Also, custom fields still do not always allow full customization desired (ex. setting defaults, etc.). **What problems is Rally Software solving and how is that benefiting you?** This is allowing our company to proactively plan and execute our product upgrades. Good user interface made it very easy to navigate and use on a daily basis. **What do you dislike about Rally Software?** Coming from Target Process I really miss being able to view attachments without having to first download them. But, otherwise was very happy. Also, the roadmap feature was not very flexible so we were not able to use it and continued to do it in Powerpoint. **Recommendations to others considering Rally Software:** If you're looking for a solution that will be around for a while, this is a good one. You can create any number of views and each one can be setup to show a particular set of data, with customized columns, sorting, and grouping. CA Agile Central is very flexible and easy to configure. **What do you dislike about Rally Software?** Some processes are a little cumbersome. We created a hierarchy of user stories. Each user story ultimately has a set of tasks associated with it. When you need to update a large number of tasks for these user stories, it takes quite a bit of cumbersome navigation to get it done. Perhaps there is a better way to do this in the system, but if so, it was not obvious/intuitive. **What problems is Rally Software solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our organization uses the product to track user stories for many large projects, keep track of estimates, tasks, and time remaining. I belong to a group of process analysts and we have created our own project to track the process-related work that we need to complete. Easy to generate reports and charts to track the status of projects as well as performance of teams and individual team members. **What do you dislike about Rally Software?** Being an external service, you are subject to outages which happen a little too frequently. There is so much information and so many features that it can be difficult to find what you are looking for. **Recommendations to others considering Rally Software:** It works really well for our (fairly large) organization. You will definitely need something to collaborate across any sizable workforce and CA Agile Central gets the job done (most of the time). As a product/project management tool, it's pretty much fine and hits all the nails that you need to keep a well-oiled, process-rich engineering team going. **What do you dislike about Rally Software?** The UI looks like it was built in the Windows '95 era, and everything takes three times as many clicks as it should. Things are slow to load, and notifications and integrations with other products is *extremely* limited, so everything that happens in Rally pretty much stays in Rally. But few product/engineering teams these days use only 1 tool, so not having those integrations and more robust notifications to facilitate collaboration is actually a huge cost to our team. When engineering works on a task and has a clarification question (e.g. for product, design, etc), adding it to the "discussion" on that story/bug is no guarantee that anyone else will notice it and respond. This has created a lot of friction and slowed progress. **Recommendations to others considering Rally Software:** Do your diligence and test out other project/product management tools thoroughly! It's just not intuitive. Additionally, it would be helpful to be able to create specific requirements for user story entries. Instead, we had to ask our team to put certain information in the free-form text box and then hope they followed the rules. **Recommendations to others considering Rally Software:** It takes time to spin up. I would recommend you have at least 1 person familiar with using CA Agile Central in order to make it easier to move quickly in the beginning. **What problems is Rally Software solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are solving the need to appropriately manage our agile development lifecycle. The ability to communicate has allowed us to work across timezones and countries in a way that would have required more calls and more time otherwise. So, in short, it has helped with efficiency. Additionally, we were able to use this to manage our UX Design team and their lifecycle in the same manner. Once that is done it is fairly easy to go to more granular views of the tasks, their state, tasks, and so on. Overall the software is easy to use with a pretty minimal learning curve. **What do you dislike about Rally Software?** The previous UI for Rally was much better at color-coding (the new one has everything as blue which, while pretty enough, is not as quick at relying info) The pie chart view has not been very useful to our particular needs Rally works on the idea of one-person one-task, but we frequently do team-programming on tasks. This makes it harder to go back and figure out what each person was working on (unless specifically listed in the story description, but that info doesn't belong there). Stories carrying over into new sprints is currently a bit nebulous in regard to how they affect burn-downs and such. Eg. if a 3 point story has 2.5 points completed, when we carry it over it still seems like a 3 point story and we have to do mental mathematics to figure out how much work there is left / how much we can take on. Not difficult, but leads to inconsistencies between how teams use the tool and is messy. Kanban still feels a bit uncomfortable to me personally. **Recommendations to others considering Rally Software:** Great software, absolutely give it a try! **What problems is Rally Software solving and how is that benefiting you?** Coordinating teams in a variety of scrum-lite projects. The current project is playing out more kanbansince there are a lot of user-requests interrupting a standard scrum plan. We tried using the iteration status method but we will likely be switching to the Kanban view shortly. The project before this one was a more traditional development project and knowing our velocity for each sprint was more critical, rally's iteration status worked great for that. ### 44.
