"Prolific: A Valuable Tool for Academic Research"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

Prolific provides access to a diverse and reliable pool of participants, making it ideal for conducting a wide range of academic studies. The platform's user-friendly interface and efficient recruitment process save time and effort, allowing researchers to focus on the quality of their research. Additionally, the transparency and ethical guidelines of Prolific ensure high data integrity and participant trust, which are crucial for academic research. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

While Prolific is generally excellent, the cost of recruiting participants can be relatively high, which might be a constraint for researchers with limited budgets. Additionally, the demographic filters, while useful, can sometimes winnow down the pool of available respondents too much (as not all users on the panel have answered these questions). Customer support is also slow and there's no way to get quick time sensitive replies without paying for a consultant. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Useful recruitment platform, with room for improvement (prescreeners, general settings/options, etc)"
4/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

- Speed of recruitment / data collection

- platform now has more integrated features for, e.g., maintaining data quality (e.g., capacity to automatically redirect individuals out of your study if and when they fail 2 attention checks)

- In my experience, when I've reached out to Prolific's support team they've been pretty helpful / prompt in their responses

- Nice that Prolific can now facilitate collection of some types of represenatative samples, though haven't used this option yet myself so don't know how useful / versatile it is nor how the cost compares to other options / services out there (e.g., from Toluna) Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

GENERAL SETTINGS / OPTIONS / PLATFORM

- Still glitchy at times (e.g., get strings of error messages while trying to create a new study and as a result unable to save the study in draft form)

- Still missing some settings / options that would be incredibly useful -- for example, it would be helpful if I could: (1) invite collaborators / grant access at the individual-study level and/or at the project level (not just at the "workspace" level); (2) move funds from one workspace to another, in part to help monitor and manage allocation of specific funding amounts to specific studies/projects w. different collaborators (e.g., for situations where you're drawing from some general / flexible pot of funding you've put onto Prolific to pay for these different studies and projects with different collaborators); (3) have more flexibility in organizing different studies / projects /workspaces, including retroactively (e.g., ability to move specific [completed] studies or projects to different workspaces)

PRESCREENERS

- some of the prescreeners are still rather clunky and/or lacking -- for example, there's no prescreener that disaggregates employment sectors within STEM

- More generally it would be helpful to know if any of Prolific's prescreeners were developed using / correspond to widely used classifications (e.g., employment classifications used by the EU, ILO, or UN) -- and if not, consider doing so, potentially with an eye toward using prescreeners with response options / classifications that map onto those used in large, generally accessible datasets (e.g., European Social Survey, World Values Survey, etc), which would better enable comparisons if not integration of findings / evidence across one's own Prolific studies and these large datasets. Similarly, using response options / classifications in prescreeners that correspond to those used in datasets that are population-level and/or representative would make it easier for researchers to apply some weighting techniques to their Prolific samples.

- Other prescreeners are outdated and sometimes cringeworthy -- for example, Sexual Orientation prescreener still "others" people (consider adjusting this response option to "Not Listed" or something akin), and via the "Sex" prescreener or any other prescreener it's not possible to identify / recruit individuals who are, e.g., Intersex Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"True humans, great responses"
5/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

I like that you get access to human subjects for social research that truly care about answering your survey or study. In other services, people are just trying to rush through your study but here they take great care to answer. I also liked that subjects would rather return their submission rather than having you reject it. The number of rejections due to attention check failure or comprehension failure is fairly low Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

I have noticed that the number of rejections due to attention check failure or comprehension has been increasing over the years. I would suggest Prolific to increase their number of subjects, they might be getting burned out. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"I recommend using Prolific"
5/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

For me, the most helpful aspect of Prolific is the ease of use. As a researcher in psychology, it usually takes a few weeks to recruit participants even for a simple behavior experiment, but now Prolific allows us to do that in a few days. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

For, the least helpful aspect of Prolific is that it is not so easy to check the quality of the data. Usually we need to manually check each submission, which could take a lot of time if there are many submissions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Quick, Easy, and Quality"
5/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

Using the Prolific Academic platform for data collection in marketing area has been an outstanding experience. It is exceptionally user-friendly. Settign and implementing the studies is both quick and straightforward. The best thing is the quality of respondent pool they have. While i have not used diversed participant pool, you can get representative pool based on your requirements. It can help you screen participants on so many filters. Overall, this platform is both dependable and efficient method for gathering robust data for your studies. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

Nothing much to say except that sometimes i see participants with same IP address taking up my studies. And some information is not up-to-date like gender, age, country of residence, and other demographic information. Regular updation is required. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
