recommendations to others considering RealVNC:** We have been using RealVNC for direct connections for years. With the addition of VNC Connect we were able to drop Log Me In Central which we used for out of network connections. I have found VNC Connect to be more user friendly and more light weight than the Log Me In client.  For one-off help, On-Demand Assist lets me start a session with a code and no preinstall on the other side, which keeps quick fixes moving without setup delays. When a trusted guest needs a short window onto a device, Code Connect provides a clean invite that expires fast and still asks for approval on the host, which keeps access contained. 
Security feels like a default, not an obstacle; encryption is on, MFA and SSO are available, and the docs are clear enough to share in policy conversations. Across devices and platforms, the experience stays consistent, so moving from Windows to macOS to mobile does not derail the flow or require a second tool.

We used the free version for several years. When that product tier was eliminated we did some product comparison and found that it's a bit more expensive than some competitors. There isn't a tier that's a good fit for us. The structure of the program is well thought out, making it easy to select a remote computer to connect to on both mobile and computer devices. I use RealVNC on a daily basis to connect to a number of computers in the research lab I work in. Being able to connect to a computer in a different remotely from my phone allows me to easily integrate systems in different parts of the lab togeather. **What do you dislike about RealVNC?** There are a few ways in which I think RealVNC could be improved to offer a better experience. 1. Ocassionally the RealVNC server has logged my user out of the account for no clear reason. It is always difficult to figure out that this has happened. It also causes a major headache if I am home when the log out occurs, as I have no way of accessing the computer in person. 2. RealVNC doesn't provide as smooth of an experience as other remote desktop apps, for example the Parsec app. Improving the snappiness of the remote desktop experience would make me enjoy using RealVNC even more! **What problems is RealVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?** RealVNC allows the research lab that I work in to access instruments in different rooms and across buildings. Once the client side is configured, the connection is always there on the launcher, ready to go. I can connect almost immediately without end-user intervention. I have great controls from the toolbar such as sending CTRL+ALT+DEL, which is good when I'm using VNC through a remote session of my own. I can switch monitors or view all simultaneously. It stays connected through reboots, which is better than baked beans at a BBQ. VNC is one of those tools that you didn't know you needed but can't let it go. It makes remote administration just so much easier, especially on headless PCs. I have used ConnectWise and I feel that VNC is smoother. **What do you dislike about RealVNC?** I have used ConnectWise in the past and I feel like ConnectWise offered better information and logistics about a remote system. Maybe it is designed more for the MSP market, but the version of VNC I use lacks some of those tools that can really bring the whole package of remote administration, logistics, inventory, and information. **What problems is RealVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use VNC to remotely administer a headless PC in a warehouse 2.5 hours away from my office headquarters. The warehouse guys don't want the role of adjusting the PC to suit their needs; they want IT to manage it for them. Since no one sits at that PC, I need to have extensive control over it remotely. They said they were working on it, but for the time being, we can route audio through Skype in a way that works for us. You don't have to be an expert to use this application. If you have never used a remote access tool before then this is an easy one for you to lab up and understand the components and communications of remote access. But know that this solution is not intended to be used for many remote access scenarios. **What do you dislike about RealVNC?** VNC Connect advertizes strong security, but what do they mean when they say that? They mean they have options for strong encryption and authorization but don't do that by default. If you'd like to use this securely then you should have an expert on hand (not your neighbor's kid, but an expert in security and cryptography). Why? Because this solution is a direct access solution. This means if you want to compare it in the same realm as some of the other remote access solutions, then you need to be fair to where it falls short. Direct access solutions work if you deploy another product on top of that for privacy, plus dedicated jump servers, isolate them... It's just a lot of work to get to what other solutions provide natively. All VNC serves a purpose, but I never like seeing that purpose being for remote access. Any direct access solution brings the risk of whatever is on your remote computer into the environment, and that comes with a risk of cross-contamination. For this reason, VNC-based solutions should only be done within secure environments, and NOT "to access secure environments remotely". **Recommendations to others considering RealVNC:** 1. Look at your options. 