  ### 8. It was already awesome, now it has become even better for generating solar farm projects quickly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lucio Carlos P. | Solar projects engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2021

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

The automatic project generation pvDesign features:

- solar farm layout
- overhead lines design
- single line diagrams (LV, MV, HV)
- design report
- bill of quantities
- terrain analysis (which has vastly improved since last year)
- BESS
- LCOE analysis
- energy yield analysis

The design process is simple yet powerful, and the needed inputs can be easily generated from any GIS tool and a spreadsheet. The generated data is exported to commonly used formats in the industry and can accommodate modifications if necessary. Depending on the design objective, one can even ditch the spreadsheet.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

The software has improved a lot since our last feedback. It would be convenient if we could choose how the available area is filled (from the top or left/right) and have an earthworks estimation. Also, it would be very suitable if it had all substation design options to accommodate all HV levels in Brazil (up to 500 kV). Still, for most cases, we can use the output as they are supplied or with minor modifications.

**Recommendations to others considering RatedPower:**

Start simple, then start adding your knowledge about the project to the parameters chosen.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We can get realistic estimates of the allowable installed power for a given area, have insights into the effective terrain occupation and see how the design is affected by parameters such as DC/AC ratio or pitch. We can also calculate cable losses from the exported files.

**Official Response from Irene Negro:**

> Hello Lucio Carlo,

Thank you very much for this great review! We're glad to hear that you like our product.

We are always working to improve pvDesign, so we highly appreciate the feedback.

  ### 13. pvDesign is one of the best software's in the industry!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2021

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Excellent user interface, ease of use, functionality,, and the possibility to perform quickly several simulations with diferent equipaments to optimize the design. Topography integration is also very helpfull.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Nothing, in particular, hope to see further developments soon to improve 3D aspects of the simulation

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

pvDesign is a great tool for developing, pre-engineering the design of PV projects, allowing to perform complex analysis of the projects and obtain drawings, bill of materials, and technical descriptions.

**Official Response from Natalia Opie Dávila:**

And yes, great developements are on their way. We hope you like them!

  ### 14. User-friendly software convenient for preliminary designs

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Handly design optimization tool: multiple design options, database with lots of pv panels, structure configurations, inverters.
Eats-West structure is very helpful.
Having the possibility to have 2 different string configurations for the tables is also very good.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

The use of central inverter is not so easy: should be able to select an area to know the DC power, and choose an inverter for each area of the design.
The parameters are all changing if one change the meteo file or PV panel. That would be convenient to have the pitch or the clearing distance staying constant (and choose what will sty constant).
the string configuration should let the possibility to choose more different sizes if possible.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The update of East-West structure is very helpful for our projets.
The possibility of having different number of trings per table also.
The possibility to choose the path for routes and cables.

**Official Response from Natalia Opie Dávila:**

> Hi there, pvDesign user!

Thank you very much for the great review. We are glad to hear that the different optimization features pvDesign offers are as helpful as intended! 'Partial Structures' feature included.

Your feedback is also appreciated. We are currently reviewing the logic of the inputs to avoid the pitch distance changing when the module does. On the bright side, changing the meteorological source will not have an effect on GCR. You'd like to mix different string sizes and different models of inverters in the same design. Noted.

We hope your East-West ongoing projects are a success.
Happy holidays and new year!

  ### 15. Green Field Development

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

-Great support staff that listens to issues and resolves them quickly.
-Easy to use
-Very quick to prepare layouts and do optimization for early-stage development.
-LCOE tools help evaluate trade-offs between production and costs.
-The reports help show equipment and layouts to stakeholders.
-(Update) Introduction of PVCollada that allows importing into PVSyst to make simulations easier.
-(Update) Addition of half tables to add more capacities in the project area.
-(Update) AC Coupled BESS Systems can be shown on layouts.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

-PVCollada features work great for SAT; unfortunately, there are still some issues with fixed-tilt systems.
-Inability to model trees and structures causing near shading for energy modeling.
-Inability to consider terrain for energy modeling.
-Inability to specify the exact location of electrical equipment.
-(Update) Inability to manually change the name of projects that are created, although this can be done by sending an email to Rated Power and they're quite quick about changing it.
-(Update) Currently, only AC-coupled BESS systems can be shown but no DC-coupled systems or energy modeling is possible.

