We just started with the SaaS model, and decided to run it along with the existing license model. Therefore we were looking for the a free tool, that we could use, at least until our SaaS branch was big enough to pay for a more advanced tool.

As a small business owner, there are a lot of hats to wear. And, while I feel confident wearing most, keeping on top of the numbers has always caused stress. Where as I used to have to manually track sales and cross my fingers that my math was right, Profitwell makes it beyond easy to understand the health of my business. They are missing a great forecasting tool, which would allow you to really dig into the data and project forward with similar metrics. In fairness, they do have an automated goal tracker and predicted column on all metrics. I think a tool that would allow you to forecast on your actual MRR / Churn etc would be super beneficial. The overall idea helps you keep track of the state of things in your SaaS. I signed up for a free plan because ProfitWell seemed to have all the features I'm missing from my payment processor - a nice dashboard that gives you a bird's eye view of your subscriptions and lets you identify issues before they get out of hand. Profitwell is free, first of all, and requires very little setup if you're using one of the supported billing services. It has an intuitive interface with most of the basic requirements for a SaaS business, and will give you lots of insight on the customer and company level right away.

The add-ons are super useful, particularly Retain. Delinquent churn is a big issue for most businesses, and their solution counters it right away.

I wish I could give you a better list of things that I dislike, but given that this system is completely free, I can't really think of things I don't like. LOVE the UI/design. The dashboard is very easy to customize with "tile" reports showing raw number + % change + data visualization. Easily see current MRR, current customers, this month's growth, churn, retention, trials...all in one place. Honestly my only complaint (and this is a very nit-picky design critique) is that when I am on the customers tab and I click into a specific customer, I forget to click the "X" in top right to close the individual customer view and often just swipe to go back a page. However, the UI does not change but the URL does (eg I am still looking at customer John Doe's information but the "page" has gone back 1 or 2 pages) so that when I do close out of the view I am at a completely different page.
