Before using Quallie, I had to rely on multiple disconnected tools that created messy, scattered data and wasted hours of valuable research time. Quallie supports live focus group chats, asynchronous discussion boards, participant diaries, and built-in polls within a single project, eliminating that fragmentation. I also really appreciate the flexibility of the asynchronous functionality, as many of my participants are busy professionals who cannot commit to fixed times. This flexibility boosts participation and yields more genuine responses. Another key advantage is the approachable learning curve; as a PhD researcher, I don’t have the bandwidth to master complex software, and Quallie’s intuitive interface allows me to set up and moderate conversations without extensive training. All qualitative outputs stay neatly grouped, making it easy to export transcripts for analysis. Ultimately, Quallie makes rigorous, multi-format qualitative work feasible on a limited budget, helping me gather layered, conversational insights that complement the quantitative survey data I collect through SurveyMonkey. **What do you dislike about Quallie?** First and foremost, Quallie lacks native German language localization, which is my biggest day-to-day limitation for my sustainable fashion research at Universität zu Köln. All of my study participants are German consumers across Cologne and wider Bavaria, and all my research prompts, diary tasks and discussion guides are written in German. While I can manually translate all participant-facing content, the platform’s system interface, automated reminder emails, in-platform alerts and navigation menus stay fixed in English. Several participants I’ve recruited have limited English proficiency, and the constant English text creates confusion, discouraging open feedback and sometimes leading to rushed, incomplete diary submissions or low engagement. Secondly, the platform has very limited academic-focused customization and qualitative coding features. Quallie simply archives raw discussion threads and participant entries, with no built-in highlighting, tagging tools or custom thematic code categories. As a PhD researcher, I need to identify recurring themes such as greenwashing concerns or price barriers for sustainable fashion. Without these functions inside Quallie, I must copy every participant response into separate documents for manual thematic sorting. This repetitive administrative work takes up valuable time that I could spend on data interpretation and writing chapters for my dissertation. **What problems is Quallie solving and how is that benefiting you?** Quallie effectively fills a critical gap in my mixed-methods doctoral research that standard quantitative survey tools like SurveyMonkey cannot cover. Surveys deliver large-scale numerical data showing consumer trends, yet they cannot uncover the underlying reasoning, personal doubts and nuanced perspectives behind shopping decisions for sustainable apparel. Before using Quallie, I relied on a disjointed mix of video calls and separate text documents to gather qualitative feedback, which was disorganized and heavily dependent on rigid synchronous meeting times.