**Recommendations to others considering RatedPower:**

If the points indicated that we don't like could be addressed, that would make the tool even better. We would not have to rely on doing additional modelling in PVSyst.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The main benefit is identifying how large a project would fit on a specific property and optimising (production versus cost) for the layout. We have also used it to compare existing designs to see how they compare to what pvDesign would design.

**Official Response from Natalia Opie Dávila:**

> Hello Michal,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review pvDesign in G2! We're glad you find our tool useful for your PV plant optimization process.

As you may now, we are constantly working on new developments and improvements that will hopefully make pvDesign the one and only tool you'll need for early stage PV plant development. Also, good news regarding the 3D scene export: we are working on providing a file that is PVSyst ready.

Have a great day!

  ### 16. pvDesign, a fantastic tool for developers

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ryan S. | General Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 30, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

The speed in which a site can be defined and a design created is phenomenal. Not only can you have the pvDesign auto-create a site layout and electrical design, but you can then have it automatically create a comparison of up to ten variations on that design by DC Ratio or Pitch.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

The lack of ability to define the site location, boundary and key features from within pvDesign is a significant hurdle to the workflow. Having to work within other tools such as Google Earth and AutoCAD to create the site KML/KMZ file is a pain point and doesn't reflect a finished professional product - something that RatedPower should focus on rectifying quickly.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

pvDesign solves the issue of having to invest significant time and resource in the early site assessment phase of development work. It allows for a site and sites to be assessed and compared quickly and to a good level of accuracy.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Hi Ryan!

Thanks so much for taking the time to review pvDesign.

Regarding the lack of ability to define the site location right in the software, good news! We've just released the interactive site creator feature. You can now create your site from scratch in pvDesign or edit your KML/KMZ imports. Get alerts when required elements are missing and get results faster.

You can make all the design process in pvDesign —from site definition to engineering documentation. The new interactive site creation flow will allow you both —to create the site from scratch in pvDesign or edit your Google Earth files on the go:

— Shorten the time you spend creating the site.
— No need of jumping up between Google Earth and pvDesign for site creation.
— Get warnings and alerts when required elements of your site are missing.

You can learn more on how to do it in the article I'm sharing below.

Hope this helps, Ryan!

  ### 17. Best first-hand -help design tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Víctor Alexi C. | Project Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

After two years of use (started in August 2020), the best feature is how quickly and detailedly the tool has adapted to the PV sector's needs. Compared with other competitors this is tool provides the fastest initial answer

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Particularly for the Italian market, it is absolutely necessary to adapt a function that integrates underground interconnections (including its CAPEX calculation). Solely focusing on the design of the plant still gives an incomplete spectrum for a first-hand-help tool.

**Recommendations to others considering RatedPower:**

Be aware that pvDesign's Yield Estimation tool might not be entirely accepted for PPA's negotiations until it meets the requirements that other competitors have. It is also suggested to update interconnection calculations and specifications once pvDesing's documentation is ready to be downloaded.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Recent updates go to details such as meteo-data customization, topographic contour lines and yield estimation. Therefore it enables the possibility of having quick results for an initial analysis.

**Official Response from Irene Negro:**

> Hello Victor Alexi,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review pvDesign! We're glad the tool is proving itself useful in your design processes.

We are currently working on the overhead line calculation, and it will be reflected in the CAPEX templates, giving the possibility to define new inputs related to it. Regarding bankability negotiations, and in order to verify the quality of pvDesign results, here's a link to the Black & Veatch review, where they certify our energy model.

Thank you very much for your feedback. Have a great day!

  ### 18. Review - Owners/developper of solar farms

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Most useful is the ability to quickly create designs on a given plot of land. This allows us to have a good understanding of the capacity we can fit on the terrain. Plus it gives a lot of insights on possible layouts, best technology for the specific requirements and limitations of the project.
PVDesign is very easy to use and very quick.

Being able to produce layouts within minutes and compare between different designs is amazing.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

I have had some issues with the BOQ counts being different from the layouts and from the summary of the design. I have raised a ticket for this.

Another few points that I find could be useful would be:
-Allow for differentiation of the max slope facing for South-facing and North-facing slopes.
-Allow for multi-design for the angle parameter on fixed tilts structures.
-There seems to be a slight difference in geolocation between GEarth and PVDesign. Not sure if that has been spotted before. (Shifted boundary)
-Ideally a modification of the design once it's been created (moving some roads or arrays around) could be a great addition which would allow us to use PV-Design only. At the moment, we only use it as a preliminary tool.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gets rid of the hours spent on AutoCAD or else creating preliminary layouts. It is a great tool for Solar Farm sizing and project analysis.

