**What do you like best about QuerySurge?**

What I like best about QuerySurge is its ability to simplify and automate ETL data validation. During my ETL certification, I found its SQL-based testing approach very efficient for comparing source and target data. The low-code interface saves time by reducing manual effort, and automation features improve consistency. Its clear reports also make it easy to identify data issues quickly.

**What do you dislike about QuerySurge?**

One area for improvement is the user interface, which can feel less intuitive at times, especially for beginners. Setting up more complex test scenarios can require a learning curve and deeper understanding of queries. Performance can also slow down when handling very large datasets. Additionally, better integration options and more detailed documentation would make it easier to get started and work more efficiently.

**What problems is QuerySurge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

QuerySurge solves the challenge of manual and time-consuming ETL data validation by automating data comparisons between source and target systems. ### 8. Strong ETL Validation Tool with Limited JSON Source Support

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rakshith N. | Data quality Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2026

**What do you like best about QuerySurge?**

I evaluated QuerySurge using the trial version to understand how well it supports real-world ETL and data validation scenarios. From a structured data perspective, QuerySurge is a very solid platform. It provides strong connectivity to a wide range of enterprise systems including databases like Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake, Teradata, Redshift, and also BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Cognos, and SAP Web Intelligence. The interface for building source-to-target comparisons, validations, and reconciliation checks is intuitive and clearly designed for data warehouse and analytics testing teams.

**What do you dislike about QuerySurge?**

My primary use case, however, involves validating modern data pipelines where the source data is in JSON format, coming from APIs or application systems, and the target is a relational database or data warehouse. This is a very common pattern in today’s data architectures. During my evaluation, I found that QuerySurge does not support JSON files or REST API responses as a native data source. The available source types are mainly limited to databases, BI tools, and flat files like CSV or Excel. Because of this, JSON data must first be transformed and loaded into a database before QuerySurge can be used, which adds extra steps and reduces the effectiveness of true source-to-target validation.

It is not a dislike but its a gap.

**What problems is QuerySurge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The platform is quite powerful overall. Its automation, scheduling, and reporting capabilities are well suited for regression testing and ongoing data quality monitoring. For teams that work primarily with structured databases and BI systems, QuerySurge is a strong, reliable solution. That said, for teams building modern, API-driven and JSON-based pipelines, the lack of native support for JSON and other semi-structured data is a noticeable gap.

**Official Response from Bill Hayduk:**

>
Hi Rakshith,

Thanks for the thoughtful review and for evaluating QuerySurge in real-world scenarios.

We’re glad you found QuerySurge strong for structured data validation, with broad connectivity across enterprise databases and BI tools, and an intuitive interface for source-to-target testing, regression, and ongoing data quality monitoring.

You’re also right to point out the current gap around native support for JSON and REST API sources. While many teams land semi-structured data into a database as part of their ingestion process, we recognize that this adds steps and can limit true end-to-end validation for API-driven pipelines. This is an area we actively listen to customer feedback on as we continue to evolve the platform.

We appreciate you taking the time to share both the strengths and the gaps in your evaluation.

Regards,
Bill Hayduk

  ### 19. Effective ETL Testing with Room for Performance Improvement

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prashant P.

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2025

**What do you like best about QuerySurge?**

I am very satisfied with QuerySurge, as it serves as our primary tool for file-to-file and database-to-database comparisons. I rely on it to verify results and provide signoffs, and overall, I am happy with its performance. I particularly appreciate the Data Staging options that QuerySurge offers, as they seem to work very well for my needs. Additionally, the initial setup was very easy, making the transition to QuerySurge smooth and hassle-free.

**What do you dislike about QuerySurge?**

I find the performance of QuerySurge to be a significant challenge, especially when processing large datasets. Executing comparisons on more than 500,000 records can take over 30 minutes, and in the case of 5 million records, it takes roughly an hour. This impacts efficiency and I believe there’s room for improvement in processing speeds. Additionally, the tool doesn't provide detailed record-wise results for past queries, only showing percentages of pass and failure, which limits insight depth. When errors occur due to incorrectly mentioned fields in a query, QuerySurge does not offer specific guidance or suggested modifications, which can hinder troubleshooting efforts.

**What problems is QuerySurge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use QuerySurge for ETL testing and file/database comparisons, which is crucial for our result verification and signoffs. It handles larger data volumes better than our previous tool, Beyond Compare, though performance on large datasets could improve.

