"Perfect Solution for simple OCR tasks!"

What do you like best?

Python OCR or Tesseract helps us in accomplishing simple OCR tasks with a significant success rate, and is completely open-source. Thus it is backed up by a huge community and even you can contribute to it. It supports many image formats and has gradually added a large number of scripts. In addition to this, Tesseract has implemented a Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) based recognition engine . It also enables us to integrate Tesseract in our C++ or Python code, using Tesseract’s API. It is easy to set up and provides reliable results.

What do you dislike?

Tesseract might disappoint you when it comes to image pre-processing or custom font training. It works best on clean black text on solid white background in a common font and might not be accurate when you are working with complex backgrounds.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have used python ocr for extracting information from screenshots without the need to retype them. I can quote customer reviews from their screenshots. I have also used it to analyse bills, quotations and charts for data visualisation. Our team has also combined python ocr with OpenCV and used it on facial image extraction.

"Tesseract + Python = Fun"

What do you like best?

python ocr or say tesserocr is a python wrapper for Tessearct OCR Engine. Tesseract is one of the best state-of-the-art OCR Engine which has evolved the years and now even uses deep learning for text extraction from images.

Using it with python along side other computer vision libraries like OpenCV takes it to another level now one can deal with the images as well as the text within it. It opens doors for many other applications.

tesserocr is the best tool present around that helps to use tesseract from python. Also it provides easy API through which one can choose various options that tesseract engine provides like - opting for a language, using particular page segmentation mode, e.t.c.

What do you dislike?

It has proved itself better over the other implementations present like - pytesseract, pyocr, e.t.c. So I would not like to present any negative points to it but instead say - "it is the best".

Recommendations to others considering the product

tesserocr is the best python wrapper implementation for tesseract ocr engine around and I would surely suggest to use this open-source tool and increase intelligence of your products using OCR.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

There are many business use cases that involves OCR. From obtaining details from reports and bills to get information from KYC documents. We have been using tesserocr for all such projects and it has provided great results with over 85% accuracy. It being an open-source tool and providing such success is great.

We have also built a OCR + NLP engine where in the OCR part we have user tesserocr and for NLP other libraries like NLTK, spacy, e.t.c. ate used.