Without it, we have to spend hours on CAD to fit arrays and therefore have less margin(iterations) to improve our layouts.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Thank you for your detailed feedback! We're glad to hear that you find PVDesign easy to use and quick for creating solar farm designs. We apologize for the issues you've encountered with BOQ counts and other suggestions you've mentioned. Our team is working on addressing these issues and we appreciate your patience. Your input is valuable for us to improve the platform.

  ### 20. Best alternative for speeding up preliminary design

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luis Guilherme B. | Solar Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2021

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

The speed to obtain a design and several variations of it and the fact that's an ever developing platform.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

A few typos in PT-BR and the impossibility of generating park splits into a solar complex design.

**Recommendations to others considering RatedPower:**

I would recommend having a handful of projects to test it up to the limit. Besides, I would recommend a test team with at least two engineers, an electrical and civil one. And if you need speed, that's for sure the best alternative around.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm developing preliminary engineering documentation to support development decisions, environmental licensing, regulatory approvals and EPC contracting processes.

**Official Response from Irene Negro:**

> Hello Luis Guilherme,

Thank you for the great review all around and your feedback, we highly appreciate you took the time to write your opinion in G2!

Have a great day!

  ### 21. Very user-friendly and has everything you need in designing Solar Plants

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jodel M. | Project Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 01, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Almost everything is automated. Minimal inputs required. Great for creating initial design. And the best part is, they have almost everything. An update is done once in a while and additional features are included.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

PV Stringing. Stringing is not customizable. It would be great to have this feature to make the design more accurate. But an update is done once in a while and features are being added.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sizing of the PV Plant using basic parameters. It's a great help for initial design and business development. One the day site visit and design can be done using this software.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Thank you for sharing your experience with RatedPower. We're pleased to know that it's benefiting you in sizing PV plants and aiding in site visits and design. We'll continue to update the software to meet your needs.

Here you have the rationale of stringing https://knowledgebase.ratedpower.com/why-cant-i-increase-the-number-of-strings-per-structure

  ### 22. Spectacular Design Power on the Desktop

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jeff C. | Chief Project Development Officer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

1. I like the ease of making designs.
2. The speed at which the desktop layout gets converted into a full design is astounding.
3. The depth of the design is spectacular.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

There is nothing notable that I dislike about the software.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I almost want to call the software a trade secret.

* It provides designs to code for low-voltage, medium-voltage, and high-voltage cabling. It provides designs to code for the substation and high-voltage poles.

* It tells me the location of all the piles - almost 50,000 on a 200 MW project.

In minutes.

**Official Response from Altair Veiga:**

> Hi Jeff!

Thanks a lot for the amazing review! We’re glad to know that you found the software very helpful in many ways. Please feel free to contact us at support@ratedpower.com in case you have any questions.

  ### 23. It is very user friendly

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 11, 2023

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

creating n number of designs , fast and most accurate result.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

it should have the option to consider both horizontal and vertical roads since this gives the most optimum results.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It saves lot of time when compared to do the layout manually.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Thank you for sharing your positive experience with RatedPower. We're happy to hear that you find it user-friendly and that it saves you time. We'll definitely take your feedback about considering both horizontal and vertical roads into account for future improvements.

  ### 24. Good automatic software for first approach. Good Listing of customers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vincent D. | COE Regional manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Automatic generation of a lot of documents usefull.
Good client service and improvements.
Easy to use and to share with non technical colleagues.
Competitors needs Full autocad for a major part.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Some frustrating parameters (like for transformer station which block full power sometimes).
Need to switch from Google Eart to PVDesign several times
Road drawing should be improve.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gain a lot of time during prospection as developers can obtain quick design.
BOQ generation with some interesting output.
SLD generated.
Capacity to generate several options to compare and choose.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Hi Vincent!

First things first: thanks so much for taking the time to review pvDesign. We truly appreciate it. I'll share the love with the Customer Success and support folks here.

Regarding the three issues you brief on the dislike part of the review, we have good news:

— With regards to the transformer station input that blocks full power, are you referring to uninstalled peak power? It would be great to understand what you expect from pvDesign that we don't currently do. Our technical team will reach out to you in case you'd like to provide further detail. This resource on installing max peak power option might help: https://knowledgebase.ratedpower.com/how-to-decrease-your-pv-plants-unused-peak-power

— Switching from Google Earth to pvDesign is gone with the brand new interactive site creator (link below). You can now a) import a base kml to pvDesign and keep on editing on our tool or b) create a site from scratch using pvDesign. While using the site creator you'll get warnings and alerts when stuff required in the site is missing.

