Future-dated mandatory checks show as "outstanding" **Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2023 **What do you like best about Sonia?** It's a serviceable way to gather information in a central location. **What do you dislike about Sonia?** The inflexibility of the design which means that a university cannot tailor the information given to students: this provides stress for students who see future-dated mandatory checks as "outstanding". **What problems is Sonia solving and how is that benefiting you?** I assume that the university has chosen Sonia because its competitors are worse. It does not benefit me, a user, at all. ### 2. However if you do not know what to look for, then it can be much more challenging and cause more harm than good at times. While it is not aesthetically pleasing, it does provide a coherent tab stucture, which can help a user navigate somewhat efficiently between different pages. The forms tab is the most effective tab as it it is able to congregate different tasks through an extended period of time. **What do you dislike about Sonia?** Its UI is pretty archaic. You also have to save your search if you have agencies selected, or else it will wipe the data every time you refresh the page. It is only effective in its search if you know the precise topic or category. We currently use the platform as a way to organize internship options within our graduate program. If I did not know which sector I wanted to work in and particular clinics to look for, I am not sure I would have found something viable for both my interests and time. **Recommendations to others considering Sonia:** If your organization already uses Sonia, it is a decent tool for assembling large amounts of data. However, it does not integrate, and often the data is out of date. The user interface is not very easy to understand, nor is it aesthetically pleasing. It gets the job done without any bells, whistles, or fun. If you are considering using this platfor, pratice patience and priortize utilization over user experience. **What problems is Sonia solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am using Sonia to search for internship positions within my graduate program. We have hundreds of agencies available, ranging into many different sectors of the field and Sonina agregates this information from the agencies for students to view and then select the agencies they are interested in. ### 3. The platform is very customizable which has allowed us to meet our needs and often enhance how we support our 470+ students in field placements any given year. The Sonia team is exceptionally knowledgeable and responsive. Beyond just answering questions, they collaborate with our team to think through processes and designs systems that allow for ease of use. **What do you dislike about Sonia?** The complexity of some processes can take some time and effort to design and implement. However the Sonia team is there to help guide and support along the way making it a bit easier and the end result worth it. **What problems is Sonia solving and how is that benefiting you?** Sonia has allowed us to streamline communications and gather information from thousands of stakeholders. It has allowed us to connect students with placement opportunities across our state and beyond. ### 4. I enjoy the ease of use for data entry and exporting of required data for reports and projections, specifically as it relates to CSWE competencies. The available support and resources are also a huge help when needing to resolve an issue or concern. The ability to "copy" forms and share them, both internally and externally, is an excellent means of working 'smarter, not harder' and is ideal in an everchanging and evolving atmosphere. **What do you dislike about Sonia?** Some steps are tedious, such as creating Forms and all of the minute details that one must follow. But with continuous use, they feel much less foreign. However, support is present should such issues arise. **Recommendations to others considering Sonia:** n/a **What problems is Sonia solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are streamlining and efficiently tracking students in their field placements from beginning to end. This includes the pre-referral process and collection of needed data, as well as the end results of required reporting for accrediting bodies. ### 5. Its range of function, power, and flexibilty are outstanding. Sonia allows users to tailor specific administration to the nuanced needs of their stakeholders, while supporting communication, curriculum, and reporting. It is easy to use while providing a unique range of tailored tools and user experiences. QSR are responsive and open to innovation, providing quarterly updates to the system, ensuring that Sonia remains aligned to the needs of their stakeholders. **What do you dislike about Sonia?** Placement is complex, and therefore Sonia has to be equally complex to meet administration requirements. If placements were always simple, life would be easier. **Recommendations to others considering Sonia:** I would recommend institutes consider having a Sonia Super User to support innovative engagement and to ensure all users are using the system effectively and with whole-of-institute goals in mind. While the system itself is easy to administer, the complexities of individual professions and their placement requirements often require nuanced variation across an institute's Sonia Schools (instances); having a Sonia Super User helps support this sort of specialization. **What problems is Sonia solving and how is that benefiting you?** Without Sonia, millions of placement hours a year would be managed on local computers exposing institutes to data loss and mismanagement. Sonia supports standardized institution-wide data management, reducing institutional dependence on key staff, and facilitating consistent global reporting.
