It makes life easier for you to connect to your remote servers in order to admin then. It's highly configurable and you can save all your sessions to use next time you need. A great feature I like it's the way to configure tunnelings with the remote server in order to use in your own computer.

The interface is a bit advanced for the begginer users and sometimes it takes a time to find something. Also, there is no way to share or make a backup of saved sessions, you have to go to the Windows registry and get it from there. **Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jordi S. | Developer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2018

**What do you like best about PuTTY?**

The software is quite simple and does not require much additional configuration after installing and running it. Putty is excellent for connecting to a network system and also to FTP sites. It is a lightweight open-source software. It's fine. What I really like about it is that I can easily connect to another server like Linux, for example, when I'm operating and need to make a commitment there. The setup became quite simple and the software was very easy to use.

**What do you dislike about PuTTY?**

You cannot simply right-click on the PuTTY icon and close all open sessions. While it may be easy to use and understand, there are certain factors that can become complicated. The user interface is asking for a date snippet, but it is clear and functional, so this is just an aesthetic issue. It seems that utility instances are a form of disruption.

**Recommendations to others considering PuTTY:**

Creation of the SSH tunnel when I need to perform tests with other origins or avoid restrictions. I defend it one hundred percent because it is a very beneficial tool within a commercial company and it is really easy to set up. But if you choose a lightweight and fast connectivity tool, PuTTY is the way to go. Try it, in case you do a lot of work in the terminal, you might not seem lower.

**What problems is PuTTY solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simple and possible interface My team has observed recently that we will allow the SSH shell within the configuration of a VMware host and issue commands and replace them that way. While they support me, keep track of all the connections I make. Connections with external hosts. It is a safe and fast alternative, without wasting time or money on applications that do not fulfill the function. My group recently determined that we can allow SSH shell within the configuration for a VMware host and issue commands and update it that way. I have no idea how I would carry out these responsibilities without the use of such an effective and hassle-free tool.

It is a very convenient tool to use, since it requires few steps to connect to a remote server and to be able to manage the files you need at the moment you need it, it is a CLI command line interface very used for its simplicity and security since connecting to a router to configure it or to another system to execute commands that allow to install or configure third programs, I like it because I can use it in both windows and in Linux apart from being software is in constant development simply a great tool

  ### 40. Simple and effective tool to connect via SSH to other servers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about PuTTY?**

Putty is a simple tool for connecting via SSH, Telnet, among others. Putty does not have the option to remember the password, which makes it somewhat more secure, so that other people who connect on the same computer are not able to connect to the server. It is free and open-source, very lightweight as well as fast, in addition to doing its job well.

**What do you dislike about PuTTY?**

The poor quality and old-school user interface is off-putting because it is free, and the capability it provides outweighs the deficiencies of the interface.

**Recommendations to others considering PuTTY:**

Just keep in mind selecting to copy and logging out. Also, an advantage to consider is that the application is completely portable and, therefore, does not need to be installed.

**What problems is PuTTY solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use it to connect our window machines to various Unix servers and transfer/move files from one location to another.

  ### 41. Simple and Effective Putty is your best Ally to connect to remote unix machines

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about PuTTY?**

I love that PuTTY allows me to connect easily to my Unix servers in a clean and efficient way. I have been using PuTTY for years and have never had any problems, and I am very happy to be able to say this about free software. The software is quite straightforward and does not require much additional configuration after installing and running it.

**What do you dislike about PuTTY?**

My biggest complaint with PuTTY is that you can't have multiple sessions open in the same software with tabs (like a browser). Instead, PuTTY opens separate windows for each session, and when you work with more than 3 sessions, it's a bit crazy and it's much more convenient to have them open in the same application with tabs instead of individual windows that PuTTY itself provides. I hope that one day, they consider adding that option.

**Recommendations to others considering PuTTY:**

Very valuable tool to use, a good and free choice, try it and you will be surprised.

**What problems is PuTTY solving and how is that benefiting you?**

PuTTY is my main tool for connecting to network devices remotely. Quick and easy access to the operating system via SSH. I have no idea how I would perform these tasks without using such an easy and yet effective tool.

  ### 42. Incredible device to execute Unix commands.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Antonio G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 20, 2018

**What do you like best about PuTTY?**

The utility is very basic in terms of capacity; however, it performs the activity, that is the maximum critical function for me. I use putty considerably. I simply like the ability to add password fields to facilitate insecure registration for most and the flexibility in consumer configuration. It can be a very smooth and portable software used to execute Unix commands. 2 Available on all platforms: Windows Home, Mac, and Linux. 3 It allows me to buy periods to be able to log in faster next time. What I like the most is "automated playback on selection" which allows me to duplicate the textual content messages I have highlighted, making me more efficient.

**What do you dislike about PuTTY?**

Authorization: the tunnel submenu requires a small configuration attempt. Nothing, I literally save a duplicate of this on my USB. There is no option to save passwords and it is complicated when you have more than one class, as it will create more than one. Windows startup has some shortcomings like the Personalization PC in its visual aspect, something I have not yet improved in the latest versions Bare minimum UI.