— We've improved the road and cable algorithm. The new algorithm produces roads which are closer to the structures, similarly to how a rubber band adapts to irregular shapes. This improvement is especially noticeable with configurations using perimeter roads and complicated site definitions. Additionally, LV cables are now less likely to be laid down outside the fence area, especially when they have to cross restricted areas, in which case they will follow the existing fence.

Hope this helps!

  ### 25. very intuitive and quick

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

it is pretty quick to start a project and fill all the needed options to have a first impression of the project, its power and its production. The graphic is intuitive and enough user friendly.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

It is annoying not having a go back button to cancel the last changed item.
It would be nice to have an estimation of the energy production during the creating phase.
PVdesign does not allow you to insert details that may change a project, for example, different equipment in different parts of the plant.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

it gives a quick first impression of a project without the need to invest more time and money in more sophisticated solutions, it is good for a first go no go step.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Thank you for your positive feedback on RatedPower's intuitive interface. We understand your frustration with the lack of a go back button and the inability to insert project details.

Here you have some new features it'll help you with those issues. We recently revamped the design process (https://knowledgebase.ratedpower.com/revamp-design-process). With the new UI you can:
— Get a track history of changes in your design. Easly pick some past design in the proyect.
— Key performance and cost indicators are attached for each design iteration while designing.
— And lastly, you can now have different input parameters per available area (https://knowledgebase.ratedpower.com/inputs-per-area)

  ### 26. Great for screening! Need flexibility for moving Transformers.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Very good for making quick assessments, but that also works well further through the project by being export the module table layout. The latest addition of the full- and half-tables were also a very important feature.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Not being able to move roads and transformers means that other softwares need to be used later in the project and because of that the AC-design is not useable or trustable.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gives us an early design which we can then translate into Excel in terms of size and then we can translate that back into several designs to do PVSysts on, while also being able to replicate the best design again in PVDesign. The software is very accurate in making this module table layout.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Hey there!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to review the tool :).

Last August we launched an improved layout roads and cable algorithm. Find a below/after example on the link below.

Thanks for your feedback!

  ### 27. Review to make PV Design a top-notch software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pradeep S. | Manager - Design and engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Quick renewable system design, which requires less manual correction after PV design

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

A few important aspects are missing like-
1) Shadow analysis for solar module location in layout.
2) Heatmap for slope identification
3) BOM quantities are on the higher side a few times and need manual correction

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Preparing a technical proposal by doing lots of LCOE iterations for layout, generation and cost. Saving time and human resources, increase business performance and reducing manual work

**Official Response from Natalia Opie Dávila:**

> Hello Pradeep,

We are thrilled to hear that pvDesign accelerates your workflow. We'll keep up the good work!

Your feedback is well received.
On one hand, yes, nowadays we provide slope identification through a representation of the terrain slopes using arrows (Location tab < Topography < 'See details'), and through the option of setting structure installation limits. No heat map yet. I will forward this request to the Product team.
On the other hand, if you would like to share with us which BOM entries are being overestimated, please do. Feel free to reach out to support@ratedpower.com.

Thank you very much for your positive review. I am confident that there are some 2023 features that you'll find very useful.

Best regards,

  ### 28. User friendly engineering tool for quick assessment

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

The interface is efficient and straightforward. It can be used either by a technical engineer or a project engineer.
The software is regularly updated and includes users feedback.
Output deliverables are prepared in a minute.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

1) In layout/power requirements, even though the number of inverters and the peak power are fixed, the calculated "rated power" and "peak power" are often different from our own estimation.
The modules in red (unused peak ) should be selectable to understand why they are unused and what can be done to allow their activations.

2) The design of the main substation is somehow limited. For instance, I may require a step-up transformer with specific characteristics and more than one connection to the grid.
3) To improve the BOQ, it would be great to allow manual adjustment (in some sites, roads are not vertical or horizontal, and ITS positions may already be fixed).
4) Similarly, the cable routing should provide manual adjustment.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

At early stage of a project, PV design can be used to compare different design solutions to help finding the optimum design.
Before starting the detailed engineering, thanks to the generated Bill Of Quantities, I can consult contractors to evaluate the cost of the plant without engaging high number of ressources.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Thank you for your detailed feedback! We're glad to hear that you find our interface efficient and user-friendly. We appreciate your suggestions for improvement and will definitely take them into consideration for future updates.

