The pricing is reasonable. The platform is relatively easy to use. The data is of a pretty good quality. I have also used the platform as a research participant, and it is very easy to use from the participant perspective. Despite its flaws, I do think it's the best option out there. **What do you dislike about Prolific?** In some of my studies, a lot of users have failed attention checks (not all studies though - longer/higher value studies and users tend to pay attention more). Although there are lots of ways to filter potential participants, still some specialist subjects are not included, and you need to do an additional study to conduct your own filtering. This often doubles the price of a study. This only lets us target basic criteria, which is hard for UX research since we need to target behavioral characteristics. Lately, there have been new features added. Since then I have noticed lagging and bugginess on the platform. [example: auto approve is delayed or doesn't occurr even though they have come back successfully with completion code] The navigation could be a bit smoother. I feel like it's a bit cumbersome to go from messages back to Active projects. I like the wide array of custom participant targeting without having to worry about additional targeting fees. I especially like that I can see how many participants are available after filtering my targets. 2. I like the ability to track in real-time how many participants have taken my survey, when they started, average time, etc. It allows me to calibrate as I go. 3. I like that the platform seems to roll out my surveys gradually, so only a few people take my survey at a time before the vast majority of people take it. This allows me to triple check that things are working and give me a chance to pause and correct issues before I waste money on more participants having issues. 4. The interface is intuitive 5. Highest quality participants I have experienced among survey platforms, and I can report or flag bad participants for removal **What do you dislike about Prolific?** 1. The interface can get buggy at times, where I click a button (i.e., "messages") and nothing happens. 2. Sometimes the average pay drops below the minimum of $8 only because a few inattentive participants spend 35 minutes on a 5 minute survey (e.g., they stopped for a break in the middle). These outliers drastically negatively affect the reported "average hourly pay" , even though it's not because the survey or pay was inappropriately designed. I believe the minimum pay cutoff should be based on median time instead, so outliers do not affect it (especially on short surveys) **What problems is Prolific solving and how is that benefiting you?** Running academic surveys is how I use Prolific. Prolific is designed for easy survey setup and administration, making my job as a researcher easy. ### 10. You are allowed to include attention checks, which increases the data quality even further. **What do you dislike about Prolific?** Custom screeners (which you might need sooner than you'd think) are only possible by running a two-wave study, in which the first survey serves as the screener and after which you send qualified participants your second survey. This not only costs more (£0.10 adds up quickly), it also takes more time as only selected participants can participate in your main study. Traditional university samples used in psychology research are heavily biased and do not generally reflect the intended statistical population. Prolific offers a much more diverse user base. ### 18. I like that I can integrate with Qualtrics surveys, and there are several in-depth articles to help with implementation. **What do you dislike about Prolific?** Like many other participants, I have also encountered the dreaded PEC-SUB-0002 Error. The customer support is only available through messaging, and thus, it is difficult to know exactly why this error occurs and how to resolve it. Time-sensitive studies are not supported. I can easily refresh the screen and the problem is resolved, but if I'm really looking for things I dislike, that's it. The rules are very clear, which makes it is easier to deal with participants, especially when their performance indicates they did not pay attention. It is very easy for a non-coder to establish an experiment, but there is also a convenient way to automate the creation of experiments into one's code. **What do you dislike about Prolific?** To be honest. For my research purposes I find it very helpful, and I have not yet found a problem with it. Even when we had unusual requests, the support team assisted in making it work. **What problems is Prolific solving and how is that benefiting you?** Prolific allows us to get large amounts of data quickly. To crowd source tasks we have no time to do or when we want human judgement on those tasks. I love the ability to carefully choose the composition of my sample/target population - you can filter by pretty much any criterion you can possibly think of! I also love how quickly you can get data in as a researcher. Within a few hours you get data that you would otherwise have to collect over the course of weeks or months! Because of this we use it quite regularly as a company. **What do you dislike about Prolific?** Nothing, it's a great platform. You get the odd user who demands a payout when they fail certain checks or haven't submitted their answers, but that's beyond Prolific's control. **What problems is Prolific solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's helping us answer research questions and understand the links between different variables that we assess as part of our surveys. ### 33. Integration with survey platforms such as Qualtrics is relatively easy. In my opinion, there is currently no better alternative. **What do you dislike about Prolific?** As with all online platforms, data quality is not ideal and there is no strong mechanism to ensure data quality.
