Pulley makes it super simple and easy to find what I need, and get my team answers when they need it. It's also surprisingly powerful, and isn't as "lightweight" as I thought when first signing up. The best part of my experience with Pulley has been with their support team, who is responsive, helpful, and willing to jump in to solve specific hardstops I encounter. They work with their own engineering team to resolve issues for me on the backend within hours. It's really been a great experience. **What do you dislike about Pulley?** Pulley probably maxes out if you have a highly complex equity plan that requires a lot of edge-case handling. Fortunately, that's not us, but I would imagine you may need a more robust solution at 500+ employees. **What problems is Pulley solving and how is that benefiting you?** Pulley helps us effectively manage our equity, allows employees to self-serve questions about their equity, and get fast and easy board approvals. ### 2. It tells me what I need, when I need it. A lot of other providers terrify me, there's a lot of functionality I don't necessarily need (or know I need) and I don't want to pay for it until I do. Pricing reflects, was free for me to do modeling, get notifications for 83b and other tax things. They'd only charge me when my startup matured to the stage where I needed a paid service (like a 409A). Customer onboarding was super easy, functionality is there. Support is lightning fast if you need it. I was an early user, gave feedback and had an almost immediate response. Was apparent when I started and even now that their feature development is through the roof -- they're constantly adding new features :) **What do you dislike about Pulley?** None so far. I've had a great experience as an early user -- they've grown as my needs have. Looking forward to seeing the product continue to evolve :) **What problems is Pulley solving and how is that benefiting you?** Tooling is built for founders. So for me, it solved modeling before my round (have a tool for that), recording equity and telling me about my vesting schedule (after we incorporated), and telling me what tax things I needed to file (83b). Also the education was great -- they told me what tools I'd need in the future (409A for hiring our first employee). ### 4. Their note-issuing sequence is painless and has saved me countless hours. Additionally, the inclusion of calculators in-app that pull in my existing cap table just lets me get all of my work done in-app, instead of hopping from spreadsheet to spreadsheet. On the customer service side, the two I have interacted with so far are Lam and Jordan. They are both stellar, respond quickly, are knowledgeable about the platform and fundraising in general. Their service alone would make this review a 10/10, even if the platform was crap (which it isn't). **What do you dislike about Pulley?** Not much. The only negative is the somewhat unclear onboarding process, but I believe that should be chalked up more to my ignorance than anything else. **What problems is Pulley solving and how is that benefiting you?** 1. The Data Room helps store and organize all the key legal documents related to share issuance, conversion and option grants, etc. The onboarding team is truly awesome, very knowledgable, thorough, responsive and patient. For one, they are quick to respond with helpful tips, suggestions, and onboarding. Also, their financial modeling tool is versatile, robust, and easily understandable -- just what we needed. Finally, Pulley is the ONLY service we can find that doesn't balk at the complexity of our current round raise. (Especially with all of the different types of notes.) **What do you dislike about Pulley?** As with most providers we've found, it's a bit difficult to import/onboard Reg CF rounds. We've made it work with a few quick fixes, but I look forward to it being a full feature. **What problems is Pulley solving and how is that benefiting you?** Previously, we were using an in-house, home-brew spreadsheet to manage our cap table and financial modeling. We've found Pulley to be very helpful in bringing that out of the Dark Ages. We feel much more in control of the situation with certified geniuses building the backbone of the table. We are an early-stage startup, so the features that we have used thus far been simple and easy. **What do you dislike about Pulley?** I have a limited perspective on this as we haven't used many of the advanced features yet, but the one bummer is not being able to issue simple stock purchase agreements through the platform without bumping our payment tier from "startup" to the more expensive option. Pulley modeling allows a founder to actually see the dilutive impact of each SAFE or Convertible Note she or he enters into prior to doing the deal. It is flexible and able to correctly model pre or post-money SAFEs as well as option pools in a matter of seconds. An incredible time and money saver. Which means I cannot use Pulley to execute them because they cannot represent "Stakeholder title" field in their template generators. The interface for this mocking has changed, but the previous interface was better suited for the mocking behavior I desired. The specific struggle I have with this feature is the odd calculations it does as it "adds" shares to the outstanding share pool. Upon exporting, it makes for weird questions with accountants and investors when they see shares adding to our outstanding share pool even though no new shares exist as a result of the nature of a SAFE note. **What problems is Pulley solving and how is that benefiting you?** The ability to track my own cap table and mock future scenarios of such seamlessly. The Pulley Application is devastatingly effective and covers an expanse of functionality that is impressive beyond words. There is no question that Pulley is THE leader in their category and their growth will be meteoric. **What do you dislike about Pulley?** NO downside - as in absolutely NONE! The Pulley Team and App are a comet shooting due north in terms of value! I did not find any issues; in fact, seemingly every DAY new features and functions were being added. It is the equivalent of "receiving a bonus" every time you log in. Clearly Pulley's engineers are working VERY hard to not only create a bulletproof system but also are "listening to input" from customers. Truly admirable - using Amazon like parlance, it is 'Day One' EVERY day at Pulley. **What problems is Pulley solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our corporate governance was an EXTREME scenario - nearly a dozen friends and family agreements and four levels of SAFE Agreements. Pulley barely had exert itself to convert the "extreme" into an ideal, best-in-class cap table! This truly was epic and, candidly stated, I did have my doubts prior to using Pulley that ANY system in the world could handle the sophistication required by our situation. ### 35. My lawyers have signed off on the cap table Employee experience - Employees have found the experience of exercising options on Pulley straightforward. If they have any questions, I also know they will be taken care of through support. Pricing is clear - I never knew what I was paying for with Carta. Their growth plan especially is all encompassing - includes board approvals, exercising options, 409A valuations. **What do you dislike about Pulley?** A few questions popped up during onboarding. A signed copy makes it easier for my accountants and lawyers during diligence. Having certainty in what our equity positions are currently also after any fundraise—no matter the terms—is a major value add. **What do you dislike about Pulley?** I don't like the pricing model. It needs to be framed better for smaller companies who raised capital from angels (i.e. lots of small checks) and paying ~$5 PER INVESTOR(/stakeholder) PER MONTH is honestly a lot for the service that is offered. I don't a fair amount of the functionality has been helpful or useful for a smaller startup, and it seems like they are basically able to soak up a lot of VC dollars by getting "50% of YC batches" to use their product, vs building and targeting smaller startups. **Recommendations to others considering Pulley:** I would suggest Pulley if you have between 1-20 stakeholders, keeping in mind that ANYONE with equity or access to options is a stakeholder—not just investors. **What problems is Pulley solving and how is that benefiting you?** Mostly cap table management. Calculating ESOP amounts and requirements for our board is usually fairly difficult and Pulley definitely makes this easy.