  ### 30. Found PV design more helpful during the Preliminary Stages of design

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** SHYAM S. | Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 16, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Pv design provides automated layout along with Slope analysis and we can exclude the areas of excess slope. Also, we could get the usable and constraint areas in a tabular form.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

a) There was an "Oops" error we could often see, b) 2. Sometimes, if the components have same names, the user-selected components automatically updates to the other component under same name and takes its properties. The names may be same, but wrt the physical properties, they differ and hence the stringing gets disturbed.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is mostly providing automated layouts which helps us in preparing preliminary plant layouts. It helps our Business development team to quickly evaluate a particular region of installation.

**Official Response from Irene Negro:**

> Hello Shyam, thank you so much for your review.

I have to agree with you: the topography tool is very useful for our clients when excluding areas with steep slopes.
I would like to better understand the problems you had with the components that had the same name. Please, can you tell us more in detail how it happened? What kind of component (modules, inverters)?

It would be very helpful for us to understand it in order to solve it.
I´ve contacted you through email.

Thanks in advance for your response.

  ### 31. I used it regularly to build site maps, layout designs, and model incoming solar radiation

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 04, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

PV design layout is great. Understanding where the roads will be laid out, angles of the panels, etc. allows landowners to visualize what the project will look like on their property. Adds a very professional touch.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

I found developing my own CAPEX report to be very challenging. I think that PVdesigns used have market values or approximate values for pricing of panels/inverteres/cabling etc. This would make it more functional. I found researching the cost of the material to be very cumbersome and time consuming.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PVDesign allows me to layout engineering drawings for my projects to use when I am interacting with potential clients. It gives me a detailed reference to show how their land will be transformed. I use it most in prospecting landlowners for PV developments at utility scale(>50MW)

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Hey there!

Thanks so much for taking the time to review pvDesign :).

Our support team can load into your account a bunch of IRENA' CAPEX templates for selected geographies. Please, reach them out at support@ratedpower.com and they'll be happy to help you!

Also, over this quarter we'll be revamping the CAPEX tool. Find in the link below the signup page to our Live Product Updates :).

Hope this helps!

  ### 32. Time saver

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hua F. | Assistant Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Its simplicity to use, excellent customer service, and continuous product updates.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

The downside will be that if there are two or more polygon and I want to use the option of maximum peak capacity, sometimes it wouldn't use some of the polygons.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Their customer service is attentive and takes our opinion seriously, which I can see in their product updates, making my designs more manageable and faster.

**Official Response from Natalia Opie Dávila:**

> Hello Hua,

Thank you so much for your stunning review. Especially for the "excellent customer service" remarks. My team will be happy to hear it.

Your review was submitted over a month ago. Since then, we launched a feature that might help you on maximizing the land use of your project.

Since December 5th, our users can set custom DC/AC ratio limits when simulating with 'Maximum Capacity' + 'Install Maximum Peak Power'. An area can be left empty if the inverter selected is too big: there may not be enough DC power (structures that fit) to install one inverter. In other words, the installable DC power may be inferior to the AC power of one inverter (times the DC/AC ratio, times the power factor if enabled). Possible solutions are a) choosing a smaller inverter, b) selecting a secondary inverter smaller than the primary inverter to be installed in those areas, and c) decreasing the DC/AC ratio. By making the range of possible DC/AC ratios wider, you will be able to use those smaller areas. If you want more information, feel free to email us at support@ratedpower.com.

We sincerely hope you have an enjoyable holiday.
Best regards,

  ### 33. Tool with many solutions, but still has elements to improve.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** GLEDSON S. | GIS Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 05, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

The importance of topographical aspects, the database of equipment and structures, the speed, and the products generated.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

The interface still does not allow drawing with geodesic accuracy and without snaps like in CAD. The roads are represented with a single axis, but they should be represented with two lines indicating the edges. The interface does not allow increasing the dimensions of the Powerstation. It is not possible to upload digital terrain models in raster format (.tif/.grid/.dem....)

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PVDesign allows me to create preliminary layouts of large plants quickly.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate your positive comments about the topographic aspects, equipment and structure database, speed, and generated products.

