What I like best about Qualtrics DesignXM is the ability it provides to streamline the entire process of designing and developing digital products. Its powerful visual editor allows you to build interfaces very quickly using an extensive library of components, and also to program the behavior between elements directly from the design rules without the need to code. Additionally, integration with Qualtrics Test&Survey makes it possible to easily export prototypes for user testing, collect usability metrics, and then import those valuable insights into the design for iterative improvement. While the variety of templates, widgets, and features available is vast and allows you to create virtually any type of project, for someone new to the world of quantitative design, the initial learning curve can be somewhat steep. It requires hours of practice and trial and error to fully master all the available menus, options, and shortcuts. From what I've observed, the interface undergoes quite a few modifications at times, which poses a difficulty when dealing with pre-existing surveys. For instance, it can be perplexing to locate the section for uploading the user list. Another frustration lies in the response coding, as it increments with deletions and additions. This requires vigilance to ensure your variables remain accurately coded. However, aside from these challenges, the tool has proven to be highly effective in its performance. I work for a school district analyzing and collecting data. Qualtrics has solved so many problems for us to provide a tool that we can both gather new data effectively while also providing tools for review and analyzing the data and categorizing it for historical use. There are still some cases that we haven't been able to find a solution for (some conditional formatting or calculations), but Qualtrics support is fantastic. One of our reps likes to use that "NO" is just missing the "K and the W = KNOW" meaning they can't solve all of your use cases, but they will work with you to try and find a solution. The most sophisticated surveying tool I've ever used. And it includes all the elements required for creating a survey. I definitely benefit from the ability to set up workflows and get department-specific approvals. The process of creating the survey has been made easier by the addition of pre-filled rating scales. Despite having a user-friendly interface, learning how to implement all of its capabilities might be difficult. Because of the UI's extraordinary feature set, it takes a lot of time and effort to become familiar with it. There is a significant learning curve. The best part of Qualtrics is the number of different ways surveys can be configured. There are many different types of questions, multiple ways to create survey logic, and a really robust external REST API for building applications on top of Qualtrics, as well as an internal Javascript API to add functionality to the platform.

Some very basic processes seem to be missing. For example, there does not seem to be a way to include choice text and description separately for dropboxes. This is supported by base HTML so I do not know why this is not allowed. For example, <option name="abcd">ABCD description</option> has been standard in HTML since the beginning yet in Qualtrics I cannot set a value to a dropdown option and an expanded description. I love using qualtrics as a researcher and as a teacher. Qualtrics makes it easy to gather feedback and collect data from participants. In particular, I can easily import a list of people and then send them personalized invitations and reminders. It's straightfoward to control the flow of a survey, and to get the data out later. In my experience, the interface changes with some frequently, making it a challenge to work with existing surveys - such as figuring out where to go to upload the list of users. It is also frustrating that the coding of responses is incremented as they are deleted and added, and therefore you need to watch out for the need to recode your variables.
