"Using Prolific for research"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

Prolific is easy to use for both me and my students, they have multiple screeners that help me reach the specific samples I need. Usually the quality of responses, and therefore the data I get, is good. I also like that Prolific makes sure that participants are fairly compensated. I usualy get quick costumer support when issues come up. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

The platform's fees have become very high. Also, I cant always use the attention checks that I prefer to screen out participants who fail those checks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The best panel service for academic researchers"
5/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

Prolific is easy to use, with a mostly well-thought-out interface and an excellent feature set. The support is helpful and responsive. Prices are fair and reasonable. There is also a powerful API which most users won't need but it does make some interesting advanced use cases possible, which we have used in our organization. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

Sometimes the interface is very slow, but this is just an inconvenience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Prolific is great for researchers"
5/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

My favorite thing about Prolific is how quick it is to get your data. My research requires me to get participants from all over the country and that could take a long time but with Prolific, I can get the data I need in no time - and it is very good quality! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

The interface of Prolific has been quite confusing in the past but it seems to have improved over time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Appreciate Prolific a lot, think there are things that would make it easier to use."
5/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

Wide distribution of types of people. Additionally, simple interface (not overly complicated). I use it frequently. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

I think that there are things that would make it a lot easier to navigate.

1) Navigation to other studies within the study draft page. Sometimes I need to go back to another study to compare the specs, but I can't do that without completely closing out of the current study I am in and awkwardly clicking through projects > specific project > draft/completed/active.

2) Sometimes the rounding for the study estimates are inconsistent between the quote displayed on the study page and the final amount that I publish.

3) I would like to say which populations I want to exclude, too, (e.g., I want to exclude police officers but exclude firefighters)

4) I would like to have easy access to my overall spending across projects - where the money comes into and out of, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Useful tool but more payment flexibility would be better for Economics experiments"
4/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

It is a pretty seamless process to integrate with my experimental software and collecting data is generally smooth. The subject pool seems to be fairly high quality (much higher than mTurk). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

They have kind of dumb rules on minimum payments. I do a lot of economics experiments where participants are paid for performance. However, Prolific seems to require a high base pay irrespective of performance. I agree that participants should get a sufficient compensation for their time, but that should encompass TOTAL payment and not just the base pay. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Marketing Prolific of Prolific

Thank you for sharing your experience with integrating Prolific with your experimental software. We understand the importance of payment flexibility, and we are working to find a balance between fair compensation and performance or progress-based payments. "Great platform for data collection"
5/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

I love its user-friendliness and interface. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

Sometimes there may be glitches that prevent the collection of completion codes, making it easier to track good and lazy respondents. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Fast data collection, relatively high quality of responses"
4/5
What do you like best about Prolific?

There are many participants from the US and the UK with many free screeining options, so it is easy to collect responses fast. The quality of the responses is better than what I have experienced with several other platforms even when paying on the same rate. The open-ended responses are thoughtful, the response time (ie. time spent on the survey or specific study tasks) is appropriate and I have few rejects due to failed attention checkers.

I also love how easy it is to integrate it with Qualtrics for seemless recruitment and compensation processes. Their tutorials are very detailed and up to date.

Despite the downsides and costs, Prolific is my preferred recruitment platform and I use it often. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Prolific?

There are several drawbacks. These are the biggest ones:

1. You cannot make any changes to the study once it has been posted, or move funds out of a study once you paid for participants for that project. It is possible to pause the study but to use funds that were already allocated to it you can only unpause the study -- you cannot edit it or use the funds for something else. My lesson is -- open the study for fewer responses and keep adding slots as needed.

2. Very rigid platform in terms of how to move studies between project folders, collaborations etc.

3. Very slow to respond. Most of the time everything is great but if you need to contact them with a question, it can take forever to get a response. I needed to reach out twice (for clarifying certain technical details required by the IRB and once for some billing information related to my university). It was a long process...

4. It is more expensive because there is a minimum pay for the participants' labor as well as a heafty overhhead fee (about 30%) to Prolific. But you are getting what you are paying for, in a good way. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