  ### 34. pvDesign Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Weston C. | Electrical Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Overall, the software is quite simple to learn. There is also a lot of help in the Knowledge Base, and the customer support staff are super helpful too.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Some tutorials on adding sites from AutoCAD or QGIS would be helpful if they haven't already been made.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

pvDesign is helping us to see different options for solar layouts as we get into constructing larger sites.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Hi Weston!

Thanks so much for taking the time to review our tool.

Here you have some articles from the knowledge base to add new sites into pvDesign:

— Export a .kml or .kmz site file from AutoCAD: https://knowledgebase.ratedpower.com/how-to-convert-cad-to-kml-kmz
— Export a .kml or .kmz site file from QGIS: https://knowledgebase.ratedpower.com/how-to-convert-a-cad-file-to-kml/kmz
— Load it into pvDesign https://knowledgebase.ratedpower.com/how-to-create-a-site

Also, we recently launched the interactive site creator, allowing you to draw the site directly in the tool. Please, find attached the article about it in the link below.

Thanks, Weston!

  ### 35. Intuitive and Easy to use

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

I have found the tool quite intuitive and easy to use from first use. Once costing templates have been developed, it provides the user recommendations of the most optimum design when a parameter is given a range to consider for the design (such as pitch, GCR, etc.). The tool rapidly provides a comprehensive comparison chart with critical parameters to allow a fast high level assessment.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

While pvDesign is good at providing assessments on developments, the ability to create detailed designs is still in its infancy. One specific item I would like to see implemented within pvDesign is to allow the user to nominate the position for the power plant.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

pvDesign has significantly reduced the hours required for site suitability assessment, this provides more time for the design team to work on meaningful tasks within the business unit.

**Official Response from Irene Negro:**

> Thank you so much for your review!

Costing templates indeed have added more value and a better understanding of the desings. We’ll share your feedback with our product team.

Thanks again for your comments. Happy New Year!

  ### 36. The most powerful pv design software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2021

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

All in one platform, from layout to yield and bill of material!

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Creating a site in Google earth is a bit time consuming.

**Recommendations to others considering RatedPower:**

Try it and you will love it!

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fast and efficient design to optimise a project

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Update August 2022

Hope this helps!

  ### 37. PV Design as a complete sofware for developpers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Khalil T. | Solar PV Project Lead Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

I believe that the software integrates all features for developers (Design, configuration, Interconnexion, overhead lines), allowing a more profound understanding on the feasibility of the Project

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

I would prefer if there were a plug-in interface to setting up boundaries and MV stations other than google earth software. Also, regarding the shading analysis, it could be better to integrate it.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The vital aspect that pushes us to purchase the software is the time-saving in designing multiple configurations, technologies and also the database of the equipments.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Hey Khalil!

Thanks a lot for reviewing pvDesign. We really appreciate it.

Regarding the site creation a couple of weeks ago we launched the interactive site creator. It allows you to define the whole site (what you used to do in Google Earth) directly into pvDesign. This way you get warnings while designing and avoid the back and forth between Google Earth and pvDesign.

Regarding the shading analysis, as a workaround you can export the shading scene into PVsyst using the PVCollada file from pvDesign. Here you have the KB articles: https://knowledgebase.ratedpower.com/kb-search-results?term=pvcollada

Hope this helps, Khalil!

Thanks again!

  ### 38. I use pvDesign for quick layout generation, but waiting for more

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

I use pvDesign for quick layout generation. It is easy to proceed to iteration in order to find the optimal design. Having also energy production evaluation and LCOE calculation in the same tool is awesome. But improvements are needed in these two topics.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

The OPEX cost estimation is not detailed, which makes the LCOE calculation very poor. It would be great to have the same level of detail as for the CAPEX costs.
Regarding the energy production estimation, unfortunately, the electrical effect of shading is far from reality, and the topography is not considered.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A quick analysis of fields for PV plant construction, avoid using several softwares on which you have to do a lot of things manually.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Hi there!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to review pvDesign.

— Detailed OPEX estimation: This is something our team is currently working on. We don't have a release date yet but it's in our roadmap.

— Topography and energy estimate: pvDesign does not consider the topography in the energy calcs since we only do 2D. As a workaround you can download the PVCollada file (https://knowledgebase.ratedpower.com/how-to-upload-a-pvcollada-tracker-scene-to-pvsyst) and upload it to PVsyst to get the energy yield estimate there.

We turned to Black & Veatch to compare pvDesign’s energy yield module to PVsyst output in four real-life cases. Deltas range between +0.24% and +1.08%. Find the full B&V report in the link below.