**What do you like best about QuerySurge?**

I find QuerySurge invaluable for QA validation due to its ability to effectively compare large amounts of data. Its user-friendly interface significantly aids in reporting and identifying differences between source and target datasets, making this process more efficient and less error-prone. I appreciate how easy it is to use, getting the job done without unnecessary complications. The software's capability to connect to multiple types of data sources—such as SQL, on-premises, cloud systems, and even using data files—adds tremendous value to its functionality. I also benefit greatly from its own API, which allows for dynamic interactions like changing snippet values and initiating scenarios, making it adaptable and versatile across different use cases. Additionally, its integration with other tools through API requests enhances our workflow, ensuring we can continue to leverage existing systems while making the most of QuerySurge's robust features.

**What do you dislike about QuerySurge?**

I find the current use of snippets in QuerySurge somewhat static and believe they could be more dynamic. It would be beneficial if snippets had the capability to store queries and other types of code to retrieve values from external sources. This would allow for more flexible use rather than just being a static piece of code or information to be combined within queries or XML.

  ### 21. Efficient Data Comparison, Needs Refinement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bruce D.

**Reviewed Date:** November 21, 2025

**What do you like best about QuerySurge?**

I really appreciate how QuerySurge facilitates the easy comparison of table data based on query pairs, allowing me to identify differences across various scenarios with efficiency. The ability to store scenarios that can be reused with different data connections is incredibly valuable for our regression suites, as it streamlines the process of running QA tests for each release. Once set up, I can effortlessly trigger these scenarios using specific database connections and have the results ready for review within just 10-20 minutes. Additionally, the capability to export the analysis into Excel is a major advantage, as it enables sharing detailed results with colleagues who might require a deeper dive into the data. Furthermore, the integration with Jenkins script for automating scenario triggers ensures flexible and time-efficient operations, especially for after-hours testing. Although I wasn't part of the initial setup team, my experience with updating QuerySurge to a new version was smooth, indicating the software is user-friendly in terms of maintenance and updates.

**What do you dislike about QuerySurge?**

Sometimes the analysis in QuerySurge creates false failures, such as when only one column in the table data is different, but multiple columns are highlighted as differences. This leads to confusion and false alerts. Additionally, when data are exactly the same and should match perfectly, they are occasionally incorrectly highlighted as discrepancies. This requires testers to manually scan rows or export data to Excel to apply formulas and verify that no true differences are being overlooked.

**What problems is QuerySurge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use QuerySurge for running QA tests, simplifying data comparison across scenarios, automating test runs, and exporting results for in-depth review, which enhances efficiency and accuracy.

  ### 34. QuerySurge is the best tool for your ETL needs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Oscar A. | Functional Test Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 27, 2024

**What do you like best about QuerySurge?**

When I was looking for some help in merging databases there were alot of options out there but none of them offered the comprehensive support that I needed. We were looking for some help in transfering our databases to the cloud and it was a daunting task to say the least with the millions of customers that we serve. With the numerous features that were available it was a great help that they offered aid every step of the way. They provide certification classes that demonstrate to the user how to use this software. With these certifications we were able to easily implement QuerySurge into our migration process. We used QuerySurge every day for testing and validating our data pools before and after migration. The automated testing made it so we could easily create automation to run during off hours and provide us with comprehensive and easy to read reports.

**What do you dislike about QuerySurge?**

The only downside I can think of was the small learning curve associated with learning this software. This is mitigated however by their excellent customer support and in depth certification process.

**What problems is QuerySurge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had an old database system in place that we needed to replace so when migrating to Oracle it is understandable that we wanted to eliminate any unnecessary or outdated entries. Being one of the oldest utility companies in the country we had several of these and QuerySurge was helpful in identifying these entries so we could correct or remove them.

  ### 35. Great tool for ETL Testing

The QuerySurge AI module is a time saver with creating data validation tests and increases my productivity with ETL Testing.

The QuerySurge support staff is also top notch.

**What do you dislike about QuerySurge?**

There isn't much to dislike about QuerySurge. The in-depth knowledge base and easy to contact support makes it easy to just pick it up and be effective with testing.

**What problems is QuerySurge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helps to simplify and speed up ETL testing.

  ### 36. Good fit for database testing scenarios

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 18, 2019

**What do you like best about QuerySurge?**

Ability to integrate with test cases and DevOps pipeline.

**What do you dislike about QuerySurge?**

During our PoC it took lot of time for querysurge to hit oracle metadata tables and get the column names. It could have been better if query surge had in memory function to store metadata.

**Recommendations to others considering QuerySurge:**

QuerySurge is great if you want to automate your DB testing. We found it useful but not a best tool to achieve desired results. Please evaluate the tool carefully to ensure it meets your requirements.

**What problems is QuerySurge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Automation testing and integration with CI pipeline