**Recommendations to others considering PuTTY:**

There are no prices, no technical problems. Try it, in case you perform numerous tasks in the terminal, you won't look back. There are different flavors of putty that have additional features. No installation is required and it is quite easy to apply. Connection to Servers, Multiple connections at the same time.

**What problems is PuTTY solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Simple and viable interface My team has observed these days that we can enable the SSH shell in the configuration of a VMware host and troubleshoot commands and replace it that way. The ability to store credentials and log in routinely is considered one of the most important advantages. It is quick to apply and easy to use. It is easy to apply, more than one machine can use it, and it is very reliable.

**What do you like best about PuTTY?**

Its so easy to SSH into a virtual machine with PuTTy,
You can telnet into your machines too, so that makes life easier as a QA Engineer.

**What do you dislike about PuTTY?**

The lack of a good help desk on the PuTTy shell.
There is a lot of information available on the internet though so it ends up being a small issue

**Recommendations to others considering PuTTY:**

Its very easy to use. There is a lot of information out there to use putty. I highly recommend it!

**What problems is PuTTY solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Logging in to virtual machines and debugging them getting logs. Benefits realized are related to solving a lot of bugs for my company's solution platform

  ### 45. Best SSH Client for all Linux Platforms

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gulshandeep S. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 11, 2018

**What do you like best about PuTTY?**

Putty is the most used ssh client by windows users. Unlike linux and Mac OS, windows does not provide direct support for SSH, hence putty is required. It has got the all the tools which you may need to terminal emulation. You can connect to any type of system. It support all the authentication methods, be it password authentication or via pem file. It does not consume much memory, hence you can use multiple windows at same time.

**What do you dislike about PuTTY?**

The process which is not running in background will get automatically terminated once the Terminal connection is broken from remote system.

**What problems is PuTTY solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using it to manage our servers on Amazon AWS.

  ### 46. A simple but fast connection service

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Cristian A. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 20, 2018

**What do you like best about PuTTY?**

I love how simplistic a software can be and this one is one of them, you simply have a configurator with LOTS of parameters, and it mostly works fast, reliable and keeping it simple.

**What do you dislike about PuTTY?**

It could have more features regarding bugs, tunneling... but mostly bug control, sometimes you have the perception it is failing on some other things due to some vague descriptions.

**Recommendations to others considering PuTTY:**

If you need some connection parameters to access or to have a configuration extended to a set of computers it is your software, in terms of reliability is flawless and when your focus is something that does the job without adding an extra layer of complexity you thank god for programs like this.

**What problems is PuTTY solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are solving connections to external IPs, access to some database that rely con controlled tunneling and sometimes to work at home and access to all the ip restricted office services.

sometimes has increased complexity while working as requires a lot of Linux knowledge.

**Recommendations to others considering PuTTY:**

use this for Linux os or Unix environement. Easy and simple. Good working experience.

**What problems is PuTTY solving and how is that benefiting you?**

requires a lot of knowledge on commands. Once learnt the commands very easy to work on.

  ### 48. Simple yet effective terminal client

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dave H. | IT Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2018

**What do you like best about PuTTY?**

That it's light weight Opensource software at it's best! A very clean, simple to use interface with a multitude of features....all for nothing!

The documentation on their website is very concise and covers every aspect of using the software. Another good point is how frequently they update the software, it's not enough to become annoying but they are regularly implementing new features, bug fixes and security improvements. Their change-log which is published on their site is testament to this. Often Opensource software is created for a specific reason, which is achieved and never improved or maintained. Keep up the good work Putty!

The other great feature is the ability to multiple, yet individual instances of the application (I forget what they call this, something like polygamy). Which allows you to connect to different servers through different protocols concurrently.

**What do you dislike about PuTTY?**

It's hard to pick a dislike with this little bit of software. I suppose the only thing that can be a little clunky is saving your connections. I also don't know where the credentials are stored and how secure they are.

**Recommendations to others considering PuTTY:**

Give it a try, if you do a lot of terminal work you won't look back.

**What problems is PuTTY solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use PuTTY on a daily basis for a number of different tasks. Whether it be administrating our servers through their SSH terminal or using TELNET to talk to mail servers for debugging. It's xterm terminal emulator is very stable. You can even talk to older devices through serial connections!

  ### 49. Strong enough to meet the needs of most IT professionals.

  ### 50. Simple but useful SSH client

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fernando Q. | Programador, Internet, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 30, 2018

**What do you like best about PuTTY?**

What I like the best of PuTTy is to being able to set a SSH client very easily and quickly, and the most important thing without installing anything, if I'm out of my office I just have to download it and get quickly into my servers

**What do you dislike about PuTTY?**

What I dislike about PuTTy is not being able to open many consoles in the same application instance, I have to launch another instance of PuTTy if I have to access two servers at the same time.

**Recommendations to others considering PuTTY:**

If you have to access a server CLI from outside the office this may be the best option for being so quickly and easy to set up in any pc

**What problems is PuTTY solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accessing my servers so quickly without configuring anything and just typing the ip or domain of the server and the port to be easily promted into the console
