"Real enterprise CM tool"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Rational ClearCase?

you can automate a lot with this tool and you have to think to use it in right way. Support most popular platforms, great customization features, can be used for high availability model. No limits for version data storage. This is old product and most errors already fixed. New bugs are rarely observed, because there are not too much new development efforts provided for ClearCase. What do you dislike about Rational ClearCase?

developers have no time to learn it and use by themselves - they need administrator who will help them. GUI looks rather old style and obsolete, IBM don't drive ClearCase development now and it looks like we have very small new features in future releases (in case we will see new releases). There are no real support for different development models - it's hard to use CC for traditional (waterflow) teams together with SCRUM or Kanban teams. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"ClearCase use on a day to day basis"
3/5
What do you like best about Rational ClearCase?

A nice Document control system, which ties into our internal Work Request and Change Request processes (via Clear Quest). A somewhat easy search feature for finding older documents, we have been using this in my current department for our Build documents which contain our specifications of our steps when building out a server. It has other uses, beyond the few that my immediate department uses, such as allowing a tracking all changes made to a script or document and tracking the changes from cradle to grave. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rational ClearCase?

There are a few improvements needed, such as an easier way to upload documents than the way we have it configured, by linking it to a Work Request. We also have it configured to store individual “views” locally on workstations, instead of a central repository, which is bad when a workstation’s hard drive “dies”. "Development Artifact Repository"
2.5/5
What do you like best about Rational ClearCase?

My team uses Clearcase primarily as a document repository. Clearcase provides version control and enables users to quickly switch between views though a GUI interface. Access to views can be tightly controlled so that users only have access to objects required for their work and documents can be organized into directories which can also be put under version control. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rational ClearCase?

Installation of the Clearcase client is a complex process requiring several reboots. As a result, deployment of this tool was diffcult to automate using SCCM. Infrequent users of this tool frequently struggle with the processes that must be followed to add new documents and/or make changes to existing documents. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Robust But Can Be Slow"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Rational ClearCase?

Rational ClearCase has provided us a powerful configuration management tool. It provides a thorough change history if used correctly. Build triggers and Linux environment support provide a great build environment. ClearCase allows for easy version comparisons which facilitate peer reviews. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rational ClearCase?

Because of the size of the software it can be difficult to migrate when changing environments. ClearCase's integration with source code on user machines is lacking and frustrates some developers. It can be very tricky because some triggers can seem hacked together. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"We use ClearCase for some of our projects"
0/5
What do you like best about Rational ClearCase?

They dynamic views are useful. But even those get over-used and cause extra complications. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rational ClearCase?

Everything else. It is outdated, the config specs get too complicated very quickly. The learning curve is monstrous, most people really just learn how to use custom scripts that have been around a long time and don't learn the tool itself. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Rational ClearCase?

Works as a File Manger and tracks changes made to files from insertion to deletion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Rational ClearCase?

Too intergrated with ClearQuest that you it requires a WR and an attribute # associated with that WR to upload/edit any document in ClearCase. It's very difficult to update anything in ClearCase without first completing at least 4-5 steps in ClearQuest. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