Hope this helps!

  ### 39. Intuitive, quick and easy solar PV energy yield assessment and system design

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 15, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

The user interface is slick and easy to use. It's also very easy to load external data representing solar resources, site locations etc. Finally, the automatic reporting and detailed outputs are useful to show to external stakeholders.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Despite a white paper and independent review of their methodology, pvDesign has yet to reach bankable status and so PVsyst remains the industry standard. Once bankability is achieved, pvDesign will go to the next level!

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

pvDesign allows quick and easy, yet robust assessments of energy yield. It is quick to learn, so junior analysts can produce useful work with supervision from more experience team members. Colleagues in other teams love the consistency of the reporting format.

**Official Response from Natalia Opie Dávila:**

> Thank you for taking the time to review pvDesign.

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

The ease of simulating with different equipment and many variables with which to adapt to the needs of the client. And the continuous improvement of the application makes it more and more useful and faster to work with.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Not being able to modify the selected designs and update the parameters of the reports, plans, etc.

It would also be nice to have a little more information in the final summary instead of downloading documents such as the BoQ, single-line diagrams, energy loss spreadsheet, etc.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gives us much more capacity to carry out and optimize land evaluation and projects in the processing phase.

**Official Response from Jeffrey Martinez:**

> Hello pvDesign user, thank you for sharing your comments. It´s important for us to have a user friendly interface that adapts to our client´s needs.

To modify a design we have the "clone" tool, by clicking on this option it is possible to edit the parameters of an existing project and generate a new design. The "clone" tool saves time when trying different configurations for a design.
Although at the moment the single-line diagrams and BOQ are only available when downloading the documentation, you can consult a summary of energy production, module losses, electrical system losses, solar resource data, albedo and horizon. You only need to click on the generated project to consult all this information.

Thank you very much for sharing your comments. Also, we are happy to hear that pvDesign helped you to optimize your projects. We will continue working to take pvDesign to the next level!

Have a great day!

  ### 45. Sergio, Director Solar PV BDTS from ACWA Power

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sergio M. | E, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2021

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

It's the fastest way to do layout and check max DC capacity you can accommodate in an available land. Unbeatable tool to optimize projects LCOE by comparing lots of designs variations. Very reliable and with continuous updates. The customer service is one of the best you can find out there

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

You can not mix 2 watt classes of PV modules in the same design. Sometimes suppliers can not provide only one watt class for manufacturing limitation and they provide a mix. I hope this is something to be updated in future versions.

**Recommendations to others considering RatedPower:**

If you work in a developer or EPC and you want to asssess multiple designs that leads to the best LCOE for your projects, this is your tool

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Comparison of several designs in detailed stage to be able to define which one has the best LCOE. BOQ help our costing team to determine the CAPEX quickly. Rough estimation for P50 generation very close to bankable sources as PVSyst

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Updated August, 2022:

Hey Sergio, we launched some months ago support for East-West structures. It is now possible to simulate fixed structures in east-west orientation.

To do so, enable the east west structures option in the design process page. The ridge distance between east and west tables can be modified, as well as the configuration of the piles. It is also possible to change how the strings are connected to the inverter MPPT systems.

The strings from both orientations are connected to the inverters using separate low voltage DC electrical systems. The new structures can be seen in the layout documents, and also in the design and energy reports.

***

Hello Sergio,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review pvDesign! We're glad the tool is proving itself useful in your design processes.

As always, thank you very much for the feedback, it is very valuable for us.

Have a great day!

  ### 46. A great bit of software

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

It is quick to get started on, quite versitile and intuitive, you can make some nice layouts and doccuments which are impressive to the client, including sinlge line diagrams.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

When you clone projects some values go back to default and they have to be changed manually, not all are copied over.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is good to get a quick design for a client for indicative pricing and get some nice templates for reports when they would like a few doccuments but you are still at the early indicative stage with little information fro mthe client.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Hi there!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to review our software. We're glad you're finding it useful and helping you.

We've passed this feedback to the product team. We're aware changing certain things (i.e. equipment) automatically recalculates other parameters —thus changing what you had initially.

If you'd like to connect with the product team, let us know at support@ratedpower.com so we can understand better how you use this feature.

Thanks a lot!

