It is used by independent professional trustees, trust companies, and law firms, registered investment advisors, and family offices that serve as trustee. The platform combines fiduciary accounting, compliance monitoring, document management, workflow automation, and contact management in one system, replacing the mix of spreadsheets, general-purpose accounting tools, and email that many smaller fiduciary practices rely on. The accounting module is a double-entry general ledger built around principal and income classification, so every transaction is recorded as principal or income from the start. Posting templates classify transactions under Uniform Principal and Income Act rules, and firms can customize those rules. The ledger supports fee schedules and fee management, omnibus cash accounts, and client statements. Account data can be fed from more than 1,600 custodians and financial institutions. The compliance module runs automated checks across each trust or entity a firm manages, with configurable rules and a full audit trail of user activity. Workflow tools cover recurring tasks, ticklers, and rule-based automations, with starter templates available at setup. The documents module stores trust instruments and official records and links each file to the related account or task. The contacts module tracks beneficiaries, advisors, households, and custodians associated with each trust. ProTrustee also includes artificial intelligence features that operate on a firm’s own data. Uploaded documents are analyzed and indexed, the system can generate a summary page of a trust’s key provisions and administrative requirements, and users can ask plain-language questions about their accounts, documents, and workflows. Platform-wide features include role-based permission profiles for separation of duties, configurable dashboards, custom data fields, and multi-factor authentication. ProTrustee was founded by Brandon Whittington, a former trust officer at U.S. Trust and Truist Wealth, and Will Deupree, former founder and chief executive officer of Preclose. The company is based in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and is backed by Meeting Street Capital.
