"QuarkXPress Power User"
5/5
What do you like best about QuarkXPress?

I have been a dedicated QuarkXPress user since 2003. I had to learn the platform for my job as a graphic artist and have been a power user since QuarkXPress5. In addition to my current use of the platform to complete research papers and build curriculum, I've designed hundreds of marketing and sales flyers for companies across the globe. In my industry, the go-to has become Adobe InDesign, but I still prefer Quark for single page to multiple page documents. It is more user friendly, and easier to teach to new artists. For me, it is faster to layout a newspaper in Quark. I really like that Quark is now a cloud-based product. It will allow the company to push out updates and improvements in a more timely fashion. What do you dislike about QuarkXPress?

There really isn't anything that I dislike about the platform. It can be intimidating for a new user, but that is true with any robust software. I do recommend the use of a tutor for a new user. There are many short cuts and preference tweaks that can be made to create a better user experience. QuarkXPress is very versatile and can be used from single page formats to complicated multiple page magazines and newspapers. I do not have much experience using the platform to design webpages. "Pretty Full Featured - Minus Data Merge"
4/5
What do you like best about QuarkXPress?

I like that I can do weekly newsletter with ease because of text styles. It is possible to put text on curves. I love that I can edit images simply from the context menu or more fully from my chosen editing software. It exports to PDF nicely with options and I can create tables. It also imports PDF with unknown fonts without distortion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QuarkXPress?

No data merge. On one of my computers it runs really rough and slow. I have looked into data merge and you can if you understand coding - I don't and so it is not helpful to me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great program with a lot of helpful features, but some issues made me lower my score from 10 to 7."
3.5/5
What do you like best about QuarkXPress?

I love the HTML5 publishing features and the new responsive layouts. I've already used Quark for almost everything, but those features gave me even more options. I used HTML5 to get up a temporary website in about 20 minutes and half of that was me just selecting the photos I wanted to use. It's great. The table styles are cool, too. I know Quark, I'm comfortable with it, and it does everything I need it to do and more. I also like being able to buy my software and not rent it for the rest of my life. What do you dislike about QuarkXPress?

While I've had no issues with stability on my personal laptop, several in-office users have had serious stability issues that have caused them to repeatedly have to reinstall. Some were never able to open it at all. Quark tech support said it was likely because of font software and recommended we remove the font software, but that's not an option for an office that needs to use font software for other programs. Stability and support issues have to be better and, because of that, I had to knock 3 points off my score. Quark vastly improved their customer service in recent years, but a lot of users seem to be fearing they are reverting to old ways under new management. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Long-time user of Quarkxpress"
5/5
What do you like best about QuarkXPress?

Quarkxpress is the best tool for page layout. Whether it's a large magazine or a single page ad, I'll use Quark over Indesign. I've used both but prefer the speed and functionality of Quark. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QuarkXPress?

I think the gradient tool should be tweaked a bit so there are fewer steps to create and alter the colours. It works well as is but think reducing the number of steps to make the selections I need would be helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Everything you want and need from a desktop publishing package"
5/5
What do you like best about QuarkXPress?

The support from Quark is the best I've ever come across. Ask a question and they phone you from India, 24/7 to try to help you. The application itself is just what you need to do books, magazines, one-off designs, business cards, whatever. I even use it as a word processor as it is better than any dedicated WP, with possibly Apple Pages as runner-up.

I have been using QuarkXPress since version 3, after using Calamus and Pagemaker. It provided me with a great income through the 1990s when my client list included major international companies, galleries and others. I even created a Turner Prize entry, working with the artist. After a foray into inDesign running alongside Quark, up to CS5, I returned to QuarkXPress as the best option. I have tried Affinity products but QuarkXPress leaves them in the shade. As most print production nowadays is from PDFs it doesn't matter what you use to make the files as long as they run. Quark's always do 100%.

I especially like the new typography that Quark produces. You can always tell if work has been produced in other packages as Quark's defaults are far better than other application's. inDesign is especially weak in this area and unless users tweak kerning and letter spacing it is never as good as Quark's out of the box. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QuarkXPress?

I use QuarkXPress as a single design files, even with multi-chapter books, I seldom use the multi-tabs and tickets and all the palaver they need. I make books, magazines and newsletters mainly, with occasional posters, leaflets and so on. I might add that I am retired so these are all freebees for charities and so on. This means I don't need to swap work with other designers who have found themselves caught into inDesign's thrall. They wouldn't need to be, QuarkXPress is as good if not better at most things.

I would love to have a more capable book pallet that could encompass non-existent blank pages between chapters without actually putting them into the whole book PDF that one makes for clients.

Also, I used to use line screens to help bad images to print better or for 'artistic results'. I haven't seen this in QXP for many years, a sad omission. As were the aliens who one could command to march across the screen!

Finally I think I will struggle to be able to afford to keep Quark up-to-date as I earn nothing from using it. I feel they have had to become like Adobe in licensing which means I shall be forced to move to a different package that has a one-off for-life fee such as Affinity. "Not quite as slick as previous versions"
4/5
What do you like best about QuarkXPress?

Quark is still the go to choice for building documents quickly. Having used it for years many of the shortcuts are just flow through your fingers. It's like an old pair of shoes you just slip on because you know how comfortable they are... Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QuarkXPress?

The removal of some well used shortcuts is unnecessary and feels like it is dumbing down to match some of the 'features' of inDesign. The full res display means HUGE documents and makes it slower to render even on 2020 spec machines. It can feel a bit 'nervous' at times as the pages jerk around because of the full res display issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"QuarkXPress makes my life so much easier"
5/5
What do you like best about QuarkXPress?

Of all the design and layout programs I've used, QXP has been the most intuitive. When I first started using the program, I picked up basic steps right away (and I'm a slow learner when it comes to technology). Over the years the program has only improved (but remained easy to learn). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QuarkXPress?

If I had to name one thing I dislike, I would say ... not being able to email a QXP document. (Many people don't have the program, and the files generally tend to be too large to attach.) Of course, I've compensated by converting to a PDF or JPG, and that emails easily. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Slight learning curve, but now I prefer it to Adobe!"
5/5
What do you like best about QuarkXPress?

I like how easy it is to place images and to adjust the image settings for wrapping text around them etc. It's also very easy to import a new image into a previous image location if needed. The new Quark 2019 and 2020 improved their toolbar and moved it to the bottom so now it's much easier to edit fonts, size etc. I'm very happy with this change! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QuarkXPress?

Since the recent updates that came with the 2020 version, I'm honestly enjoying everything about QuarkExpress now and don't have any complaints! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Go to Art working software"
5/5
What do you like best about QuarkXPress?

Easy to use software, that allows me to produce results very quickly, From concept artwork to print ready documents. I also love how i can quickly edit artworks to turn from Print to Digital. Year on year quark bring new features to the software, Making it more powerful and simpler to use and less reliant on other 3rd party software to get the desired results. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about QuarkXPress?

There are always times where you want to try something new, I kinda wish that finding out how to do new things, or that there were a wide range of tutorials. Some times it can be trial and error Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