2. Consider spending a bit more money. Depending on your goals for use; if it involves remote access AT ALL, take another look at other products. This product does not provide the type of secure remote access you want, and can quickly become a vulnerability for you to manage. **What problems is RealVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?** Was used for remote access and administrative solution for admins to access certain areas of the environment. It has since been removed and replaced with another product that better aligns with remote access security. **Official Response from Josh Goodman:** > Hi Alex, We’re glad to hear you found VNC Connect easy to use, manage and deploy. Though, we are sorry to hear that your wider experience with VNC Connect doesn’t appear to have met your expectations. We'd like to affirm that VNC Connect is a remote access solution for businesses. Thousands of leading organizations, operating across a range of industries, use and trust VNC Connect every day for secure remote device access and support. You've also made a couple of comments regarding the security of VNC Connect that we’d like to address too. Firstly, you say that “[VNC Connect has] options for strong encryption and authorization but don't do that by default”. 128-bit AES is the default, out-of-the-box setting for all our subscription types. It is enforced as standard, so non-encrypted connections will fail. Authentication is set to System Authentication (e.g. Windows Password) by default as well, meaning connections authenticate against the remote computer’s OS. Furthermore, only members of the remote computer’s "administrators" group have access via VNC Connect by default, further securing access. You can change this setting as an Administrator, but VNC Connect’s default setup is secure. If you’re connecting via the cloud (which is required for any connections over the internet), then access must be made from a VNC Viewer signed into a RealVNC account (which has device authentication enabled by default, upgradeable to 2FA TOTP), and the user must be given discovery permission for the VNC Server(s) before they even hit the authorization layers above. Again, it’s a very secure setup. Secondly, you say that "any direct access solution brings the risk of whatever is on your remote computer into the environment, and that comes with a risk of cross-contamination”. VNC and Remote Frame Buffer (RFB) protocols transmit visual desktop updates (frame buffer/pixels) from the remote device (Server) to your computer (Viewer), and the Viewer sends keyboard and mouse events back to the Server. As such, there is no additional data channel that puts the two devices in direct communication. Security is at the core of everything we do at RealVNC. We adhere to four fundamental security principles to ensure we build and offer a remote access solution that’s secure for customers. That commitment to security is also reflected in the recent security audit that VNC Connect underwent. The vigorous, independent white box audit by Cure53 (which you can read via the "See how VNC Connect improved" link below) found that, of 38 security-relevant discoveries, none were critical. Only three were deemed ‘high severity’ and they were fixed immediately. Of course, our work is never done, and we’re always adding new features and functionality to further improve VNC Connect and its offering. Even if we are using it virtually, the graphics are designed in such a way so that there is no difference with the non-virtual it gives the same feeling as we are using it real. And it is also a smart card authentication. Also, it supports both Apple iOS and Android. **What do you dislike about RealVNC?** I did not find any dislikes or problems with the Real VNC. The only thing I want to suggest is if we don't operate it through mobile, it's ok, at least give one application to mobile so that we can watch the machine if someone is working on it. **Recommendations to others considering RealVNC:** Please provide a mobile application, if not for working at least for watching it by logging in. **What problems is RealVNC solving and how is that benefiting you?** The problem I solve through the Real VNC is that I can repair any system in the world if it is a software-related issue by sitting in my home, which is saving me a lot of time as well as energy. Was going to setup a full remote connect in my computer but this was so much easier and didn't require our IT guy to come out and set it up. He was the one that recommended it and am grateful for that! Wasn't sure how it would do with dual monitors, but it is easy to use and I haven't had any issues with it lagging or taking a long time to respond. Though it is a little tough to use on a phone, well because it is a phone, it is still handy to be able to do something quick or access a file or folder I need to get some information from. When we were just going to use remote connect on the computer, I was going to have to use the junk work laptop that is so old and has a bad battery, but now with vnc connect I can use it with my personal android phone, Surface Pro 7, my Toshiba laptop or my desktop with dual monitors. This is really handy and it is quick to login and see the computer and be able to work on it quickly and efficiently.
