A lot of times I get errors and there is not much support for the product.

Many times the error messages don't accurately describe what the error actually is.

Clearcase supports most of the existing operating system, but its installation, configuration and use are relatively complex.Company need spending some time training the whole team.What's more,it's very difficult to install and is pretty heavy for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

This is one product which I feel is still old fashioned. I have few dislikes as below :

1.) Licensing costs are too high

2.) Gui is pretty dated

-The MultiVersion File System,which can mount versioned object base on virtual file system ,making note of different versions of the software developed.

Lot of tabs,many fields to enter,

many little details before finishing a task,need to know the exact flow,check-in check out could take a lot of time,the tree structure is a little confusing Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Rational Clearcase used to be one of the best configuration management tools about 7-8 years ago, Multisite features, file centric and id level config managmenet, branching, ability to write wrappers around clearcase, 3 way merging, meta data oriented and easy to build using metadata made it one of the best tools in late 90's and early 2000's Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Clearcase although was good in early 2000's, it has not evolved as compared to SVN, GIT and other config management tools

The GUI is not great, the atomic commits are not available, it is still file centric

requires administrators to manage, unlike a lot of other tools are following the DevOps model of minimal administration and maximum controls to the developers, expensive in price and heavy on memory and hardware Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Clearcase has some great features - dynamic views, clearmake, winking in objects, etc. Even when I was using it 10+ years ago, it was screamingly fast across our 10MB LAN. The GUI for windows was great and Rational's 3-way merge tool was very helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

UCS. Administrators who don't know how to tune clearcase. I've used it at other companies and it was universally disliked. Dynamic views were impossible over a 100MB LAN because "clearcase" was so slow - this wasn't a clearcase issue per se, but it speaks to the sensitivity of the tool to having a great network, great servers, and great administrators as table stakes to using it. Most companies don't have one of those, let alone all three, which makes clearcase painful for the users and admins. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Rational Clear Case is the best tool that I would personally recommend for the Configuration Management purpose. This tool is well integrated with Rational ClearQuest defect tracking tool. This Clearcase tool helps to maintain software and as well as documentations with the record tracking of new Change Requests and defects. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I really do not have any dislikes about this Rational Clearcase Tool except that the new user may get confused because of the version trees displayed on the graphical view. IBM Rational ClearCase is a great tool for software configuration, management and building code with a version control. In multisite environment it works great when teams are collocated and responsible to their core. It works very when for integration, baselining. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

In large companies with many users (more then 200) it requires investment in ClearCase (VOB/View) servers infrastructure. Due to it's nature it cannot be decentralized.

I really like that it allows dynamic and snapshot models for work. and the check ins could be reserved or unreserved, so I am not blocking anyone. Graphical merge is more advanced and helpful compared to other version control software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It is a little complicated to use. Sometimes when I have a lot of file changes, it freezes on me and I have to wait a few minutes for it to come back. It especially takes a long time to refresh the results while checking in in intelliJ. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The ability to do inline development as well as branching of streams