  ### 47. Great Software Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel U. | Legal Representative, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 06, 2021

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

User friendly interface, and design capabilities

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Lack of batteries and some inflexibilities

**Recommendations to others considering RatedPower:**

Batteries are becoming an essential part of the industry, and PVDesign doesn't have such capability. Hence., it is crucial to include it.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

First basic design and BOQ estimation, now you can have a design comparison which is quite interesting for optimization purposes.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Updated on 2022 Late June:

Daniel, we just shipped our AC-coupled BESS feature on pvDesign. Now you can hybridize your current or new PV projects. We've added three new reports related to batteries in our deliverable list.

——

Thank you very much for taking the time to review pvDesign!

  ### 48. PVdesign is smart and quick solution for solar pv engineers and decision makers.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

Fast design software with interesting outputs from design layouts and reports to RFQ and CAPEX/OPEX evaluation. This wide range of results could be consulted by engineers, business developer and decision-makers in a short time.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Some design issues exist as an example: inverters location cannot be manually imposed, inverter and PV panels should be up to date to shorten the time for (*.pan) file request from suppliers or rated power team.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

pvDesign allows you to process different client request and configuration for the same site in a short time.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Hi there!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to review pvDesign. We really appreciate it.

The goal of pvDesign is to provide quick PV plant designs through an intuitive interface - to do that, we automate many decisions; one being inverter location.

However, our long-term view for the tool is that it can cater to detailed engineering-focused PV professionals. Thanks for sharing your interest on this functionality. Note taken! Thanks!

With regard to "shorten the time for *.pan file requests, we do frequent database update campaigns were we contact the main manufacturers our there. But, yep, thanks for your feedback!

Find attached the signup page for our Quarterly Product Updates, where our product and engineering teams debrief the latest on our tool :).

  ### 49. Valuable tool for preliminary design

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Renewables & Environment | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 31, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

User-friendly. Allows users to easily produce multiple designs and gain an excellent idea of a field's potential capacity and a large amount of important info (field inclination data, earthwork requirements etc.). Field input data is easily customizable through google earth allowing great flexibility in processing different data types (kml, dxf etc) to process the data on different platforms.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

Does not adjust pitch between PV tables according to N-S ground inclination/topography. Only takes into account 1 pitch setting. Not suitable for tackling small fields (approximately <10.000m2) due to string design limitations and the PV structure (mounting system) - PV string correlation.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Very valuable, time-saving tool thanks to the easily customizable polygon creation system and the topography data it can take into account. Significantly reduces preliminary design time.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback on RatedPower! We're thrilled to hear that you find our tool user-friendly and valuable for preliminary design work. We appreciate your insights on areas for improvement, such as adjusting pitch settings and addressing limitations for small fields. Your feedback helps us enhance our platform to better meet your needs.

If you have any further suggestions or encounter any issues, please feel free to reach out to our support team. We are here to assist you and ensure you have a seamless experience with our tool. Thank you for choosing RatedPower!

  ### 50. Good tool to quickly layout your PV design

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Velimir L. | Managing Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2022

**What do you like best about RatedPower?**

pvDesign allows to quickly layout PV design by simply importing GIS information. Also, defining inputs such as equipment specification, industry standards, etc., is straightforward and fast. There are various options to set up plant orientation, roads, and other inputs that would otherwise need to be done manually. This saves a lot of time if you need to get your initial design quickly. Also, generating documentation is super fast - as soon as the design is done, drawings and reports in PDF and native format can be downloaded. Also, since it is a web-based solution, it can be accessed from anywhere, which is convenient.

**What do you dislike about RatedPower?**

There is no possibility to procure a permanent license. Instead, there is an annual subscription fee. Software is not cheap, and this may not be the perfect solution for users who have a limited number of projects each year. There is a possibility to rent software on a project or monthly basis, but again that may not be flexible enough. It is highly recommended to have more flexible pricing to differentiate between smaller and bigger users.

**What problems is RatedPower solving and how is that benefiting you?**

pVDesng was used for high-level preliminary design of a PV plant. Software took care of the layout, equipment selection, generating drawings, and high-level calculations. Sure, there is more work to be done if details need to be determined, but this gives you an excellent idea about your PV design with minimal effort and time spent.

**Official Response from Emilio García Sánchez:**

> Thank you for rating us, Velimir. Your kind words inspire us keep improving.

Regarding the licenses questions: We truly believe pricing plans match the value the software provides for the whole PV plant project stage. Entry-level plan works in a pay-per-project scheme —including unlimited users and designs per project.

In any case, our sales team is happy to address any pricing question. Thanks a lot, Velimir.
