Qgis is the most powerful gis software ever I know, and it is absolutely free and fast developing with many help cetets and many training data. specially it is comfortable to work on remote sensing and spaial analysis.

Qgis was for me a very powerful too to visualize and manipulate data without having the necessity to use an expensive GIS software under a commercial license The early version I used was already very good in terms of user interface, with a deign of icons and menu very close to the familiar windows environment. Qgis was for little developed in the printing settings. To print a meaningful map, adding a legend, labels and titles was vary difficult, close to impossible. In this sense it was not possible to substitute the use of commercial software. The best thing about Qgis is how powerful it is - I use paid gis software in my professional occupation and have to say that QGIS is by far the best program out there that provides so much for free. It is reliable - unlike the paid software that I use QGIS never crashes. It is functional and fast to load - I can do almost everything on it and it is for free. I use QGIS version 3.18.0 and I love the fact that it is free and available for both 32 bit and 64 bit, unlike its main competitor that has only 32 bit. I am still learning and to be fair the only thing I don't like is that I don't know enough about the program. It is not as good with displaying datasets from different coordinate systems. ArcMap does a much better job. Additionally, regarding large vector files, it is more temperamental than ArcMap and certain features, that I take for granted in ArcMap are not as readily available in QGIS (ie: clip raster (Arcmap) - Clipper (QGIS plugin)). You must understand how the software works to get especific outputs, for example the image export section is quite unhandy given that all the layer get exported as one file for graphic tasks. Thus is needed to export manually every layer and then re-format on a design software.

Being an open source software theres constantly add ons or extra features that can be downloaded to add to your workplace, but they dont get seamlesly added to your workplace, making your (QGIS) desktop crowded and hard to read.
