## Proto.io Reviews
  ### 1. First time with Proto

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Program Development | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2016

**What do you like best about Proto.io?**

The platform offers many different options that others don't offer when creating prototypes. This includes fixing and editing screens within the platform, and making static/dynamic parts of a screen, all within one screen.

**What do you dislike about Proto.io?**

I had a ton of difficulty as to how to make my very long screen scrollable in the prototype. After resulting to many, many forums, I found that my answer wasn't even easy. I had to create a "container" for all screens that exceeded the height of the screen resolution. This will take me forever.

**What problems is Proto.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was trying to deliver a clickable prototype to a client fast, and efficiently. Although I did discover many capabilities of the platform, it takes a really long time to build.

  ### 2. Excellent and thorough advanced prototyping tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sean P. | UX/UI Designer - Consultant, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Proto.io?**

Proto.io can create cyclical and fully functioning prototypes that very closely mimic the real thing. If done well enough it can trick many people into believing it's a legitimate app and not just a web app. It uses Groups and Containers to create functioning animations/interactions within views and you can easily and quickly animate between states creating very nice animations. There are variables and functions that allow the creator to save data such as names and addresses as well as create intricate and interesting interactions. However my favorite feature is animating between states, you create one state, place an object, create another state and then move the object and it will animate between those states - simple.

**What do you dislike about Proto.io?**

Variables were created about 2 years ago and not improved upon since then. The interface is fairly difficult to use but can be powerful when understood. Heavy prototypes can mess up just because they are complicated and not for any reason such as poor implementation. They can also be slow to update the web app. There isn't too much to dislike about Proto.io, there is a slight learning curve but once you begin to get it you start wanting to play with it and explore more of what it can do.

**Recommendations to others considering Proto.io:**

If anything, give it a try. It's an excellent tool. It depends on what type of problem you are solving, it can do low fidelity and high fidelity, though with the pre-made items they give you like switches and pagination it can look more high fidelity than you want for your low-fi prototypes.

**What problems is Proto.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it to create animated prototypes that have complicated interactions. Though it is great for wireframe prototypes as well. It is really good at expressing animation and interaction choices that cannot be explained. Developers are very appreciative of being shown how something should be done instead of told.

  ### 3. A touch of madness

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dario Mario B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Proto.io?**

I think this really interesting and fascinating idea. The screens allow you to change to frequently used applications at will allows more creative and interested in this sort of thing to have fun and create their layout to your liking.
Starter projects for common interface models like sliding menus and tabbed apps. This can be a real time-saver if you know you’ll use these in your prototype.

**What do you dislike about Proto.io?**

At first glance, for novice users may not be very intuitive. I believe in my humble opinion that the initial instructions are not intuitive and too wasteful.
Proto.io does back up each saved version of the entire project, but not at a page or screen level like the Team Projects feature in Axure. The lack of page-level versioning can be a serious problem in settings where several designers are working on large prototypes with lots of pages.

**What problems is Proto.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used Proto.io not for business use, but only staff because I had heard and I was curious. What they are able to develop was a prototype email using the iOS7 and iOS8 libraries.

  ### 4. Powerful tool that's easy to use

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chris B. | Co-Founder, Leisure, Travel & Tourism, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 02, 2016

**What do you like best about Proto.io?**

Proto.io makes it possible for non technical cofounders to build a working prototype for their app. No coding required. Photoshop integration. Amazing support.

**What do you dislike about Proto.io?**

There are a few nitpicky things with the UI that I don't like but honestly there's not much to complain about.

**Recommendations to others considering Proto.io:**

Proto.io is the perfect way to build a prototype. It's a great starting point for building that app idea without hiring a developer immediately. Prototypes make the eventual development easier, faster, and smarter.

**What problems is Proto.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Building a prototype with minimal coding experience.

  ### 5. Fantastic prototype building software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amber E. | Yoga Instructor, Leisure, Travel & Tourism, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2016

**What do you like best about Proto.io?**

Simple interface, low cost, powerful prototype builder, minimal coding knowledge required

**What do you dislike about Proto.io?**

There are really no negatives. They offer a free plan for bootstrapping entrepreneurs and are really amazing at working with you to fit your budget

**Recommendations to others considering Proto.io:**

Test it out with the free trial and see how it works for your needs. I think you'll be happy with the outcome.

