URL Rewrite and Attachment Defense work really well and can be configured to do many things. The Dashboard for TAP gives a lot of useful information but it is done from a separate interface. **What do you dislike about Proofpoint Core Email Protection?** I don't like that I have to go to another dashboard to look at the TAP information/results. There are some solutions that require constant management in order to get full value out of the solution. Proofpoint is a set it and leave it solution. You do not need to manage the product every day. Once the professional services team finishes onboarding, there isn't much else that needs to be configured other than minimal changes unique to your organization. **What do you dislike about Proofpoint Core Email Protection?** I do not like that you have to bounce between a few different dashboards to utilize all Proofpoint products. I know this is something they are working to resolve, but it makes it somewhat cumbersome to bounce between interfaces to see all tools. The dashboard looks somewhat outdated, but there is a new admin dashboard that is constantly being upgraded, but it still does not have all the features so you need so you have to bounce between old and new dashboards. **Recommendations to others considering Proofpoint Core Email Protection:** Proofpoint is amazing! The product is amazing, the ease of use is amazing, the quality of support is amazing. Proofpoint has met all the needs we have required of it and so much more. If you are in the market for moving to a new email security solution, I would highly recommend Proofpoint. **What problems is Proofpoint Core Email Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** Proofpoint Email Security and Protection completely changed our threat landscape. We were previously using an on-premise solution from a different vendor and it was struggling to keep up with today's latest threats. Upon implementing Proofpoint, I immediately saw threats that would have previously made it past our gateway, were being blocked and the machine learning aspect of Proofpoint was learning from incoming messages to harden mail flow to our end-users. Each month after implementing Proofpoint, I saw the percentage of mail being blocked rise until we hit 99% protected. I have been thoroughly impressed with how Proofpoint has improved the overall security of our mail flow and the integration with other Proofpoint products is seamless and our threat landscape is much smaller. ### 8. Use the quarantine and daily digest to help the users review and keep track of those emails that are suspect. **What do you dislike about Proofpoint Core Email Protection?** Getting initial and ongoing trainning on the system didn't seem to exist. Manual is not written for either admins or users that don't make this a full-time job - this system can easily become a full-time job for one or more people. Getting the sales rep to return calls and send us information and quotes at the renewal was like pulling teeth from a live shark in the ocean. They would send constant notices of the approaching expiration and call us about renewing, but getting information about pricing or changing the service became impossible. The sales rep was running out the clock trying to force us to renew by delaying every contact and response. Quotes to renew doubled with every new quote starting at $28K, then to $56K and finally to over $110K - all for nothing more than moving an on-premise email gateway filter system to the cloud and adding one feature that is comes with their cloud system. When we didn't renew, they threatened to sue, saying we had to give them 30 days notice of not renewing, yet all of their quotes to renew had expired or didn't arrive till after that final 30 day period started. We couldn't make a decision without valid information and pricing. All of this says to be very cautious, read everything, and look somewhere else. After the person managing the system left it got dumped on the rest of us. We tried to fix some of the failing but every time we called support it was a waste of time. After a lot of research and reading we ended up fixing the issues ourselves. Support was nearly nonexistant. **Recommendations to others considering Proofpoint Core Email Protection:** They may be considered by some to be the standard that all the rest are compared to, but I would be looking at and comparing many other company's products - especially on price and the technical management of the system. I know that PP has been bought and sold recently and that may be part of the reason we had so many issues with the renewal and the lack of support, but it is not a good excuse. Read that contract and look for strange clauses like having to inform them when ending the contract or not renewing. Cloud systems are popular but they can be overpriced and you still have to manage it. **What problems is Proofpoint Core Email Protection solving and how is that benefiting you?** Stopping spam and other malicious emails was the primary purpose. As long as the training of the system continued and users reviewed/managed their daily digest the system kept getting better about both recognizing and stopping potential threats. Remember, this system will still not prevent users from opening and clicking on things in the email. Additional training, monitoring, and notices of threats need to be sent out continually. Newer systems have enduser training and testing built-in, but our original on-premise system didn't have those features. We also wanted to start using the SPF, DKIM, and DMARC features that are now available in email, but getting help from support wasn't possible. Sales will promise everything even when they know the product can't deliver. ### 15. I see in real-world use a rate of about 99.8% block of malicious, phishing, harmful attachments, spoofing, or impersonation attempts—definitely a valuable tool to have in your bag for any size business. **What do you dislike about Proofpoint Core Email Protection?** The encryption module is difficult to use and, many times, will become extra work for our internal team. The accuracy rate of outbound auto-encrypted emails leaves much to be desired and when the receiving end can't (or won't) open an encrypted email, it takes even more time and resources from our internal team. Proofpoint gets rid of the majority of our junk email and viruses. Secondly, it has filter policies that can be configured to block or allow specific attachment file types. We also enabled the setting to turn on email tagging to mark all emails from outside our organization with an "External" tag. The ability to have users click a button and that email automatically removed from all affected inboxes (TRAP) is a really good feature. **What do you dislike about Proofpoint Core Email Protection?** Where to start... 1. The proactive protection does not reliably block spam or phishing. We'll go a week or so without any user reports, then suddenly users will receive a barrage of phishing / spam in a few days. This week alone, we had 7 phishing attacks getting into people's inboxes in < 3 days and we're only a 400 user company. 2. When explaining these issues to customer service, they promise a lot of action to investigate and resolve issues, but these are empty. We are consistently ignored despite our pleas for help and despite us having multiple P2s and P1s open. 3. On customer service, we have been promised a feature called URL isolation for Very Attacked Persons for the last two months which is included in our P0 bundle. So far we've had a demo and promise to have it setup, but no further word. I even had one of their account managers state they were offering URL isolation for VAP to us as an apology for our issues despite us already having the feature included. 4. Unless you expressly ask, every single phishing email you report goes into a black hole of automated threat intel team response. We reported a phishing attack with a malicious html attachment received to 1 user at 11am, received an automated response telling us "indicators were blocked" etc. At 2pm, that same email and html attachment was used to attack another 20+ users, bypassing Proofpoint again. 5. Their recent update to 8.17 on Proofpoint Protection Server caused all custom spam modifier rules to fail. They still haven't fixed this after two months and provide no timelines on when it will be resolved. 6. TRAP will fail for no reason and stop acting on user reports. Like literally, all indicators will show green but it will stop pulling user reports and not tell you it's fallen over. You will have to constantly monitor the assigned abuse mailbox to ensure no user reports are staying in the inbox. 7. Slightly less of a serious issue, but every single console for Proofpoint has a different login. Bottom line, I can't trust them or their product, which is shocking considering their standing in the industry and cost. I can only imagine as we're a tiny fish in a huge pond, they don't care about resolving our issues as much as the "big guys". Based on our experience, they might be OK for an enterprise who has the manpower to baby them, but SMEs should consider alternatives. **Recommendations to others considering Proofpoint Core Email Protection:** If you're a big company, they might take you seriously so it might be worth taking a chance. SMEs: Look elsewhere.
