Qgis is the most powerful gis software ever I know, and it is absolutely free and fast developing with many help cetets and many training data. specially it is comfortable to work on remote sensing and spaial analysis. I would like to qgis to dedicate more in marine data analysis. Qgis was for me a very powerful too to visualize and manipulate data without having the necessity to use an expensive GIS software under a commercial license The early version I used was already very good in terms of user interface, with a deign of icons and menu very close to the familiar windows environment. The QGIS was perfect for data analysis and printing screenshots of the map on the monitor, as well as calculating buffer zones or editing tables. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about QGIS? Qgis was for little developed in the printing settings. To print a meaningful map, adding a legend, labels and titles was vary difficult, close to impossible. In this sense it was not possible to substitute the use of commercial software. Recommendations to others considering QGIS: Feel free to test and experiment, it is a quite easy to use software, it is a good starting point to entre into the GIS universe and compose your own maps and analysis. frequent updates have improved a lot the QGIS software during time, making it a real alternative to commercial software for many users. The best thing about Qgis is how powerful it is - I use paid gis software in my professional occupation and have to say that QGIS is by far the best program out there that provides so much for free. It is reliable - unlike the paid software that I use QGIS never crashes. It is functional and fast to load - I can do almost everything on it and it is for free. This is not a sponsored review, yet it would feel like one because I am grateful and happy that I learned about this program. I use QGIS version 3.18.0 and I love the fact that it is free and available for both 32 bit and 64 bit, unlike its main competitor that has only 32 bit. QGIS is also available for all operating systems that I use i.e. Linux, Windows, and Mac which is great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about QGIS? I am still learning and to be fair the only thing I don't like is that I don't know enough about the program. Some of the tasks that I execute are slightly more time-consuming in QGiS in comparison to other programs out there. What problems is QGIS solving and how is that benefiting you? I am creating web maps, spatial analysis, and visualization of data. I use QGIS to alter and present to the public maps where one can see snow cleaning routes during the winter and maintenance services during the summer. The maps are presented on a municipal website. It is extremely easy to alter and modify the maps in real-time, and it takes one click on the refresh button in order to update a snow root for example, and make it visible to the citizens of the municipality that I work for. "Great for spatial analysis" 4.5/5 What do you like best about QGIS? QGIS is a free software that enables data amateurs to discover trends within spatial datasets easily. It's use of plugins and accompanying tutorials make it a great piece of kit and invaluable for any aspiring GIS techies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about QGIS? It is not as good with displaying datasets from different coordinate systems. ArcMap does a much better job. Additionally, regarding large vector files, it is more temperamental than ArcMap and certain features, that I take for granted in ArcMap are not as readily available in QGIS (ie: clip raster (Arcmap) - Clipper (QGIS plugin)). Recommendations to others considering QGIS: It is harder to get familiar with than other spatial software, but that is what makes it better as there is so much to learn and you can push the frontiers alot more. As QGIS uses python, it is actually easier managing spatial attributes and adding data to columns. I needed to calculate the bounding box area of features (polygon dataset), which is easier in QGIS using python than with ArcMap. I specially regard this is an open source software, where there's always the possibility to improve by accessing user-base websites or just fast improvement of possible software issues that may appear on the go. It is easily accesible and usable for everyone who wants to start getting into the mindset of georeferenced data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about QGIS? You must understand how the software works to get especific outputs, for example the image export section is quite unhandy given that all the layer get exported as one file for graphic tasks. Thus is needed to export manually every layer and then re-format on a design software. Being an open source software theres constantly add ons or extra features that can be downloaded to add to your workplace, but they dont get seamlesly added to your workplace, making your (QGIS) desktop crowded and hard to read. Basemaps can not be added directly, you must search the dataset or online server that provides the needed information.