**What problems is Proto.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Prototype design and build

  ### 6. I've used it on one or two projects very recently.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aimee K. | User experience designer - new devices group, Semiconductors, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2016

**What do you like best about Proto.io?**

It's pretty foolproof for clients that are not only 'dumb' when it comes to web design, but they also struggle with understanding prototypes. Putting it in an environment they understand helps them get comfortable with the wireframes & design and start to play with it.

**What do you dislike about Proto.io?**

It's a bit clunky to ramp up on. There are so many interactive prototype platforms out there I get annoyed needing to learn yet another one.

**What problems is Proto.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Clients need to understand the project that we are creating together. They don't want to admit they don't understand paper proptptypes so they just, 'Uh, huh... looks great." through the whole phase where I require their feedback. This allows them to understand what they're looking at better.

  ### 7. Super easy to use tool to create a simple, straightforward app.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 17, 2016

**What do you like best about Proto.io?**

Login and registration is super easy.
Simple UI
Easy to use
I like that you supported keyboard buttons, so that I can move stuff in the canvas using the arrow keys.

**What do you dislike about Proto.io?**

Only supports single finger tap, No support for other gestures.
I could not find the orientation setting, don't know how to change the orientation
Also, this thing has to be smart enough to populate the UI when I change the orientation in the preview mode.
Social buttons is becoming a popular component on any app, I could not find them in the component pallette.
No centralized theme manager, so that I can change the colors and fonts. I have to do color changing and font property modification one by one everywhere.

**Recommendations to others considering Proto.io:**

Support for other gestures.
Simplify change the orientation
Make proto assume the other orientation automatically, let the user decide whether to fix it or leave it as is.
Social buttons is becoming a popular component on any app, it should be part of the component pallette.
Make a centralized theme manager, so that I can change the colors and fonts. I should not do color and font modification manually.

**What problems is Proto.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating an appealing prototype that can tell the idea and sell it

  ### 8. Decent GUI tool for prototyping moderately-complex systems

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 15, 2016

**What do you like best about Proto.io?**

I really like that Proto provides a way to make graphically- and functionally-complex prototypes that can be viewed and tested easily across a variety of devices (Android, iOS, PC browser) without any substantial coding. I also really liked how easy it was to bring in graphically-realistic UI elements for mobile (keyboards, buttons, etc.) so the prototype mockups could be tested at a conceptual level, without testers getting distracted by unrealistic UI. Finally, I really liked how Proto provided offline access to downloaded projects - this was very helpful when doing user tests "on the road".

**What do you dislike about Proto.io?**

When using Proto, I frequently wished for an easier way to make stateful conditional logic so user actions like button presses can trigger layout changes on a single screen. For mocking up single-page mobile applications, that capability is very important for getting the screens to come up properly without having to modify lots of overlaid elements' visibility.

I also disliked that there was no way to "save and download" a Proto project that could be uploaded later. This meant that, to prevent our work from being lost, we had to keep paying for a Parked account... this is great for the times when we just wanted to do user testing on our product design (when Parked, a design is still viewable) but other times meant we were paying to simply keep our design available for any future use.

**Recommendations to others considering Proto.io:**

If you are looking to quickly prototype a mobile application and don't want to commit significant developer resources to building it, Proto is a great tool to get that mockup up and running. However, if your prototype's application logic is complex and has a significant UI component, be sure to deeply review the documentation and training materials for building complex interactions.

**What problems is Proto.io solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Proto let my company quickly test out new product ideas, iterate the graphical design and basic functionality of our product concepts, and do user testing in a "realistic" environment. Since our product is meant to be used in a variety of areas that don't always have network coverage, we frequently tested designs offline so potential users could see the product in a more realistic environment. This, together with the visually-realistic UI elements and basic scripting, meant our user testing and customer discovery process went quickly and provided better data.

  ### 9. Simple and Excellent prototyping tool
